 <keyword id="849288" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Aditya-Birla-Retail-Limited">Aditya Birla Retail Limited</keyword> (<keyword id="148276" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="ABRL">ABRL</keyword>) has passed a board resolution that allows shares to be issued on a preferential basis to either Kanishtha Finance &amp; Investment or RKN Retail, promoted by <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Aditya-Birla-Group-would-soon-allow-employees-to-take-time-off-for-pursuing-their-entrepreneurial-ideas/articleshow/51024584.cms">Birla</a>, his family and some closely-held companies of the family. These details were revealed by the privately-held company in a filing with the Registrar of Companies.

"The issuance and allotment for shares up to Rs 500 crore will be in one or more tranches within a period of twelve months," the filing said. With the additional capital, the company will be able to meet its capital expenditure needs while also handling of its debt. 
 "The board resolution was related to an enabling provision to allow the company increase the authorised capital to meet its general corporate expenses in the ordinary course of business and also to refinance its existing debt portfolio," <keyword id="271065" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Pranab-Barua">Pranab Barua</keyword>, business director for apparel and retail business at <keyword id="44373" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Aditya-Birla-Group">Aditya Birla Group</keyword>, told ET.

ABRL is the fourth largest supermarket chain in India, featuring in the list after <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Kishore-Biyani-in-talks-to-raise-Rs-300-crore-for-FMCG-business/articleshow/50055279.cms">Future Group</a>, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/LYF-worth-could-be-1-billion-next-year/articleshow/52255160.cms">Reliance Retail </a>and <keyword id="3374400" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="DMart">D'Mart</keyword>. As of now, the authorised capital is Rs 390 crore, from which it is being planned to be increased to Rs 750 crore. 
 
Since its inception over 9 years ago, ABRL has seen losses of Rs 5,320 crore; however, for the year ended March 2015, the losses were reduced by 5% and brought down to Rs 571 crore. 
 
The reason behind this is said to be their strategy of focusing on <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/One-of-Aditya-Birlas-cos-is-heading-for-a-London-Stock-Exchange-listing-soon/articleshow/49448895.cms">profitable markets</a>.

Kumar Mangalam Birla and family are investing Rs 500 crore in food and grocery biz

<keyword id="44950" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Kishore-Biyani">Kishore Biyani</keyword>’s <keyword id="44949" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Future-group">Future Group</keyword> has resumed talks to either buy or merge <keyword id="49861" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Aditya-Birla-Retail">Aditya Birla Retail</keyword>’s ‘More’ supermarket business and cement its position further in the retail sector. 
 
The talks about the buyout or merger had begun a while ago but did not materialise. The discussions have begun again now. 
 
If the deal sees light of the day, this will be Future Group's fourth acquisition of food and grocery chain in less than five years. 
 Previously, Future Group bought Big Apple in 2012, Nilgiri's in 2014 and merged <keyword id="117289" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bharti-Retail">Bharti Retail</keyword> with itself in 2015. 
 
Aditya Birla Retail is the fourth-largest supermarket chain in India after Future Group, Reliance Retail and D'Mart with 500 stores and revenues of Rs 2,948 crore during 2014-15. 
 
Meanwhile, this acquisition or merger will also bring in more debt to Biyani. 
 
ABRL had a net loss of Rs 571 crore in FY14-15 and total debt of Rs 5,232 crore as of March 31, 2015. Future has a debt burden of Rs 4,941 crore, and high interest outgo has been impacting profits. 
 "Traditionally, brick-and-mortar retailers have not been innovative enough to extend sales from their stores to online. Online can be a 'bolt on' to the offline stores. An offline store can cover only 2-3 km radius of catchment. With online, one store can cover up to 12 km radius," K Radhakrishnan, cofounder of <keyword id="2817480" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="GrocerMax">GrocerMax</keyword>, told ET.

