You could update your bosses even faster on what you're working on with a new ChatGPT tool announced for the Slack workplace messaging app.

The ChatGPT for Slack tool, still in Beta testing mode that users can join a waitlist to access, can help users quickly absorb long conversations, and write messages "in seconds," according to a statement on Tuesday by Salesforce, the cloud software company that has owned Slack since 2021.

The tool would help users write faster, review outlines of longer Slack chats, and mine channels for information, according to the company.

"The ChatGPT app for Slack deeply integrates the power of OpenAI's cutting edge large language models into Slack's conversational interface," Slack's chief product officer Noah Desai Weiss said in the statement. "This will give customers new superpowers by helping them tap the collective knowledge of their organization's channel archives."

Salesforce also said its AI tool called "Einstein GPT" will help clients use AI-generated content for customer service and marketing purposes.

"This comes at a pivotal moment as every company is focused on connecting with their customers in more intelligent, automated, and personalized ways," Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff said in the company's statement Tuesday.

The success of ChatGPT, which OpenAI launched to public users late last year, has sent tech companies scrambling to integrate AI-driven interactive features into their own products.

Microsoft reintroduced its Bing search engine with a new chatbot powered by OpenAI's technology, part of the Big Tech giant's "multi-billion dollar investment" in the generative AI darling.

The new prevalence of generative AI tools like chatbots and image generators that the general public can use — OpenAI also put out the hit AI art tool Dall-E — has led some tech experts to voice concerns about the experimental nature of the endeavor.

Salesforce sought to address some of the privacy concerns around the integration with Slack of a large language model tool, which can learn from data it is fed. The company said that Slack users will have "granular controls" over access to data, and that ChatGPT's model won't learn from Slack data.

OpenAI itself uses Slack in its workplace, it said.

"Injecting our own technology into this product has supercharged our ability to connect with and delight our customers," OpenAI executive Zack Kass said in a statement.

Salesforce's announcement also follows reporting by Insider's Ashley Stewart that the company is planning to improve on products it has acquired in recent years, including Slack.
