President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has awarded Amazon the Ukraine peace prize for its support of Ukraine during the country's war with Russia.

The prize was awarded to Amazon Web Services (AWS) by Ukraine's vice-prime minister and digital transformation minister, Mykhailo Fedorov, at a meeting in Lugano, Switzerland. Liam Maxwell, director of government transformation for AWS, accepted the award.

Fedorov shared a video of the prize on his Twitter, saying: "Amazon AWS literally saved our digital infrastructure."

He credited the AWS cloud for preserving Ukraine's state registries and critical databases.

"Amazon AWS has been actively supporting Ukraine since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion," a Telegram message from Ukraine's digital transformation ministry said. "From the very first days of the war, it banned the registration of new customers from Russia and Belarus."

The Ukraine peace prize was introduced earlier this year by Zelenskyy. It can be awarded to companies, governments, or politicians that support Ukraine in its war with Russia, according to a release issued by Ukraine Open for Business.

Google was the first company to be awarded the peace prize for its support of Ukraine in May, according to a tweet posted by Fedorov. Microsoft also received the Ukraine peace prize from Zelenskyy on Monday.

The conflict is now in its fifth month after Russia invaded its neighbor on February 24.
