Visiting cards that can 'grow into a plant' made by a Kanpur firm catches a civil servant's fancy

We have often come across people throwing away paper business cards on roads — which just adds more to waste. What if we said, there’s a way you can use business and when you decide to throw it away it can become a plant.

IFS Parveen Kaswan — an Indian Forest Officer with 206,000 followers on Twitter — posted a picture of his unique business card made of seed paper. Anybody who will visit his office will get that parting gift which can be later grown into a bright basil plant.

Seed paper is a biodegradable paper created out of a mix of paper-pulp and organic seeds.


Soon Kaswan’s Twitter post went viral with people asking for more details. Moreover, several experts lauded the idea and suggested people to use such products. Some users thought it would make for a great birthday and wedding cards — which are often disposed of.

The business card shared by Kaswan was made by Kanpur-based Wild Lense.

“Yes. The card is made of cotton paper. seeds are pressed in it. it can be called as seed paper also,” Kaswan further said while replying to users asking for more details.




Wild Lense India recently said they are introducing plantable pens, pencils, business cards and wedding invitations. These products can be grown into a variety of different plants including marigold, brinjal, chilli, coriander, tomato, daisy white among others.

Wild Lense India is using seed paper to make some of these products. Seed paper is a special eco-friendly paper which is made of paper pulp and also has wildflower, herb or vegetable seeds in it. The seeds in these hand made paper can still grow after the papermaking process. It can be used to make stationery, cards, invitations, and decorative wraps.