Kishore Biyani resumes talks to buy or merge Aditya Birla Retail and this will be his fourth acquisition

New Delhi, Feb 6 () Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail on Thursday reported a consolidated net loss of Rs 37.64 crore for the quarter ended on December 31, 2019. The company had posted a net profit of Rs 70.25 crore in the corresponding period of previous fiscal, Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail said in a filing to the BSE. Revenue from operations stood at Rs 2,582.74 crore for the quarter under consideration. It was Rs 2,281.55 crore for the same period year ago. During the third quarter of current financial year, the company's deferred income tax was at Rs 141.82 crore. Shares of Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail closed at Rs 254.40 per scrip on the BSE, up 6.71 per cent over previous close. AKT RUJ

Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail posts Q3 net loss of Rs 37.64 cr

To react faster in the marketplace, the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Aditya+Birla+Group+">Aditya Birla Group</a> has come up with an idea of mentoring its young leaders. It has roped in transition coaches and internal chieftains to train its young managers who are being elevated as the metals-to-retail conglomerate transforms into a more consumer-facing organisation with expansion in <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=telecom">telecom</a>, retail and financial services. 
 
In the past one year, the $41-billion, or about Rs 2,67,000-crore, group has shown confidence in young leaders by handing them several key roles with profit and loss (P&amp;L) responsibility, reported the Economic Times. 
 
Therefore these leaders, who are below 35 years of age, need coaching and mentoring that has become an integral part of transformation strategies of Indian conglomerates and business houses. 
 
"Young talent in the system are being given larger responsibilities as first-time managers as the organisation transforms into a more learning and consumer focused entity which is more agile, proactive and empowered in the marketplace," said Santrupt Misra, global human resources director of the group and CEO of Carbon Black. 
 
"It is about creating a culture of acting," he told ET at an exclusive meeting. 
 
The group has two initiatives — 'Lead Leap' and 'Cutting Edge Program' — in place to create a pipeline of leaders to take up key roles in its more than 40 companies, including <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Hindalco+Industries">Hindalco Industries</a>, <keyword id="6354924" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Idea-Cellular">Idea Cellular</keyword>, Madura fashions and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Ultratech+Cements">Ultratech Cements</a>, with operations in over 40 countries. 
 
"We are not disparate businesses anymore... and we need to create a consumer brand mind set among employees," Misra said. 
 
The group portfolio includes a combination of both asset heavy global businesses such as metals and cement and asset light businesses such as retail, financial services, insurance and telecom. 
 
The <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Reserve+Bank+of+India+%28RBI%29+">Reserve Bank of India (RBI)</a> has recently given in-principle approval to Aditya Birla Nuvo to start a payment bank. The group is also reported to be eyeing a strong presence in the ecommerce space, either through acquiring existing players or building one from scratch. 
 
Misra said having a strong team of young managers is important in consumer businesses that require quick decisions. 
 Young managers such as Suraj Bahirwani, COO, hyper market, at Aditya Birla Retail; Bijoy Chatterjee, head of Star Cement, Bahrain; Sunaina De Cunha, fund manager, fixed income, at Birla Sun Life Asset Management; <keyword id="3011670" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Rakesh-Pundir">Rakesh Pundir</keyword>, functional head, network services, at Idea Cellular; and Munish Rathi, factory head at Aditya Birla Insulators, were elevated to their current roles under the Lead Leap initiative, which offers opportunities to work across the group's diverse businesses and meet and engage with its eminent business leaders. 
 "Senior management ages are becoming lower everyday across sectors, be it consumer, retail, <keyword id="34523" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="fmcg">FMCG</keyword>, technology or any other. At the same, time business environment is changing faster than people are able to adapt," said Navnit Singh, chairman and MD of India for Korn/Ferry International. 
 
"In such a scenario, a lot of Indian business houses are realising that in the end there is no better way to build talent than giving people from within the opportunity to grow by training or coaching them," he said. 
 The <keyword id="44373" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Aditya-Birla-Group">Aditya Birla Group</keyword> had been working on a centralised employer brand strategy across its companies. Misra said the group HR has taken the ownership of the employer brand centrally to ensure appropriate alignments and investments between the companies.

