Telecom Regulatory Authority of <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword> (TRAI) Chairperson Dr P.D. Vaghela on Friday said that introduction of <keyword id="764355" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="5g" source="Orion">5G</keyword> technology will enable India to achieve the digital empowerment goal and improve the well-being of the people. "5G technology would offer significant improvements in network performance and is likely to transform industries and society, putting the country on an unprecedented growth trajectory. 5G would have a massive impact on various industries and on the overall economy," he said at a workshop here. Vaghela also said that India is the second largest telecom market in the world now with 117 crore telecom subscribers and 825 million broadband subscribers. He said that India has considered technology as a key element for two things, one for rapid economic growth and the second for social and digital inclusion. According to him, the Digital India programme has helped a lot in expanding the use of technology and the Digital India profile has seen a huge change in various sectors. The TRAI chief also highlighted how the stakeholders can cooperate for expediting infrastructure rollout for 5G deployment considering the issues and challenges in the northeastern states. He said that the main focus of the government is to provide internet and digital access to everyone, including underserved people, to ensure that every section of society gets connectivity at any cost. About the need of adopting new digital technology for social and economic development, Vaghela said that digitalisation of the economy and also social life is of utmost importance in today's world. Emphasising the need for digital literacy and digital infrastructure, he said that the development of digital infrastructure and connectivity to every household is a must and this is the only way a common citizen becomes able to explore the opportunities available in an economy. 5G will improve network performance in India: TRAI Chairperson

Reliance Jio began the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/telecom/news/reliance-jio-to-begin-beta-trial-of-5g-in-four-cities-on-dussehra-with-unlimited-data/articleshow/94645577.cms">trial</a> of 5G services in four cities on the occasion of Dussehra. If you have an Airtel or a Jio SIM and live in one of the cities where the telcos have started to offer 5G services, you will be able to use it, except if you have an <keyword id="6354606" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="iphone" source="Orion">iPhone</keyword>. As our earlier report mentioned, Apple has yet to roll out an update for enabling 5G services in its 5G supported devices in India. So, despite having a 5G supported device and living in an area covered by 5G, iPhone users are currently not able to use 5G services. According to a <a href="https://telecom.economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/apple-will-roll-out-5g-software-updates-in-india-in-december/94800740">report</a> by Economic Times, this is not going to change anytime soon, and iPhone users may have to wait until December to use 5G. Apple has reportedly informed ET that an update to enable 5G services will be rolled out in December. "We are working with our carrier partners in India to bring the best 5G experience to iPhone users as soon as network validation and testing for quality and performance are completed. 5G will be enabled via a software update and will start rolling out to iPhone users in December," Apple said in a statement to ET. This means that iPhone users may have to wait for a long time before they will be able to use 5G services. As the Cupertino giant has said that the updates will “start rolling out to iPhone users in December”, it may take some time before all users receive the update, so, users may have to wait until next year to use 5G on iPhones. This comes when the Indian government has called for a <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/tech/mobile/news/indian-government-wants-apple-and-samsung-to-quickly-roll-out-the-update-to-enable-5g-support/articleshow/94788906.cms">meeting</a> to discuss a speedy rollout of software updates to enable 5G services. Interestingly, Apple is one of the companies that has been asked to attend the meeting. Smartphone makers such as Xiaomi, Vivo, Realme, Oppo and more have rolled out updates to enable 5G services on their devices. Major companies like OnePlus and Samsung have also started the rollout, with several of their devices already receiving updates. If you have an iPhone, you may not be able to use 5G before December

