Adios single use plastic

It’s time to bid adieu to anything plastic that can be used only once - carry bags, disposable cups, disposable eat out containers, and the list goes on. All the single use plastic ends up in landfills and in oceans.

Carry water

Just like any other disposable item, plastic water bottles are a major environmental hazard. More than 1 million bottles of water are sold every minute around the world as per a study and a simple move of carrying one’s own water from home will solve a major hassle.

Conserve water

A United Nations report in March 2023 has warned against water scarcity giving rise to further geopolitical conflicts. It has warned that conserving water in every way possible is the need of the hour. A simple step like reusing the water-filter discard for household chores can go a long way.

Segregate waste

Taking time out to segregate and dispose of waste will help the recycling industry and thus the environment. Wet waste (biodegradable) and dry waste should be segregated. Special care to dispose of sanitary and e-waste should also be taken. Electronic waste can be recycled and thus should be deposited at such centers operated by top global manufacturers.

Save paper

We know that trees need to be cut down to print paper. Save paper by printing when absolutely necessary. Avoid subscribing to paper brochures and bills and ask for such information to be e-mailed instead.

Reuse, and recycle

We can all learn a thing or two from our previous generation. Use your own bag to buy vegetables and groceries. Re-use take-out food containers, and use jars to store. Reuse and recycle as much and adopt such materials consciously in your daily life.

Take public Transport

You do not need to stop riding your car or driving your car altogether. However, take public transport when possible, especially for daily commutes. It is good for the environment and some walk will do your health no no harm.

Say no to environment destructors

Avoid products that harm the environment like wet wipes, single use razors are so on. When it comes to clothes, synthetic fibers like polyester, rayon, and nylon harm the environment.

Plant trees

Deforestation is one of the biggest causes of climate change. Make an effort to plant trees. You can partner with an NGO, and participate in tree planting drives in your locality.

Speak out

Go beyond making a positive change yourself. Speak out and inform your friends, neighbours, colleagues, and others around you about how important it is to take care of mother nature and why it is high time we did.
