HCL Technologies’ chairperson, Roshni Nadar, is India’s wealthiest woman for 2020, according to the Kotak Wealth Hurun - Leading Wealthy Women list released today.
Out of 100, there are 31 self-made women on the list — in which six are professional managers, and 25 are entrepreneurs. And, 15% of the women on the list hail from non-metro cities.
The listing is based on the net worth of women as of September 30. Interestingly, 19 women from this list were also featured in the ‘Hurun India Rich List 2020’, and six women have made it to the ‘Hurun Global Rich List 2020.’

Roshni Nadar
Net wealth: ₹54,850 crore
Company: HCL Technologies
Roshni Nadar, the recently appointed chairperson of the IT giant HCL Technologies, bagged first place in the Kotak Wealth Hurun wealthy women list 2020. The list estimates Nadar’s wealth to be somewhere around ₹54,850 crore. Before joining HCL, Nadar worked at Sky News UK and CNN America as a news producer.
Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw
Net wealth: ₹36,600 crore
Company: Biocon
The founder and managing director of Biocon, Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, has been ranked second in the Kotak-Hurun wealthy women list 2020. Shaw has an estimated net wealth of ₹36,600 crore. She is also the richest self-made woman on the list.
Leena Gandhi Tewari
Net wealth: ₹21,340 crore
Company: USV
With the estimated net wealth of ₹21,340 crore, the chairperson of the privately-held pharma company USV, Leena Gandhi Tewari, bagged third place in the Kotak-Hurun wealthy women list 2020. Tewari’s USV is a pioneer in diabetic and cardiovascular medicines in India and makes 80% of its revenue from the domestic market.
Nilima Motaparti
Net wealth: ₹18,620 crore
Company: Divi’s Laboratories
The Director (Commercial) of Divi’s Laboratories, Nilima Motaparti, ranked fourth on the Kotak Wealth Hurun - Leading Wealthy Women List 2020. The report estimates her wealth to be ₹18,620 crore. With over five years of international experience in material requirement, planning and financing, Nilima joined Divi’s as a chief controller in 2012.
Radha Vembu
Net wealth: ₹11,590 crore
Company: Zoho
The sister of Zoho founder Sridhar, Radha Vembu, occupied the fifth position with a net wealth of ₹11,590 crore. After graduating from IIT-Madras, Vembu joined Zoho, founded by her older brother Sridhar in 1997.
Jayshree Ullal
Net wealth: ₹10,220 crore
Company: Arista Networks
The CEO of the fastest-growing cloud-networking company, Arista Networks, Jayshree Ullal, ranked sixth on the Kotak Wealth Hurun - Leading Wealthy Women List 2020. She has an estimated net wealth of ₹10,220 crore. Arista Networks is currently valued at $16 billion under Ullal’s leadership.
Renu Munjal
Net wealth: ₹8,690 crore
Company: Hero FinCorp
The former executive director of Hero MotoCorp and current managing director of Hero FinCorp, Renu Munjal, ranked seventh on the Kotak Wealth Hurun - Leading Wealthy Women List 2020. Her estimated net wealth stood at ₹8,690 crore. Renu Munjal is the wife of late Raman Munjal.
Malika Chirayu Amin
Net wealth: ₹7,570 crore
Company: Alembic
The managing director and chief executive officer of Pharmaceutical company Alembic, Malika Chirayu Amin, ranked eighth on the Kotak Wealth Hurun - Leading Wealthy Women List 2020. She has an estimated net wealth of ₹7,570 crore. Amin has been working with Alembic since 1988.
Anu Aga and Meher Pudumjee
Net wealth: ₹5,850 crore
Company: Thermax
Anu Aga and Meher Pudumjee of Thermax rank ninth with a combined net wealth of ₹5,850 crore. In 2018, Anu retired from the Thermax board after crossing the age of 76. Meher, a chemical engineer from Imperial College of Science and Technology, was appointed as Thermax chairperson in 2003.
Falguni Nayar and family
Net wealth: ₹5,410 crore
Company: Nykaa
The founder and CEO of Nykaa, Falguni Nayar, ranked tenth on the Kotak Wealth Hurun - Leading Wealthy Women List 2020, with a net wealth estimated at ₹5,410 crore. In April 2020, the Mumbai-based beauty retailer Nykaa was valued at $1.2 billion.
