Twitter had a field day after Trump tweeted photoshopped image of the hero military dog in the Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi raid getting the medal of honor

• President Donald Trump on Wednesday tweeted out a photoshopped image of himself handing a medal to the hero US military dog who helped in the raid that killed Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the former leader of the Islamic State terrorist group.
• Trump tweeted out the photo, which featured a watermark for the conservative website The Daily Wire, alongside a caption which read: "AMERICAN HERO!" 
• Users on Twitter began sharing their own photoshopped images inspired by Trump's tweet.
• Trump later shared the photo on Twitter again, thanking The Daily Wire for their "very cute recreation" and tweeting that the real dog, now known to be named Conan, would be leaving the Middle East next week and visiting the White House.

President Donald Trump on Wednesday tweeted out a photoshopped image of himself handing a medal to the US military dog who helped take down Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the former leader of the Islamic State terrorist group.

"AMERICAN HERO!" Trump tweeted out in a caption above the photo, which featured the watermark of The Daily Wire, a conservative site founded by political commentator Ben Shapiro. 

The photo is actually from 2017, in which Trump bestowed a Medal of Honor around retired Army medic James McCloughan's neck during a White House ceremony. McCloughan is credited with saving the lives of 10 men during the war in Vietnam.

Users on Twitter began sharing their own photoshopped images inspired by Trump's tweet.

Trump later posted a follow-up tweet, thanking The Daily Wire for their "very cute recreation." Trump also said the real dog Conan (whose name was previously classified) would be leaving the Middle East for the White House next week. 

Trump last week released a photo of Conan in a Tweet, calling him a "wonderful dog." Trump said Conan "did such a GREAT JOB in capturing and killing the Leader of ISIS, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi."

Trump said al-Baghdadi, who was killed in a raid in Syria last week, was chased down a tunnel by military dogs before he ignited a suicide vest, killing himself and three children. 

Trump added that the dog received minor injuries, but Pentagon officials said the dog returned to service after the raid. 

Despite the dog not actually receiving a medal of honor from Trump on Wednesday, he has been certified as a very good boy by the internet.
