Time magazine released its annual list of the most influential people, and this year two Indians have made it to the list - actor Shah Rukh Khan and director SS Rajamouli. As is tradition, fellow celebrities wrote about the two for the US magazine. Here is more:
Shah Rukh Khan aka SRK has been acting for over three decades, transforming from everyone’s favourite “fauji” (soldier) on TV to a superstar who delivered one of Bollywood’s biggest hits since the pandemic, Pathaan. He, along with Pedro Pascal, King Charles, Ke Huy Quan, etc. are among the top “icons” for 2023.
Padukone debuted in the industry opposite SRK and has known him for over a decade. She said, “What truly sets him apart is his mind, his chivalry, his generosity. The list goes on … 150 words will never do justice to the phenomenon that is Shah Rukh Khan.”
The man behind global hits like Baahubali and RRR, SS Rajamouli is an Indian director. The recipient of a New York Film Critics Circle award, a Critics' Choice Movie Award, and three National Film Awards, Rajamouli was included in the “pioneer” category.
Bhatt, who starred in Rajamouli’s RRR, said “Being directed by him was like going to school all over again. He knows the audience he’s serving. He knows what beats to hit, what turns to take. I call him the master storyteller because he genuinely loves the flair and abandon of stories.”
The list also included two Indian-origin celebrities - British-American-Indian author Salman Rushdie, who recently survived a hate crime; and Indian-American author and TV host, Padma Lakshmi.
This year’s list included actors Jennifer Coolidge, Drew Barrymore, Michael B. Jordan; authors Neil Gaiman and Colleen Hoover; YouTuber and influencer Mr Beast; Syrian refugees and Olympians Sara Mardini and Yusra Mardini; and others.
Billionaire Gautam Adani, Supreme Court lawyer Karuna Nundy and Kashmiri activist Khurram Parvez were part of the list last year.
First launched in 1999, Time 100 is an annual listicle of the 100 most influential people in the world, assembled by the American news magazine Time.