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has permitted telecom service providers (TSPs), including Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio Infocomm, Vodafone Idea, and MTNL, to conduct 5G trials. As largely anticipated, Chinese tech majors such as Huawei and ZTE have not been allowed to participate in the trials. An official statement said that the TSPs have tied up with original equipment manufacturers and technology providers -- Ericsson, Nokia, Samsung and C-DOT. In addition, Reliance Jio Infocomm will also be conducting trials using its own indigenous technology. The permissions have been given by the DoT as per the priorities and technology partners identified by TSPs themselves. The experimental spectrum is being given in various bands which include the mid-band (3.2 GHz to 3.67 GHz), millimetre wave band (24.25 GHz to 28.5 GHz) and in sub-Gigahertz band (700 GHz). The TSPs will also be permitted to use their existing spectrum (800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz and 2500 MHz) for conduct of 5G trials. The duration of the trials is for a period of six months. This includes a time period of two months for procurement and setting up of the equipment. The permission letters specify that each TSP will have to conduct trials in rural and semi-urban settings also, in addition to urban settings so that the benefit of 5G technology proliferates across the country and is not confined only to urban areas. The TSPs are encouraged to conduct trials using 5Gi technology in addition to the already known 5G technology. The International Telecommunications Union (ITU) has also approved the 5Gi technology, which was advocated by India, as it facilitates much larger reach of the 5G towers and radio networks. The 5Gi technology has been developed by the IIT Madras' Centre of Excellence in Wireless Technology (CEWiT), and the IIT Hyderabad. The Communications Ministry statement said that the objectives of conducting 5G trials include testing 5G spectrum propagation characteristics, especially in the Indian context, model tuning and evaluation of chosen equipment and vendors, testing of indigenous technology, testing of applications, and to test 5G phones and devices. 5G technology is expected to deliver improved user experience in terms of data download rates (expected to be 10 times that of 4G), up to three times greater spectrum efficiency, and ultra-low latency to enable Industry 4.0, it said. Applications are across a wide range of sectors such as agriculture, education, health, transport, traffic management, smart cities, smart homes, and multiple applications of IoT (Internet of Things). DoT has specified that the trials will be isolated and not connected with the existing networks of TSPs. Trials will be on non-commercial basis and the data generated during the trials shall be stored in India. TSPs are also expected to facilitate the testing of the indigenously-developed use cases and equipment as part of the trials. One hundred applications or use cases selected by DoT after conducting the recent hackathon on 5G applications can also be facilitated in these trials, it said. Commenting on the development, a Nokia spokesperson said: "Nokia India welcomes the government's decision to conduct trials including rural and semi-urban areas, aligned with the long-term vision of a Digital India." "We are confident of our readiness to support our customers in implementing 5G strategy with the advantage of our technology leadership, our experience in serving customers globally, and our initiatives in India including 5G manufacturing in Chennai." Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) Director General S.P. Kochhar said the move it will stimulate local R&amp;D ecosystem to develop innovative applications tailored to commercial needs. "We welcome the government's decision to start exhaustive 5G trials in different categories of locations across India. Indian government gives the nod for 5G trials, Chinese companies kept out for now

<keyword id="764355" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="5g" source="Orion">5G</keyword> will represent around 39 per cent of mobile subscriptions at the end of 2027 in India, where the 5G deployments are yet to begin, with about 500 million subscriptions, a report said on Tuesday. According to the latest edition of the Ericsson Mobility Report, 4G subscriptions are forecast to decline annually to an estimated 700 million subscriptions in 2027 as subscribers migrate to 5G post introduction of 5G in India. "The latest Ericsson Mobility Report confirms 5G as the fastest growing mobile technology generation ever, and Ericsson is playing a key role in making it happen," Fredrik Jejdling, Executive Vice President and Head of Networks, Ericsson, said in a statement. "We work every day with our customers and ecosystem partners around the world to ensure that millions more people, enterprises, industries, and societies enjoy the benefits of 5G connectivity as soon as possible," Jejdling added. In global terms, 5G is forecast to account for almost half of all subscriptions by 2027, topping 4.4 billion subscriptions. The report highlights that North America is forecast to lead the world in 5G subscription penetration in the next five years with nine-of-every-10 subscriptions in the region expected to be 5G by 2027. It also predicted that current global <keyword id="7746716" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="5g-subscriptions" source="Orion">5G subscriptions</keyword> will pass the one billion milestone by the end of 2022. The 2027-timeline also includes projections that 5G will account for 82 per cent of subscriptions in Western Europe; 80 per cent in the Gulf Cooperation Council region; and 74 per cent in North East Asia. 5G will represent nearly 40% of mobile subscriptions by 2027

