Apple is gearing up to launch four new Macs in 2022, powered by the company’s own M2 chip. This includes a MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, Mac Mini and an iMac, too.

However, iMac fans might have to temper their expectations. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple might not launch a low-end large iMac this year, instead choosing to focus on the more expensive iMac Pro.

Apple debuted the M1 chip designed in-house in November 2020, and while it did announce the M1 Pro and M1 Max chips specifically designed for the Mac lineup, it’s been a while now. While we don’t know the specifics of the M2 chip just yet, Gurman thinks that it could feature the same eight-core architecture as the M1, with slightly higher clock speeds.

This suggests that the M2 chip could be an iterative update instead of a major one. Apple could also announce ‘Pro’ and ‘Max’ versions of the M2 chip, just like it did for the M1.

Apple is expected to announce a 13-inch MacBook Pro and a redesigned MacBook Air in the coming months, powered by the upcoming M2 chip.

Apart from this, the iPhone-maker could also launch a new Mac Mini and a 24-inch iMac powered by the same chip.

Apart from this, there could be more upgrades in store. For instance, while the Mac Mini is already powered by an M1 chip, Gurman says that there could be an upgraded M1 Pro option apart from an M2 version.

However, for iMac fans waiting for a larger option, there could be some bad news. Apple is expected to use the larger display size as another differentiator between the standard iMac and iMac Pro. This means that a 27-inch iMac might be off the table, at least for now.

Apple could also launch a 27-inch iMac Pro with the M1 Pro and M1 Max chips.
