From Facebook to Uber, every other company making major inroads into the Indian digital market has seen a new person take charge. These hires have mostly been from within the Indian industry, bringing on board expertise to scale the companies.

Aditya Ghosh went from being the president of Indigo Airlines to the CEO of South Asia operations of the fast-expanding Oyo Rooms. Ghosh led the airlines for a decade and then quit in 2018, after a few tense months. Under his leadership, Indigo airlines reported a 56% rise in profits in January, 2018. At Oyo, Ghosh is now leading the international expansion of the hospitality startup and aims to make it the world’s biggest hotel chain.

The former head of the Star-run OTT platform Hotstar, Ajit Mohan is now leading Facebook India. The appointment, done in September 2018, made news as the position had been lying vacant for a year. Facebook India has been ramping up its operations as the country is a big market for the company with over 300 million users.

Abhijit Bose, founder and former CEO of Ezetap, took a major position into his hands by landing the role of WhatsApp India head. WhatsApp’s Gurgaon space is the company’s first office out of its California-headquarters and Bose has many difficult tasks in his hands – to fight the growing fake news and also launch WhatsApp pay, which has been multiple hurdles since its beta launch in 2017.

Ananth Narayanan: Starring in Hotstar Soon?

Flipkart has seen a major shuffle in its top management with both the founders – Sachin Bansal and Binny Bansal – quitting the company and Kalyan Krishnamurthy reigning supreme. Soon after that, rumours did the rounds about Ananth Narayanan, Myntra and Jabong CEO, wanting to resign because of his misalignment with Krishnamurthy. While Narayanan has gone on to officially resign from the post, rumours are now rife about him taking over Ajit Mohan as the Hotstar India head.