As 5G roll-out picks up speed thanks to Reliance Jio and Airtel, <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword> climbed four spots for median mobile speeds globally in the month of April, from 64th position in March to 60th, a report said on Wednesday. Median mobile download speeds in India increased from 33.30 Mbps in March to 36.35 Mbps in April, according to network intelligence and connectivity insights provider Ookla. Overall, India showed improvement in its global ranking for median fixed broadband speeds, moving from the 84th position in March to the 83rd position in April. The country's performance in fixed median download speeds witnessed a slight increase from 50.71 Mbps in March to 51.12 Mbps in April. Qatar led the chart for global median mobile speeds, whereas Senegal jumped 16 spots in rank globally. For overall global fixed median speeds, Bahrain registered the highest increase in rank, jumping by 14 spots globally, with Singapore sustaining the first spot this month as well. In January, India ranked at 69th position globally in median mobile speeds, while, in February, India ranked at 67th position. Meanwhile, Qualcomm is rolling out 5G fixed wireless access (FWA) in collaboration with Reliance Jio to serve millions of residents in India, the chip-maker's President and CEO Cristiano Amon has said, as the country doubles down on providing 5G services to all by the end of the year. With the roll-out of 5G in India, the global chip-maker had bolstered its efforts with Reliance Jio to help it fast connect 100 million homes through its 5G FWA, including the millimetre wave (mmWave). India sees 4-spot jump in median mobile speeds globally

