​From translating chats to media permissions and more, Telegram announced new features

Telegram released new features to enhance user experience in its first update of the year.

Along with the features, Telegram also announced an annual Premium subscription that lets you save up to 40 percent on your Telegram Premium subscription by pre-paying for a year.

Chat translation

Users can select their preferred language and translate their chats, groups, and channels in real time. However, this feature is currently available for premium users only.

Profile picture maker

This feature allows users to make stickers or animated emojis turn into profile pictures. Users can also set or suggest edited pictures for their contacts.

Users can use their Apple or Google ID to login into their account without entering an SMS code. However, if you have enabled 2-step verification, you'll have to enter the SMS code to log in.

Network usage

This feature helps track how much data is consumed by Telegram. Users can view the Wi-Fi and mobile data consumption through detailed pie charts and adjust auto-download settings.

Auto-save media

This feature lets you control media saved to your gallery based on size, type, and which chat it was received from. This feature also allows you to add an exception for contacts or groups to help you save only what you want.

Chat selection for bots

The feature allows bot developers to add special buttons which help users select groups, channels, or people. To use this feature, the requirements are- the group should be public, the group should have topics turned off, the group should have persistent history turned on, and most importantly, you should be the group’s admin.

Granular media permissions

This feature gives admins the ability to decide whether the group members can send all types of media like photos, voice notes, videos and others or not. Admins can also restrict text messages to create media-only groups.

Emoji categories

Telegram has curated and sorted different emojis and stickers by categories.

Interactive emoji

Telegram has added interactive emojis that can be sent on 1-1 chats. The full-screen effect makes the emojis more interactive.
