​Rise in US H-1B visa rejection may force Indian tech companies to look at M&A

The H-1B visa rejections rates for petitions is nearing 40% and Indian IT companies are switching up their business models in order to continue providing service to their clients in the US.

If the visa rejection rate continues to rise, India IT firms are going to start acquiring more companies in the US in order to meet the demand for onsite engineers.

Why you should care:

Mohandas Pai, the former director of Infosys, told Business Insider India that India has a competitive advantage when it comes to software engineers. So even if visas are being rejected, IT firms will either build more centers near shore or start acquiring local firms. But the need for Indian talent to bridge the sales gap will still be there.

Local firms may help companies be in the same time zone as their clients, but the back-end operations will still be managed by software engineers in India.
