Google I/O 2022: Team Android teases messaging, cross-device updates, and more ahead of the event

Google’s developer conference, Google I/O is set to kick off on May 11. Meanwhile, team Android has used its Twitter handle to share a poll asking its users about which update are they most excited to hear about.

In a Twitter poll from Android’s handle, Google asked which update are you most excited to see on May 11–12 with four options-

1. Security Updates
2. Messaging Updates
3. Cross-Device Updates
4. New Partnerships

Going by the number of votes given at the time of writing, we can assume Android users are most excited about Google I/O 2022, leading to 36.3% of the vote for cross-device updates followed by messaging updates with 27.9%. Security updates stood third with 24.7% and new partnerships last with 11%.

With the cross-device updates, Android users can unlock Chromebook, tablets, and Android phones with Wear OS. We can expect that this I/O will be Google’s opportunity to provide additional details on integrations.

The Material design team also tweeted similarly asking, Material Design is coming to GoogleIO, what are you excited about? Giving four options:

1. Variable type fonts
2. Design and accessibility
3. Chatting with our team
4. All of the above

While 45.6% of users wanted all of the features, design and accessibility were second with 33%. Variable Type fonts got 17.4% votes and chatting with our team got 4.3%.

What to expect from Google I/O 2022?
The Google I/O is pitched at helping developers get the most out of Google’s platforms and tools. The software announcements are likely to focus on operating systems like Android 13. The new announcement can also feature new updates on Wear OS and Android TV.

Rumours about Google’s smartwatch have been around for a while and it could finally happen this year. We can also expect Pixel 6A and some pro wireless earbuds.