<ul><li>India's former telecom regulator Pradip Baijal has explained how India has had trouble managing its spectrum roll out for next-gen communications technology over the last few decades.</li><li>The latest in this telecom - 5G - is also facing similar hurdles in India, with the government yet to finalise guidelines and announce auction of airwaves.</li><li>He also explained how different use-cases of 5G are relevant and important to India - from the point of view of consumers as well as the industry.</li></ul>India always had problems in dealing with spectrum. We wasted valuable wireless spectrum for fixed line services in 1995, unlike any other country, after the erroneous decision that expensive mobile phones were not for the poor Indians. The decision was reversed in 2004, but led to a lot of inspired criticism by mobile incumbents. Earlier, the government approved a Convergence Bill in 2001, for more efficient use of spectrum, but was not approved. The government/regulator, therefore, approved a Unified Access License in 2004, reduction in interconnect charges and tariff forbearance. But, it took inefficiently long to bring in these changes (it had to be done in stages, by many regulatory efforts). Unified License reduced tariffs 50 times, but increased government revenues. Mobile numbers growth immediately increased 10 times, and gradually 200 times, three times ever the leader, China. 3G spectrum auctions were efficient later, though delayed, and showed the huge loss in 2G allocation and crony capitalism involved, the basis of the CAG report. The allocations led to litigation and differing and controversial judgments by the Supreme Court/CBI Court, the issue still remaining open, but this was one of the issues on which the UPA lost heavily to NDA, in the ultimate court of elections in 2014. 4G auctions were conducted efficiently, even though they were delayed, and now we have come to 5G auction issues, with an ET news item commenting, "India is set to miss the '5G bus' following the lack of preparedness, unavailability of sufficient spectrum, absence of encouraging use cases, and uncertainty around radio waves sale for the next generation of telecom services." This is despite India appointing A.J. Paulraj (winner of the Marconi Prize) Committee to give the recommendations to the steps required. They gave the report in mid-2018, and despite giving the schedule, we have not moved fast. In the past, Prime Minister Modi-led government maintained that it "won't afford to miss 5G bus" like in the case of 2G, 3G, and 4G technologies that were deployed in India way later than many countries, thus losing the many early user advantages. 5G and India Before we discuss, let us understand the nature of use of 5G. For a layman, 5G is just next generation wireless infrastructure which will provide them voice and data services. However, it will impact much more due to its bit-level intelligence characteristics. 5G will provide an array of network intelligence which will get translated into precise and demand-led resource allocation. 1G came in 1980s and provided basic voice services, 2G in 1990s and enabled voice and SMS services due to its digital standards, 3G came in 2000s and introduced data services along with voice and SMS that enabled multimedia services. 4G pure IP network, came in 2010s, and enabled the application services and partially merged the telecom and information technology which gave boom to platform services. The architecture of 5G is designed to handle the connection of billions of devices including industrial machines with seamlessness and reliable data transfer with much faster speed. 5G is not only about high speed boost but it is about the intelligence at the bit level and low latency which will make it the foundational tech for multiple new tech., including self-driven cars, AR &amp; VR, telemedicine, robotic surgery, powering future smart cities, IoT, m2m, AI and manufacturing. 5G will change the future war fighting too due to increased situational awareness to increase the command and control of the battlefield. Once these networks come, 2G and 3G networks can be abolished, like in other countries for better overall spectrum utilization. We have not started. Industrial revolutions and change It has been shown that industrial revolutions change the world. Hirschman had said that these revolutions occur every 70 years. This was proved in IR 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0. The US and the West's GDP went up five to six times in IR 1.0 &amp; 2.0, while India and China went down 10 times (colonial loot was also the reason). Growth reversal with IR 3.0 But IR 3.0 changed the world with the technology being on a connected net and with globalization, available to the Third World (right from the beginning). Of course, the US helped China a lot post 1980, in technology dispersal, and helping China with accelerated WTO membership in 2001. This led to China growing eight times and India 2.5 times in a few years. IR 4.0 and 5.0 The world is now moving to the fourth and the fifth industrial revolutions in quick succession. Providentially, these revolutions are also happening on the same wire or wireless lines as in IR 3.0, and we have bright Indian minds working in the digital sector like Nadella, Pichai, Arvind Kuar, Banga, Tata, Kohli, Nilekani, Narayana Murthy, Patni, Soota, Premji, and millions of others located in Silicon Valleys around the world. The most exciting additions to the list are Mukesh Ambani, Sunil Mittal and Kumar Mangalam Birla. They have kept the mobile sector alive despite crony capitalism, and given the appropriate ambience, should do very well now. Through them, and despite Covid, the world has shown confidence in the Indian economy. China should do well because of enormous investment, past technology thefts, uninhibited US support till 2015, and R&amp;D. The fifth IR will happen with IT getting connected to human minds (AI and beyond). IR 5.0 having reached the human mind, perhaps cannot move beyond, and the 6th IR has to be in another area, maybe the planets, as visualized by Jeff Bezos. Again, India is well-placed. Creating an appropriate environment is the key. Role of private sector It may also be recalled that the 2G rollout had created strong private sector companies and from 10 per cent private network, it had gone to 80 per cent (though the public sector had grown too). Later, despite crony capitalism, they had survived, and are today, India's main hope to take us forward. With 5G networks being more powerful, they will surely impact GDP growth much more than the earlier generation networks and move the country towards Namo's $5 trillion economy in 2024. Fiscal pressure on the government - we can ill-afford to ignore: We are today also hit by Covid, huge bank NPAs, financial crisis, fiscal deficits and fall in investments. 5G rollout is an opportunity for huge network (and downstream) investments by existing private sector companies and their networks all over the country, without putting any fiscal deficit pressure on the government. I had, therefore, anticipated in my China book and articles, that the present is 'providence' for India, like it was 'providence' for China in the 80s with an imaginary 'cold war'. Pricing issues A word about pricing here - our entire 2G revolution came after tariff forbearance, and liberal availability, connectivity and regulatory reforms. Obviously, once 5G revolutions get moving, the disruptions would be higher. Indian economy/GDP did well during IR 3.0, its DNA being more IT-centric, demonstrated by high growth in these sectors during some periods of IR 3.0, when regulations were right (2004 to 2010), particularly vis-a-vis China, and also the Indian minds being more IT-centric, demonstrated by the success of IT (software) and mobile revolutions. World digital economy In 2019, the world celebrated the first full year when more than half of the world (51.2 per cent, or 3.9 billion people) had begun to participate in the global digital economy by logging onto the internet, from almost zero a couple of years back. The world is turning fully digital, and networks converging very fast. China has touched 840 million subscriber base and will be 1 billion at the end of 2020, with superior speed, whereas India has only touched 600 million broadband subscribers. The world will thus transform itself to a form that during IR 4.0 and 5.0 the versatile 4 and 5G networks will be more valuable than all other infrastructure, like roads, rail and air transportation systems etc. Looking at the future, China has created companies which are leading in 5G, AI, quantum computing and other digital products and shaping up the digital behaviour of the people because they are deploying networks faster and learning by doing it. China is also leading in the standardization and patents of the digital ecosystem, manufacture of equipment etc. In contrast, the Indian 5G process is yet to commence (allocation of spectrum and installation of 5G equipment), though we have done extremely well despite late start in the past. India can grow in IR 4.0 given its human capital pool, the start in the use of algorithm prowess and an established IT hub, only if we install 4G and 5G systems adequately. But expensive and presently unviable (for India, since IR 4.0 and 5.0 industries and services have not started) 5G systems are likely to come in slow. Also, the spectrum and equipment prices are anticipated to be high. Unless both spectrum and equipment prices are low and heavily backloaded, I do not see India coming out of the jigsaw puzzle, and not falling back severely in the digital war. And if we miss India's turnaround moment, India's vast market and trained manpower will be used by advanced countries to develop 5G / IR4.0 and 5.0 networks fast. The Paulraj Committee recommended that 5G will mature between 2019 and 2024. India should take lead and become an innovator in 5G applications. India's former telecom regulator shows how much India is lagging behind in the 5G pursuit

