​Vedaant Madhavan, the starkid who’s a national-level swimmer - know everything about him

Khelo India Youth Games

The Indian government annually conducts the national-level Khelo India games in January or February in two categories- under-17 school students and under-21 college students. The selected children are given a ₹5 lakh annual scholarship for eight years to train for international sports events.

Vedaant Madhavan bags 7 medals

Son of Indian actor R Madhavan, Vedaant Madhavan won seven medals - 5 gold and two silver in swimming at Khelo India Youth Games 2023. Vedaant won gold medals in 100m, 200m, and 1500m and silver in 400m and 800m. Earlier, in Khelo India Youth Games 2020, he won a bronze medal in 1500m freestyle.

After Madhavan took to Twitter to share his son’s achievements, celebrities like actors Kangana Ranaut, Riteish Deshmukh, Sonu Sood, Abhishek Bachchan, and others, congratulated the young star.

A swimmer, not an actor

17-year-old Vedaant Madhavan is a swimmer who has competed in both national and international events. Unlike his father R Madhavan, Vedaant has shown no inclination to pursue acting but rather focused his attention on swimming. His Instagram profile also showcases his swimming journey.

Swimming to success

Vedaant initially trained professionally at the Goregaon Sports Club in Mumbai. In 2017, he trained with Glenmark Aquatic Foundation, a CSR (corporate social responsibility) initiative of Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Ltd. which promotes competitive swimming in India.

Training in Dubai

In 2021, Vedaant also trained at the Aqua Nation Sports Academy in Dubai for six months, in order to prepare for the Danish Open Swimming Championship in 2022. He bagged a silver and a gold at the Danish open.

Scripting history at the National Aquatics Championship

In 2022, he took part in the 48th Junior National Aquatics Championship and scripted history - he broke the national junior record for 1500m freestyle swimming by completing the lap in 16:01.73 seconds.

Making a splash internationally

A bronze medal for 1500m freestyle at the Thailand Age Group Championship 2018 was Vedaant’s first international win. Since then, he’s added several international medals to his kitty - a silver at the Asian Age Group Swimming Championship in 2019, a bronze at the 2021 Latvian Open swimming championship, and a gold at the 2022 Danish Open, among others.
