Samsung may break its silence on what's going on with Galaxy Fold's launch in 'a couple of days'

Samsung will make a decision regarding its launch plans for the Galaxy Fold in "a couple of days," the company's president and co-CEO DJ Koh said to The Korea Herald.

Koh told the publication that Samsung has reviewed the defect that had impacted some review devices and will "reach a conclusion in a couple of days" in terms of the phone's launch. When asked if the phone will be released this month, Koh said: "We will not be too late."

The company has completed its investigation of the defective Galaxy Fold units and is currently in the process of making the exposed areas around the device's hinge more durable to prevent similar problems, the report says. It is also reportedly making the space between the screen's protective layer and its bezel smaller to prevent debris from penetrating the device.

Samsung announced the Galaxy Fold on February 20 and initially planned to release it in the US on April 26. But it delayed the phone's launch after a small number of reviewers had reported that the screen on their devices had broken after just two days of use.

Two of the reviewers had removed a protective layer from the top of the Fold's screen, which is believed to be the cause behind the problems. But other tech critics that left this film intact also experienced issues, which included a flickering display and a bulge that formed underneath the screen's crease. Business Insider did not experience such issues with its own review unit.

Samsung said on April 22 that it would not release the Galaxy Fold on April 26 as planned, adding that it will announce a new release date in the coming weeks. The company has not yet provided an update on when the device will be released or the results of its investigation.

A Business Insider reader who pre-ordered the Galaxy Fold through AT&T said the order status indicates the phone will ship sometime in June, lining up with previous reports. However, nothing can be considered final until Samsung makes an announcement.