As <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword> rides on 5G with more than 50 cities and towns now enjoying the new technology, the India Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA) Chairman Pankaj Mohindroo said on Monday that by the end of 2023, 75-80 per cent of the new smartphone launches will be 5G-enabled. The 5G services were launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 1. Telecom service providers have launched the service in select cities and plan to cover the entire nation by the end of 2023 or early 2024. "India as a nation is an early adopter of 5G technology. This 5G technology has opened a vast opportunity for a new generation of telecom equipment manufacturers, application providers, and internet of things (IoT), machine-2-machine (M2M) and healthcare services, among others," Mohindroo told IANS. The mobile device ecosystem was an early starter for manufacturing 5G phones. Even before the launch of 5G services, approximately 80-100 million 5G-compatible phones were already in the market. 5G will represent around 53 per cent of mobile subscriptions in India by 2028, with 690 million users, according to 'Ericsson Mobility Report'. 5G subscriptions in India were expected to reach around 31 million by the end of 2022. On semiconductor industry, Mohindroo said that the Indian semiconductor market was $15 billion in 2020 and expected to reach $63 billion by 2023 at 30 per cent CAGR. "This is a huge opportunity for the nation. The government is very focused on setting up the entire semiconductor ecosystem in the country from semiconductor fab, compound semiconductors, discrete semiconductors, assembly, testing, marking, and packaging (ATMP) units, etc," said Mohindroo. The India Semiconductor Mission offers an incentive outlay of Rs 76,000 crore for the development of semiconductor ecosystem in India, offering fiscal support of 50 per cent of the project cost. "We feel that the next focus should be ensuring skilling of the workforce for the sector and incentivising the downstream value chain in semiconductor manufacturing," he said. <ul><li>Samsung is getting ready to work with Indian telecom operators to prepare them for the upcoming 5G rollout. </li><li>The South Korean tech giant already had a taste of success as the sole infrastructure partner behind Jio’s 4G network rollout.</li><li>Samsung will compete against Nokia, Ericsson and maybe, Huawei, to provide Jio, Vodafone Idea and Bharti Airtel with 5G infrastructure for their new networks.</li></ul>Samsung, the South Korean tech giant, is preparing itself for a possible 5G rollout in India, after equipped with the experience of doing the same in the US and South Korea. The company is looking to take advantage of the fact that it had deployed the massive network for Reliance Jio’s 4G services all by itself. And, it’s not the only company looking to capitalise on the $27 billion market potential that India presents. The 5G New Radio (NR) is based on the new 5G standards that will increase the network’s capacity for transferring data, dole out lower latency and handle congestion better. And, they’re all hoping that Huawei is cut from the race so that there is one less competitor to face, when 5G spectrum allocation finally takes place. Huawei’s participation in the 5G race, as of now, still hangs in the balance. Samsung, Ericsson and Nokia get set for the big 5G windfall from India

Commercial 5G network is going to transform businesses by  improving operations, customer experience, employee efficiency and much more

Telecom gear makers Ericsson and Nokia have initiated talks with Indian telecom companies and policy makers so that they could look out for possible engagements in fifth-generation (<keyword id="764355" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="5G">5G</keyword>) technology. 
 
5G, which is still in its standardisation phase, is likely to be ready for commercial deployment by 2020. 
 
The talks have begun around telcos' interest and preparedness for 5G, while also identifying relevant spectrum band so that it can be supported. 
 
Executives from both Ericsson and Nokia, which are globally known for their rivalry, have visited Inida to hold meetings with industry stakeholders. 
 
