Kanye West celebrated 'election results' showing him ahead of Trump and Biden in Kentucky. The numbers were fake.

Kanye West, the controversial rapper and fashion designer who this summer launched a longshot bid for the presidency, shared fake election results on Twitter that showed him ahead of President Donald Trump and Democratic nominee Joe Biden in Kentucky.

"GET THE WEST WING READY !!!" West wrote in one of several tweets he shared that included the fake results.

He first shared the inaccurate chart at around 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday and later in the evening shared a video of himself celebrating the numbers.

The data, which were posted to the website of Lex18, the Lexington, Kentucky, NBC-affiliated station, showed Jo Jorgensen, the Libertarian Party's nominee in the lead with 36% of the vote in the state. It then showed Brock Pierce, an Independent candidate, in second place with 29% of the vote.

In third place was West with 19%, followed by Biden and Trump, with 14% and 2% of the vote respectively.

In a statement posted to Twitter, Lex18 said that the fake election results were part of a test, and stemmed from a page on its website it used to share election results from the Associated Press during the state primary election in June.

"Someone discovered a cached web link that we used during June's primary election to post Associated Press election results," the news outlet said in a statement Tuesday night. "The old link was still populating current AP data and showed test results, which is part of the preparation the AP does in advance of elections."

Lex18 has since removed the test results from its election results landing page, it said.

Twitter, meanwhile, has labeled West's initial post, as well as subsequent posts that shared the election results, as "Manipulated Media," the moniker it applies to tweets that share content that has been altered from its original state.

As part of his chaotic bid for the White House announced in July, West, a former supporter of Trump, missed the deadline to register to appear as a candidate on a number of state ballots but does appear on the Kentucky ballot as an independent candidate, as the Louisville Courier-Journal noted. Early voting in Kentucky began on Tuesday.
