Rep. Nancy Pelosi of California told CNN in a Sunday interview that she would seek another term as House speaker if Democrats kept their majority in the lower chamber of Congress.

Democrats most recently elected Pelosi to that role in January 2019 after they took back control of the House. Pelosi was sworn in as House speaker eight years after leaving the position. To date, Pelosi is the only woman to serve in the role.

The CNN "State of the Union" host Jake Tapper also asked what she had to say about President Donald Trump's claims at Thursday night's debate that Republicans would take back the House.

"You keep thinking that, Mr. President, you just keep on thinking that," Pelosi said. "That's another example of a delusional statement he made there."

Pelosi also mentioned Democrats' efforts to regain control of the Senate as well after Republicans won a majority in 2014.

Pelosi is also leading Democrats' negotiations with the White House over a coronavirus relief package. Last week, she set and walked back a 48-hour deadline for negotiators to agree on a plan and said she was "optimistic" about its outlook.

But the costs being floated — more than $1.8 trillion — seem too high for Senate Republicans, who must also sign off on any deal. Last week, Trump said he didn't "see any way" negotiators would come to an agreement before Election Day.
