The wait is finally over – Clubhouse for Android is now available in India. This comes over a week after the app was launched in the US. The app is still in beta, so it may be a little rough around the edges.

“With Android, we believe that Clubhouse will feel more complete. We are so grateful to all of the Android users out there for their patience,” the company said in its blog post.

Clubhouse is a social audio platform that was launched as an iPhone-only app in 2020. It went viral after several celebrities across politics, technology, and others took to the platform.

Over a year later, the Android version is finally here, but this happened only after downloads fell by 90% according to Sensor Tower data.

After falling to 2.7 million downloads in March, the app witnessed another major fall in April, registering only 9,22,000 installs.

One of the reasons for Clubhouse’ initial popularity was its ability to attract celebrities from different spheres of life.

The app saw participation from people like American talk show host Oprah Winfery, Tesla’s Elon Musk, Shark Tank’s Kevin O’Leary, actor Aston Kutcher, entertainer Kevin Hart, rapper Drake among others.

Clubhouse has to fend off Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn among others

Clubhouse’ viral popularity pushed other companies to launch similar social audio features in their apps. For instance, Twitter Spaces is already available for everyone, while Facebook’s Live Audio Rooms will be available later this year.

LinkedIn has also jumped into the race with its own take on social audio.

Instagram, the Facebook-owned photo sharing app, has tweaked its live broadcasting feature to make it more Clubhouse-like.

Collaboration tool Slack, music streaming service Spotify and billionaire investor Mark Cuban’s Fireside Chat are also some other notable Clubhouse competitors.
