Solar and lunar eclipses are curious celestial events that have profound astrological significance. Sky gazers await eclipses with a lot of anticipation and eagerness as we can expect some unusual sights of sun and moon during their respective eclipses.

Astronomically speaking, any lunar eclipse can happen only on a full moon day and any solar eclipse can happen only on a no-moon day. Each eclipse is unique in its own way in terms of visibility in different regions, duration, and type and pattern of eclipse. Therefore, eclipses are a topic of immense interest.

Eclipses in 2022



A few lunar and solar eclipses can happen in any typical year. However, the 2022 calendar is marked with four eclipses in total – two solar and two lunar.

The first solar eclipse occurred on 30 April 2022, which was a partial one. The second and the last solar eclipse of 2022, which will also be a partial one, will happen on Tuesday, 25 October 2022.

The first lunar eclipse was observed on 15-16 May 2022 and it was a total eclipse of the moon. The second and the last lunar eclipse of 2022, which will again be a total one, will be seen on 7 -8 November 2022.

Where we can see 2022 last solar eclipse in India



The solar eclipse that will happen on Tuesday, 25 October 2022 will be a partial eclipse of the sun. In India, this eclipse will start just before the sunset and will be visible in most places. Though the timings of the upcoming solar eclipse will differ across different regions of the country, the ending of the solar eclipse will not be seen from anywhere in India as it will happen only after the sunset.

In the north-western part of India, the eclipse of the sun by moon will last for about 40-50 percent during the maximum phase of the eclipse. In other parts of the country, the percentage of eclipse will be much less than these values.

In Delhi, the national capital of India, solar eclipse on 25 October 2022 will start at 4:29 pm (IST). The maximum eclipse of the sun during the peak of the eclipse will be 44 percent. The duration of the eclipse that can be seen from Delhi from the start of the eclipse to sunset time will be 1 hour 13 minutes.

In Mumbai, the commercial capital of India, this eclipse will begin at 4:49 pm (IST). The maximum eclipse of the sun during the peak of this solar eclipse will be around 24 percent only. The duration of the eclipse that can be seen from Mumbai from the start of the eclipse to sunset time will be 1 hour 19 minutes.

In Kolkata, the October 25 partial solar eclipse will begin at 4:52 pm (IST). From the start of the eclipse till sunset, the eclipse will be visible only for 31 minutes from Kolkata.

In Chennai, the second and the last solar eclipse of 2022 will start at 05:14 pm and will last for only 12 minutes till sunset.
