It only took a few hours for former President Donald Trump to issue a statement on CNN's decision to shudder its newly-launched streaming service, CNN+.

"Congratulations to CNN+ on their decision to immediately FOLD for a lack of ratings, or viewers in any way, shape, or form," Trump said in a written statement.

Trump, a longtime critic of CNN, went on to insult CNN+ host Chris Wallace by invoking his late father, Mike Wallace, one of the original correspondents for CBS's "60 Minutes."

Wallace became a source of Trump's ire after moderating his general election debates in both 2020 and 2016, as well as during the 2016 GOP primary when he was still at Fox News. In his first interview after leaving Fox, Wallace said working at the network became "increasingly unsustainable" in the aftermath of the January 6 insurrection and Trump's repeated election fraud lies.

"It was like an empty desert out there despite spending hundreds of millions of dollars and the hiring of low-rated Chris Wallace, a man who tried so hard to be his father, Mike, but lacked the talent and whatever else is necessary to be a star," Trump said. "In any event, it's just one more piece of CNN and Fake News that we don't have to bother with anymore!"

Insider's Claire Atkinson and Steven Perlberg previously reported that CNN spent up to $250 million on the March 29 launch.
