Orange alerts issued by the weather department

The Indian Meteorological Department issued an orange for Kerala, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh - three states which are likely to experience extreme rainfall. Several states like Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, and Goa too are on a high alert for heavy rainfall in the coming days.

What is an orange alert?

The IMD uses the four primary warnings - yellow (to stay alert and updated), orange (to adapt and be prepared), green (no action needed), and red (immediate action required).

NRDF teams deployed to Maharashtra

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed two teams in Maharashtra’s Konkan region due to the orange alert issued by the IMD for the next five days.

Dates to watch out for

The orange alert, which predicts heavy to very heavy rains in isolated regions from June 4 to June 8, has been issued for Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg districts in Maharashtra.

High alerts for orange-coded Kerala

Orange alerts have been sent in nine out of the 14 districts for Kerala for Tuesday. The IMD has warned the state of occasional gusts of extreme winds alongside its coastline.

IMD warns of heavy rainfall

On July 5, the relative humidity stood at 80 percent at 8:30 in the morning in Delhi. IMD has issued a yellow alert till Tuesday and an orange alert for Wednesday, warning the region of thunderstorms, and heavy rain showers. An orange alert was only issued once a yellow alert is updated.
