  • It was rare footage of the president golfing during his time in office.
  • Trump has played a substantial amount of golf as president, but little footage exists from his golf outings.

Professional golfer Taylor Funk posted footage to his YouTube page Tuesday of his round of golf on New Year's Day with President Donald Trump.

It was a rare glimpse of Trump golfing during his presidency, even though he has hit the links far more than his predecessors did during their first years in office. It is rare for photos, let alone video, to surface after a Trump golf outing. During a recent round, CNN obtained footage by having a reporter hide in shrubbery behind one of the greens. Following that episode, a white truck parked in front of the bushes so the angle would no longer be available.

In Funk's video, Trump is seen both hitting drives and putting. The round took place at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, and the two were joined by Funk's father, fellow professional golfer Fred Funk.

Trump has spent more than 90 days at one of his branded golf clubs since he first took office last year - roughly one-quarter of his first year in the presidency.

The president had blasted former President Barack Obama while he was in office for playing what Trump considered to be too much golf.

"Can you believe that, with all of the problems and difficulties facing the U.S., President Obama spent the day playing golf," Trump tweeted in 2014. "Worse than Carter."

An April poll found that while Trump had played more golf than Obama during the same span, Trump voters still thought Obama made more trips to the golf course.

Speaking with CNN on Tuesday, Funk said Trump was "a good player" who is "a lot of fun to play with."

"Just very engaging, and really I don't have a bad thing to say about our round," he said. "It was amazing."
