Samsung on Thursday announced its Exynos 9810 processor, which will likely be included in the still-rumored Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ smartphones. Samsung will likely have more details about the chip at the International Consumer Electronics Show next week.
The chip will power several functions on future Samsung smartphones, but it will also assist in some standout features that may be comparable to those on Apple's new iPhone X. Samsung detailed in a press release that the Exynos 9810 chip allows for technology that can "scan a user's face in 3D for hybrid face detection." This is similar to what Apple uses for its Face ID and Animoji features.
According to Samsung, the Exynos 9810 chip will include functions dedicated to housing security details on a smartphone, including facial, iris and fingerprint information. The chip will also enable faster LTE speeds and higher resolution for broadcasting and streaming multimedia.
Samsung is currently producing the Exynos 9810 chip for use on upcoming devices. The Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ may be announced in late-February.
