Rupert Murdoch and former model Jerry Hall are no longer married, their lawyers said Wednesday.

The pair announced the news in the wake of a report that Hall had attempted, apparently without success, to call the divorce off.

The divorce was confirmed in a joint statement to Insider by Murdoch's lawyer Robert S. Cohen and Hall's lawyer Judy Poller.

"Jerry Hall and Rupert Murdoch have finalized their divorce. They remain good friends and wish each other the best for the future," said the statement.

The announcement came hours after reports that Hall had filed to a Los Angeles court to cancel the divorce petition she had submitted in June. It's unclear why she would have made that request.

Hall and Murdoch married in a church in London in 2016. Their split was first reported in June, when Hall filed for divorce in a Los Angeles court.

The UK's Daily Mirror newspaper reported that Murdoch was served the divorce papers at a military base, RAF Brize Norton in the UK, after attending his granddaughter's wedding.

The marriage was the fourth for Murdoch, 91, who owns a number of powerful media organisations in the US, UK, and Australia.

The properties include the Fox News network, New York Post, and Wall Street Journal.

Hall, 66, was formerly in a long-term relationship with Mick Jagger, singer of The Rolling Stones, with whom she has four children.

Murdoch has six children across his marriages, and his son, Lachlan Murdoch, is the CEO of Fox Corporation, the parent company of Fox News.
