There’s no shortage of promising tech to see at CES 2023. Some products will hit the market this year, gadgets a few years away, and crazy concepts that may become a reality soon. Also, there are new gaming laptops, wireless TVs, self-driving bikes, and even flying cars. All in all, it is a good mix of hype and innovative tech products.
Beyond this, we also have the big news that Sony is bringing its car, scheduled to hit the roads in 2026. We have also seen what companies like Asus, LG, Intel, and Samsung have in plans for 2023, 8K projectors, foldable and rollable flex displays, and glass-free 3D OLED laptops.
While folding display tech has been in the market for a while now, this year, we have seen advancements like less prominent creases, reduced reflection, better resolution, and increased sturdiness.
Below, we look into display technologies and other products revealed by tech giants at CES 2023.
At CES 2023, Asus announced the world’s first glass-free 3D OLED displays as a part of its new range of laptops. This glasses-free 3D technology will be available on various laptops aimed at creatives. Asus uses
Asus also claims that users can easily switch between 2D and 3D images. The Spatial Vision hub provides support for simulated reality applications using gesture control.
The OLED displays feature a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio, 0.2 ms response time, and 120Hz of maximum refresh rate. The display also comes loaded with Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 40 series GPUs.
Acer has been experimenting with glass-free 3D laptops over the past few years, but the brand has not demonstrated such technology.
Samsung showcased Flex Hybrid OLED mobile screen that can both fold from one side and slide out on the other, changing the size and aspect ratio.
The display can have a compact size of 4.2- inches and can be unfolded to access 10.5 inches. Further, you can slide out the right side of the display to create a 12.4- inch display with a 16:10 aspect ratio suited for content creation and entertainment purposes.
TCL unveiled a folding and rollable screen in 2021, but the company didn’t show a prototype at CES 2023.
Samsung might not be the first company to showcase a projector that can display 8K resolution imagery, it claims that its new Premiere 8K is the first kind of projector that display images at a size of 150 diagonal inches. Until now, 8K projectors have been limited to image sizes of 120 diagonal inches. Samsung also says Premiere 8K projector will be specifically used as a gaming hub, health monitor, art store, and more.
The company did not provide pricing or announce when the projector would be available.
At CES 2023, Hisense showcased its products in two categories, Laser cinema, and Laser TV. The difference between these two is that the Laser TV models are ultra-short throw projectors that come with an in-built ambient light-rejecting screen and are specifically designed to project images on regular TV.
On the other hand, Laser cinema models are designed to have an adjustable image size and can project images onto any available surface.
Lenovo has revealed its Yoga book, 9i, features two screens and multiple configuration options- stacked side-by-side or vertically. One screen can be turned into its haptic keyboard or touchpad as per user preference.
This shapeshifting laptop from Lenovo also comes with an origami-style stand and active pen to take advantage of dual displays.
Samsung is showcasing rollable and foldable display concepts, including a 17-inch large-screen slideable display. The display is very portable at only 13-14 inches but can be expanded to 17.3 inches for multitasking purposes, playing games, or watching movies. Samsung also showcased a bunch of concept displays, such as Flex Note which can unfold into a huge screen. The display includes a dedicated screen for the keyboard. Samsung can use Flex Note display technology in coming laptops.
Besides this, the company also displayed a Flex display, which is very similar to the Galaxy Z fold. The Flex display can fold back, which means the screen is on the other side. This display technology could be used in future Fold smartphones and maybe tablets.
LG has unveiled its latest OLED panels for TVs and monitors at CES 2023. These are 3rd Gen OLED panels by LG with a maximum brightness of 2100 nits, which means 60% higher than previous OLED panels.
These OLED panels have improved viewing angle by 30% and improved power efficiency by 22%. The company said they had used an ultra-small lens to achieve the maximum brightness of 2100 nits.