The deal is valued at about ₹42 billion ($580 million), according to several media reports. Offline push The deal marks Amazon’s plans to make a foray into its food retail business in India, helping it set up an offline presence similar to its strategy in the US where it has acquired grocery chain Whole Foods. This deal will also help it compete with US mass retail giant Walmart Inc. which recently bought e-commerce company Flipkart Inc. for $16 billion, and with Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba, which is said to be considering a $5 billion (₹350 billion) investment into a joint venture with Reliance Retail, India’s largest retailer in terms of sales. Amazon has said to have set aside $500 million for its India grocery expansion plans. It has already invested $5 billion into India, its fastest growing market. Pursuant to the above, TCNS will be amalgamated with ABFRL under the merger scheme wherein public shareholders of TCNS (as on effective date) will receive 11 shares of ABFRL for every 6 shares that they hold in TCNS. The transaction is subject to customary regulatory approvals including approvals from the Competition Commission of India, SEBI, Stock Exchanges, and National Company Law Tribunal. TCNS to merge with Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited (ABFRL)

<ul><li>The company is likely to announce its share allotment status on October 6.</li><li>The mutual fund company’s IPO was subscribed 5.25 times on the last day of bidding.</li><li>Investors have bid for 14.59 crore shares against the 2.77 crore shares on offer.</li></ul>The mutual fund company Aditya Birla Sun Life AMC is likely to announce the allotment of its initial public offering (IPO) status on Wednesday, October 6. The IPO was open for subscription between September 29 and October 1. The mutual fund company is looking to raise ₹2,768 crore through sale of 3.88 crore shares. The IPO proceeds will go to promoters since the company is a joint venture between Aditya Birla Capital and Canadian firm Sun Life AMC. Both the promoters will jointly sell a 13.5% stake in the company through the IPO. The IPO has received decent response from investors overall, however, qualified institutional buyers and non-institutional investors subscribed to it the most. Aditya Birla Sun Life AMC IPO: Here’s how to check allotment status

Looks like <keyword id="44373" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Aditya-Birla-Group">Aditya Birla group</keyword> is all set to tap the entrepreneurial ideas of its employees, which is why it has planned to roll out an intrapreneurship programme soon, which is called Innolabs. Under the programme, the company will allow its staff to take time off from work to pursue their entrepreneurial ambitions. 
 
In August last year, the group had also started Aditya Birla Bizlabs, which was its programme to collaborate with start-ups in the retail, financial services and telecom businesses. The group has a dominant presence in these sectors. Out of the 1,200 start-ups that applied for the programme, 20 were selected to "scale up". 
 "When we were doing all of this (Bizlabs) for startups outside, our employees joining us from IITs and IIMs started asking: what is there in it for us? So, we have started working on something for our employees called <keyword id="3249352" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="aditya-birla-innolabs">Aditya Birla Innolabs</keyword>," Umesh Adhikary, president, corporate strategy and business development, Aditya Birla Group told ET. 
 
"If your idea is great and we see conviction and passion in you, we are going to help you create a company of your own. At the same time, we are going to give you a six-month or one-year sabbatical where you are going to go, develop the product, create your own team... and in case you fail, you can come and join back," added Adhikary. 
 
"We are forging partnerships with Nasscom 10,000 startups, Microsoft Ventures, Techstars, 500 startups," said Adhikary, who added that the group would prefer to work with slightly older startups which are looking at geographic expansion. 
 
Similarly, RIL has set up GenNext Innovation Hub, which is a start-up accelerator programme running in partnership with Microsoft Ventures. 
 
"It's a healthy development," says Sharad Sharma, cofounder of iSPIRT, commenting on Birla's move. "It's a playbook that Indian conglomerates have companies from tech companies globally and it's a proven one," he adds.

Simon Carter’s exclusive stores will be launched across three top metros of India, viz. Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru. 
 
"This deal was part of our strategic intent to grow our international portfolio and this new relationship with Simon Carter will bring London's high fashion to the Indian market," stated Pranab Barua, Aditya Birla Group Business Head, Apparel &amp; Retail Business. 
 
"The brand will offer complete ensemble solutions ranging from formal wear to casual wear," Barua said. 
 
On this, Carter said, "We have worked together for a number of years and they are perfectly placed to use their expertise and resources to bring my brand to the Indian customer." 
 
Simon Carter began his career in 1985 with a wholesale business, and now retails his collections in 40 countries across the globe, including Liberty, Bloomingdales USA, Seibu Japan, Brown Thomas Ireland, and David Jones Australia.