Magnus Ewerbring, CTO of the APAC region at Ericsson, was recently in India to meet telco customers and government officials. "It's important to start to think about it now and ensure that step by step we are prepared for it both from network and regulatory perspectives," he told ET. 
 
Ewerbring also said that there is already a good understanding of 5G in India. "I can't say when operators will start, but India is a huge country and can start very early with a limited deployment." 
 
India is lagging behind the developed nations in achieving 4G networks, which are being deployed in urban and semi-urban areas. 
 
"If a country uses a band which is very common with the rest of the world, there will be more focus and technology will come out much quicker. It is better for India to be on the same balance as the rest of the world," Ewerbring further told ET.

Telecom companies join hands to seek reservation of 5G airwaves

<ul><li>Chinese tech giant Huawei has been cleared for 5G trials in India.</li><li>The company’s chairman Eric Xu said, "Survival will be our top priority," in a New Year’s note to employees.</li><li>Even though Huawei will be able to test its technology in India, it remains unclear whether it will actually be allowed to officially set it up once 5G goes live.</li></ul>Huawei’s had a rough year dealing with the fall out of the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/google-ends-ties-with-huawei-no-more-youtube-gmail-maps-play-store/articleshow/69408135.cms">US trade ban</a>. In addition to not being able to do business with American companies, the western government has also been lobbying its allies to boycott the Chinese tech giant over national security concerns — and Huawei’s been feeling the crunch. "Survival will be our first priority," said Huawei Chairman Eric Xu in a <a href="http://www.sinodaily.com/afp/191231000944.s218u1gc.html">New Year’s message</a> addressed to employees. Even though the company’s sales revenue grew by 18% this year, it didn’t manage to reach the $125 billion goal forecast in January.  But, better circumstances seem to be on the horizon for next year. Despite <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/the-us-is-having-a-tough-time-convincing-the-worlds-biggest-democracy-to-ditch-huawei/articleshow/68113266.cms">US’ attempts</a> to convince India to keep Huawei from deploying its <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/tech/enterprise/news/5g-airports-ai-powered-safe-cities-and-many-more-that-huawei-has-on-offer-at-the-india-mobile-congress-2019/articleshow/71591351.cms">5G technology in the country</a> — the government has approved the company’s participation in the upcoming 5G trials. "All players means all players," said telecom and IT minister <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/business/india-business/huawei-cleared-for-5g-trials-as-govt-brushes-aside-us-concerns/articleshow/73038565.cms">Ravi Shankar Prasad</a> on Monday. The issue of national security The core issue with Huawei is its <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/china-is-threatening-india-into-using-its-5g-technology/articleshow/70568132.cms">close ties with the Chinese government</a>. The US’ ban on doing business with the company was because of paranoia that its equipment could be <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/Trump-calls-blacklisted-Huawei-a-national-security-threat-and-says-he-doesnt-want-to-do-business-with-it-at-all-in-an-apparent-policy-flip/articleshow/70736199.cms">used to spy</a> on the government and its citizens. Europe, on the other hand, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/the-eu-is-ignoring-us-calls-to-boycott-huawei-in-its-5g-roll-out-despite-security-concerns/articleshow/68595225.cms">took a different route</a>. Instead of banning Huawei, it told network operators to scrutinize their own cybersecurity parameters to ensure that’s they’re robust enough to fend off any attempted espionage. India seems to be doing the same. But, not everyone agrees. Ashwani Mahajan, the national co-convenor of the Swadesh Jagran Manch (SJM), tweeted that India is compromising its national security just because it’s in a rush to launch 5G.  Huawei stands innocent till the end Huawei was charged with <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/Federal-prosecutors-are-leading-a-criminal-investigation-into-Huawei-and-allegations-that-it-stole-trade-secrets-from-US-companies/articleshow/67565003.cms">23 indictments</a> for the theft of trade secrets and fraud by the US Department of Justice in January. But the company has continuously denied any wrongdoing and continues to maintain that it’s completely innocent. In India, Huawei will be allowed to participate in the 5G trials alongside other big wigs like Cisco, Nokia and Ericsson. However, it’s still unclear whether the Chinese company will be allowed to sell its equipment once 5G officially starts rolling out. Huawei isn’t going to give up without a fight. Cybersecurity and user priority are at the "absolute top" of Huawei’s agenda, according to Xu’s note.
