SpaceX's Starlink will expand internet service to moving RVs, trucks, and cars for $135/month

RVers and long-haul truckers, rejoice. Elon Musk's SpaceX is bringing its satellite-internet service to moving vehicles, the firm announced on Tuesday.

The rocket company launched Starlink for RVs in May, but the service only allowed customers to get internet while parked. The benefit to users was that they could move locations as frequently as they pleased, rather than permanently set up service in one spot.

Starting in December, Starlink for RVs will be able to provide internet service to moving vehicles, too. The new offering still costs $135 per month but requires an upgraded, $2,500 satellite dish rather than the standard $599 unit. Customers can pause and restart their service at any time.

On Tuesday, Musk tweeted that the service "works on any moving land object."

Starlink uses a constellation of thousands of satellites to beam internet down to customers. It's intended to bring high-speed connectivity to regions poorly served by conventional cable or fiber-optic infrastructure. Residential service costs $110 per month and is currently available in much of North America, Europe, and Australia, along with Japan and some South American countries.

In 2022, SpaceX has introduced a smattering of new offerings, including Starlink Maritime, which costs $5,000 per month and targets yachts, cruise ships, and container ships. The cruise giant Royal Caribbean will add Starlink Maritime to its fleet.

Starlink Aviation, announced earlier in October, costs $12,500-$25,000 per month and aims to bring faster Wi-Fi to commercial flights.
