Google’s Year in Search 2021

Google today revealed the top search trends of 2021 in India. It includes what people Google searched the most and in different categories like news, sports, and entertainment.

Top search query

Indian Premier League was the top search query in India this year. ICC T20 World Cup, Euro Cup and Tokyo Olympics were also among the top five.

The top 'near me' searches

The top ‘near me’ query on Google Search was “Covid vaccine near me” followed by “Covid test near me” and “Food delivery near me”.

How to is a popular search query on Google, and what people wanted to learn the most was “How to register for covid vaccine” in India.

Curiosity

In addition to learning how tos, Indians also searched for what black fungus is, what the factorial of hundred is, what the Taliban is and what’s happening in Afghanistan.

Personalities

Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra was the most searched personality followed by Aryan Khan, Shenaaz Gill and Raj Kundra.

Movies

Although released in November, Jai Bhim became the most Google searched movie in India this year. Other popular movies were Shershaah, Radhe, Bell Bottom and Eternals.

The most searched news event was the Tokyo Olympics, followed by black fungus, Afghanistan, West Bengal elections and tropical cyclone Tauktae.

Recipes are also a popular search query everywhere and Indians were most curious about enoki mushrooms, Modak, methi matar malai, palak and the age-old chicken soup.
