Three things we wish India had like you do,
Germany

German Chancellor Angela Merkel is the latest victim, err, guest of Indian hospitality with her two-day visit to the country.

While Merkel who is here to hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi will look forward to discussing issues relating to security and defence and focus on boosting trade ties between the two nations, we at Business Insider have some other issues in mind that we hope she’d lend a patient ear to.

Let us explain.

India, more often than not, is an aspirational country, meaning it’s a country that aspires to be so much more, but is hardly successful in that endeavor. We try our best to imbibe qualities from other developed nations, but unfortunately never really get there.

Thus, with Merkel being right in our backyard, we thought it’d be best if we drew up our list of three things we would want India to make like Germany and get tips and cheat codes right from the horse’s mouth.

1. Germany’s football team: We are a country of sports lovers. Though, cricket takes the centre stage 90% of the year, the sacrosanct place that football commands can be witnessed by the craziness that ensues across the country when the World Cup is near. We watch and support Argentina, Brazil or Germany as if it’s our own team playing, and deep down we kind of wish it was. And who better to turn to Germany for help? They do have arguably one of the best football teams and if an Indian football team can ape even 30 percent of their talent and skill, we’d be an actual team and not just one on a videogame.

2. Tolerance towards immigrants: In the last 12 months alone, Germany has received close to 300,000 asylum claims and has welcomed numerous immigrants with arms wide open. The country has become the destination of the dispossessed, especially at a time when Britain has been facing facing severe backlash for its anti-refugee policy. Closer home, we’re living at a time when men get killed for consuming beef and people of a certain religion are stopped from entering temples. If there’s anything that’s the need of the hour, it is for us as a country to learn to be tolerant of each other and our beliefs and Germany we need you to teach us that.

3. Cars that are a dream come true: Be it an Audi, a Volkswagen, Porsche, BMW or Mercedes-Benz, Germany manufactures cars that have the style and the substance. While we continue fawning over how beautiful these cars are, India is yet to make anything that gorgeous. Hence, a crash course in how to manufacture cars that don’t crash at the first given instant seems like a must.

We’re hoping Angela Merkel indulges us with an answer to these doubts!

With love,
India
