Reaves, who is head of diversity and inclusion at Dell, argued that improving diversity in tech wasn't just a moral imperative, but a "business imperative" that'll pay dividends for companies. The tech industry still struggles with diversity, with workforces at most major companies dominated by white employees and men.

Under Reaves' leadership, Dell itself is taking steps to improve diversity - the company announced in November that it planned to reach gender parity by the end of this decade, increasing representation of women in its workforce to 50%. (Women currently make up 30% of Dell's employees.)

Reaves spoke to Business Insider during the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, on Tuesday about how business leaders can actively improve diversity at their companies.
