Jeff Bezos took a tour of Buckingham Palace and dined out with the actor Tom Cruise on a visit to London this week, The Sun newspaper reported.

The world's second-richest man toured the Queen's London palace with 30 friends and family at $109 per ticket, according to the report.

An unnamed source told The Sun that the private tour of the State Rooms was "jokingly being nicknamed a 'shopping trip' by Palace staff. He showed a particular interest in the Throne Room and Ballroom."

Bezos's tour of the Platinum Jubilee: The Queen's Accession exhibition reportedly overlapped with the public. The source said the billionaire "was moved room to room discreetly to hide his visit from the day's last remaining visitors."

Bezos later went for dinner at the The Twenty Two hotel in Mayfair with his partner Lauren Sanchez and the Top Gun and Mission Impossible star Tom Cruise, according to the report.

The restaurant's menu included a roasted turbot fillet for $55 and grilled lobster that cost up to $60 per plate.

The 31-room boutique hotel on Grosvenor Square opened in April. It also has a members' club for the "creative and curious" and aims to be "very accessible for a younger generation", hotelier Navid Mirtorabi told The Financial Times.

Bezos and Sanchez also had dinner this week at The Wolseley restaurant on Piccadilly in central London, the Daily Mail reported. It is described as an "all-day cafe-restaurant in the Grand European style" and occupies the site of a former car showroom.

The Amazon founder is worth $145 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, making him the world's second richest person.

Bezos first overtook Bill Gates as the world's richest person in 2017 but was later knocked off the top spot by the Tesla chief executive, Elon Musk.
