Holland America's Zaandam cruise ship has been stuck at sea amid the pandemic.
- Brian Foran lives in New York City. His parents, James and Barbara Foran of New Jersey, have been stuck on the Holland America Cruise Zaandam since March 7, along with his aunt.
- Because of the COVID-19 crisis, no countries have allowed the ship - or the sister ship sent to rescue its healthy passengers - to dock, despite sick passengers and the deaths of four people onboard.
- His parents seem to be holding it together well, and say the ship's captain and crew are doing the best they can in dire circumstances.
- Initially upset because his parents went on the cruise against his and his siblings' wishes, Foran says he's "not mad anymore. I just want them home, locked away safely in their New Jersey home, away from the oceans and illness."

Brian Foran is a marketing professional based in Brooklyn, New York. Like many Americans, he had watched in alarm as the coronavirus spread throughout China, then the US, by the end of February, which is the last time he saw his parents, James and Barbara Foran of New Jersey.

Brian asked his parents not to go on the cruise.
"I had the conversation with my parents at my mom's birthday shortly before they left. I voiced my concerns and worry, as did my siblings. I think some individuals think people like my parents paid no heed to what was developing, and that's simply not true.
My parents weighed the pros and cons of canceling, with the cons being that they and my aunt would be out of a substantial amount of money they spent years saving to retire and take trips like this.
