People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India has a rather unique gift for the soon-to-be-married Prince Harry and Meghan Markle - an Indian bull named Merry. The bull found in a decrepit state has been adopted by the organisation on behalf of the royal couples. The name Merry is a combination of the royal couple’s names - Me (from Meghan) + rry (from Harry).

The weak and injured bull was rescued by PETA and his injuries - a deep wound on his neck - has been treated and is now completely healed. The bovine will be spending the rest of its life in the company of another rescue named Barshya at a sanctuary in Maharashtra, India.

This is Merry.

PETA Founder Ingrid Newkirk believes this would be the “ideal wedding present” for the couple who recently announced that they would not like any wedding gifts. However, those looking to send them a present were requested to instead contribute to a select group of charities including StreetGames, Myna Mahila Foundation, Surfers Against Sewage, Wilderness Foundation UK, Crisis, Children's HIV Association and Scotty's Little Soldiers.

Emaciated bullock trudging along in the heat, often pulling overloaded carts is, unfortunately, a common sight in India. While one less animal suffering may not seem like much of a dent, but perhaps this gesture would nudge people to “spare a thought for and show some love to all our fellow living beings." Plus, PETA believes this would be an ideal gift for Meghan Markle who is a staunch advocate of animal rights. She has publicly expressed her views on dog adoption by showing off her two rescue pups on Instagram and is always promoting #adoptdontshop. She has also vowed never to wear fur and had even convinced her fiancé to ditch his family's annual boxing day hunt last Christmas.
