Pandemic not over

2022 led to multiple Covid-19 restrictions being eased across the globe, making people hopeful about the pandemic finally ending. But a recent spike in cases across the globe indicate that the pandemic is far from over.

China

Covid cases in China saw a surge after it eased its Zero Covid policy, according to media reports. The country recorded 9,17,308 cases and 646 fatalities in the last 28 days, according to the Johns Hopkins Covid-19 tracker. It’s a live tracker.

Japan

Japan has recorded the highest number of fresh Covid cases in the last 28 days, as per the John Hopkins Covid-19 tracker. Over 34 lakh cases have been reported as of December 21.

South Korea

The country logged over 16 lakh cases and 1,385 deaths in the last 28 days, according to the tracker.

United States of America

The US also reported over 15,89,284 cases in the last 28 days. The total number of Covid-19 cases registered in the US since 2020 surpassed the 100 million mark on December 21, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.

France

The country recorded 15,26,427 cases in the last 28 days, taking the overall tally to 3,91,74,528.

Brazil

Brazil is one of the top five countries where cases are exploding once again. It reported over 9,45,568 cases and 3,125 deaths in the last 28 days.

Cases in India lower in comparison

According to the tracker, India logged 6,482 cases and 86 deaths in the last 28 days. On December 21, the country logged 131 fresh Covid-19 cases, as per data by by health ministry.

Response by Indian Ministry

Covid cases in India are comparatively lower than the world. But, in view of the rising Covid cases globally, the Union Health Ministry of India has asked the states and UTs to send the sample of positive cases to INSACOG labs to track new variants.
