Samsung Galaxy A50 and Samsung Galaxy A30 prices revealed ahead of launch in India

The hype from Samsung’s announcement of their 5G-ready smartphones at the Unpacked 2019 is still trending. Now the company’s gone a step further to unveil the Samsung Galaxy A50 and A30 at the Mobile World Congress 2019.

It announced that the devices aren’t meant for the United States market but focused on the Indian market instead with their launch scheduled for February 28.

The Samsung Galaxy A50 will cost ₹19,990 for the 4GB RAM and 64GB storage model while the 64GB storage device is priced at ₹22,990.

The Samsung Galaxy A30 will be slightly cheaper with prices starting at ₹16,990.

Similarities

Both, the Samsung Galaxy A50 and A30 come with a ‘3D Glasstic’ design which allows the outer body of the device to change colors while retaining a glass finish. They also come with a modest 4,000mAh battery and the ordinary notch has been downsized using a infinity-U screen on a 6.4-inch AMOLED display.

And, that’s about the extent of their similarities.

Differences

The Samsung Galaxy A50 is more premium of the two sporting the more powerful Exynos 9610 chipset while the Samsung Galaxy A30 is powered by the Exynos 7885 chipset. The former also has triple rear camera setup (25MP primary sensor, 5MP depth sensor and a 8MP ultra-wide sensor) while its counterpart only has two cameras in the back (16MP primary sensor and a 5MP depth sensor).

While both phones feature fingerprint scanners as a security feature, the Samsung Galaxy A30 has a normal fingerprint sensor located on the back of the devices. The Samsung Galaxy A50, on the other hand, has Samsung’s new in-display ultrasonic fingerprint sensor.

The phones are supposed to have a third counterpart as well, the Galaxy A10, but it was announced alongside the other two devices. Although the Samsung Netherlands has noted that the Samsung Galaxy A50 will cost 349 Euros (₹28,100), the prices of both phones will only be revealed at their launch in India even.

If the two new mid-range devices are appreciated in the Indian market the it could help Samsung regain some of the market share that its lost to Chinese smartphone makers like Xiaomi in India.

Despite launching more mid-range devices in the recent past, the South Korean company has been struggling to crack the entry-level and budget-level segments of the market with Xiaomi offerings of cheaper phones with competitive features while also losing out to OnePlus in the premium smartphone segment.

By 2025, India is poised to be the second largest smartphone market in the world with nearly 1,171 million smartphone users. The ‘Mobile Economy 2019’ report launched at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019 predicts that this will give rise to three new smartphone super-powers in the India — but will Samsung make the cut?
