President Donald Trump agreed to tack on a three-month suspension of the federal debt ceiling to a bill that would also include money for Hurricane Harvey relief during a meeting with top Republican and Democratic leaders.
According to a source briefed on the meeting, Trump defied every top Republican in the room - along with his own Treasury secretary - by agreeing with Democratic congressional leaders Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi on the shorter debt ceiling window.
Republicans were advocating for a suspension of the debt ceiling of either six or 18 months.
This has angered some Republicans, who think that Trump gave in to the Democrats' demands.
"The Pelosi-Schumer-Trump deal is bad," said GOP Sen. Ban Sasse in a statement following the announcement.
A photo from Getty Images photographer Alex Wong drew interest as it appeared to show Schumer and Trump in the moments following the meeting. In the photo, Schumer is insistently pointing at Trump, while the president appears to be smiling broadly.
The image began circulating almost immediately on social media.
Now, that's a photo.
