In 2007, the Vanderbilt University Medical Center leased over half of 100 Oaks Mall's 800-square-feet. (The other half is still retail space today.) The former entrance was turned into the medical center's lobby, which leads into administrative offices and clinical rooms that took the place of shops.

Also in Tennessee, the Tri-County Mall in Oliver Springs once housed a 30-lane bowling alley with several shops and a Heck's department store. In 2009, it was converted into the Beech Park Baptist Church, which now seats 800 people. The former department store turned into classroom space for the church as well.

The Rainbow Centre Factory Outlet was an enclosed mall that opened in downtown Niagara Falls, New York in 1982. It didn't turn a profit until 1990, when Burlington Coat Factory and other outlets replaced its anchor tenant (Beir's Department Store) and several smaller shops. After Burlington closed in 1999, the entire mall went under, too.
