By: Sourabh JainThe match between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Hyderabad, shattered several IPL and T20 all-time records, including those created over a decade ago.

SRH beat Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) decade-old record of the highest team total by scoring 277 runs in the first innings. RCB had scored 263 runs against Pune Warriors India (PWI) in 2013.

MI also created a record by scoring the highest second innings score in IPL history, scoring 246 runs. The earlier record was held by Rajasthan Royals (RR), scoring 226 runs in 2020.

The two teams recorded an aggregate score of 523 runs in total, beating the 469 runs scored by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and RR in 2010.

It’s not just IPL, the aggregate score of 523 runs is also the highest in T20 history. Before this, the highest aggregate score recorded was 517 between South Africa and West Indies in 2023.

The match saw several quick fifties being scored, including a 16-ball fifty by Abhishek Sharma, an 18-ball fifty by Travis Head, a 23-ball fifty by Heinrich Klassen and a 24-ball fifty by Tilak Verma. The record for the fastest fifty for SRH was first taken by Travis Head, which was later beaten in the same innings by Abhishek Sharma.

The match between SRH and MI also recorded the highest sixes hit in an IPL match with both the teams hitting a total of 38 sixes. The earlier record was held by RCB and CSK, both of whom had together hit 33 sixes in 2018.

In addition to IPL, the number of sixes hit by the two teams also marked the most sixes in any T20 match, beating the record held by Balkh Legends and Kabul Zwanan who recorded 37 sixes in the Afghanistan Premier League in 2018.

SRH and MI have also equaled the 2010 record of CSK and RR for scoring the most boundaries in a match, which is 69.
