Earth Day 2022: Most sustainable Indian private companies, ranked

The ranking is based on the 2021 Capri Global Capital Hurun India Impact 50 list.

It is given on the basis of the company’s alignment with the United Nation’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Score: 42 | The Indian conglomerate has been largely contributing to SDG 12 — responsible consumption and production.

Score: 42 | The Mumbai-based multinational consumer goods company has also made a substantial contribution towards responsible consumption and production.

Infosys (Rank 9)

Score: 43 | The information technology (IT) major, which employs more than 2.5 lakh people, has demonstrated excellence in promoting gender equality.

Tata Steel (Rank 8)

Score: 43 | India’s steelmaking company is working extensively for the availability of clean water and sanitisation.

Hindalco Industries (Rank 7)

Score: 43 | Indian aluminium and copper manufacturing company, which is a subsidiary of the Aditya Birla Group, has made a significant contribution towards affordable and clean energy.

Ambuja Cement (Rank 5)

Score: 44 | The cement producing company has made an ample contribution towards sustainable cities and communities, and the availability of clean water and sanitisation.

Hindustan Unilever (Rank 5)

Score: 44 | The subsidiary company of Unilever, which has a headcount of around 21,000 employees, extensively promotes and works towards responsible consumption and production.

Score: 45 | The IT major is renowned for its substantial contribution towards gender equality and affordable and clean energy.

Tata Power (Rank 3)

Score: 45 | The Indian electric utility company, which is a part of the Tata Group, has worked extensively for the availability of clean water and sanitisation, affordable and clean energy, and quality education.

Tech Mahindra (Rank 2)

Score: 46 | |The IT major of Mahindra Group, ranked at the second position, made a substantial contribution towards innovation and infrastructure last year.

Grasim Industries (Rank 1)

Score: 47 | The Mumbai-based manufacturing hub is the most sustainable company in India, according to the 2021 Capri Global Capital Hurun India Impact 50 list. Last year also, the company contributed towards all 17 sustainable development goals out of which four goals have measurable time-bound targets.
