However, while most boomers might discard the career path due to well-established fears of the “struggling artist”, India’s most <keyword id="21837275" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="successful-artists" source="keywords">successful artists</keyword> are anything but struggling, it turns out.<br /><br />The <keyword id="21308480" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hurun-Research-Institute" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Hurun Research Institute" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Hurun Research Institute">Hurun Research Institute</keyword> has just released their <em>Art List of 2024</em>, which encapsulates the top 50 most successful living painters and sculptors from India, or who have made India their place of work. With notable figures such as the creator of Chicago’s “<em><keyword id="21837279" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="the-bean" source="Orion">The Bean</keyword></em>” and various <keyword id="20128810" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Padma-Bhushan" source="keywords">Padma Bhushan</keyword> and Padma Shri recipients in the list, you can rest assured that this article is as Indian parent-friendly as can be.<br /><br />Dominating the list for the sixth year in a row, 70-year-old sculptor <keyword id="21283454" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Anish-Kapoor" source="keywords">Anish Kapoor</keyword> continues to exercise his fame as India’s most successful artist alive. According to Hurun, the creator of ‘<em>Cloud Gate</em>’ — or ‘<em>The Bean</em>’ as it is commonly known – amassed a whopping Rs 79.9 crores via a plethora of sculptures last year. If not for The Bean, you might remember Anish from his involvement in the Vantablack controversy, when the artist signed a contract for exclusive rights to the new material’s use in painting and sculpture.<br /><br />Such is the fame that Anish has carved out for himself that he even reigns far above the rest of the Indians on Hurun’s list, monetarily speaking. In second place comes 87-year-old <keyword id="21837278" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="gulam-mohammed-sheikh" source="keywords">Gulam Mohammed Sheikh</keyword>, a Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan awardee who earned an impressive Rs 24.1 crores last year. The richest woman artist with an inspiring banker-turned-painter story, 87-year-old Arpita Singh, came in third with Rs 22.9 crores.<br /><br />In fact, while artists over 80 years of age litter most of the list — the oldest being the 99-year-old <keyword id="21837277" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="krishen-khanna" source="keywords">Krishen Khanna</keyword> in fifth position with 18 crores — there is one unmissable and striking exception. 27-year-old <keyword id="21837276" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="raghav-babbar" source="keywords">Raghav Babbar</keyword> became the eighth highest-selling Indian artist after totalling 12.1 crores in sales, providing a fantastic example that even youngsters can make money through art.<br /><br />As for the individual pieces with the biggest price tags, Gulam Mohamed Sheikh’s 2015 piece ‘<em>Ark: Kashmir</em>’ stands far ahead of the competition after being sold at Rs 21 crores last year. In total, four art creations were sold for over Rs 5 crores last year, including designs from Arpita Singh, Anish Kapoor and Raghav Babbar. A sculpture of the Hulk constructed from stainless steel discs and plated fibreglass by Valay Shende was another of the top-selling works in 2023.<br /><br />With a total of Rs 301 crores from 789 art lots sold, this year’s report shows a very clear trend: the demand for Indian art is indubitably on the rise. In fact, the entry point for artists in the top ten almost quadrupled from Rs 2 crores to Rs 7.7 crores in the mere span of three years. These figures helped India land the seventh place globally in terms of art auction turnover, according to Hurun.<br /><br />"With rising middle-class incomes, our expectation is that Indian art will become one of the top preferred choices to 'invest' in a growing asset class and 'spend' on a meaningful lifestyle addition,” explains Anas Rahman Junaid, founder of Hurun India. He argues that India being one of the world’s oldest civilisations lends it an exponentially higher intrinsic art value compared to the status quo. This recognition will likely continue to help the Indian art sector grow at a good pace in the coming years.<br />

The Luxembourg-headquartered company revealed this week that its recycled and renewably-produced <keyword id="22405379" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="XCarb" source="keywords">XCarb</keyword> is behind the Torches that have been touring the world, the <keyword id="21892224" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Olympic-Rings" source="keywords">Olympic Rings</keyword> that now adorn the French capital's iconic Eiffel Tower landmark and the Agitos symbol of the Paralympics atop the city's Arc de Triomphe. <br /><br />The <keyword id="20260077" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="Paris-Olympics-2024" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Paris Olympics 2024" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Paris Olympics 2024">Paris Olympics 2024</keyword> is also setting a new milestone by reusing the Torches for the first time, with a significantly reduced carbon footprint with the production of just 2,000 required as opposed to 12,000 in the past. <br /><br />"We think the Games are about sport, but they transcend sport," Ian Louden, the Head of Brand for ArcelorMittal, told reporters in Paris. <br /><br />"They go over and above sport itself, trying at least to bring together the world on a platform of equality and peace and shared belief. For example, for the very first time in Paris 2024, there are equal numbers of male and female athletes. As a leading global industrial company, we think this is exactly the kind of event in society that we should support," he said. <br /><br />The company previously tied up with the London 2012 Olympic Games, resulting in the ArcelorMittal Orbit designed by celebrated British Indian artist Anish Kapoor. <br /><br />The Paris Games, opening on July 26 and running until August 11, involves the firm providing the steel and manufacturing knowhow for the Torch, designed by French artist Mathieu Lehanneur, and what is collectively referred to as the "Spectaculars" - the Olympic Rings and the Agitos - a project masterminded by engineer Professor Pierre Engel. <br /><br />"This is the work of a big team, from the production of the steel in Chateauneuf in Burgundy to the lifting of the rings involving about 200 people," said Professor Engel. <br /><br />"We had to face several challenges and the first one was to decide the position, then imagine innovative lighting and, of course, the safety of a project involving such iconic landmarks of Paris," he said. <br /><br />Engel and his team worked at pace over the course of 18 months with a retired Army man in charge of keeping the timelines to military precision. <br /><br />"We could not risk any drifting timelines associated with the construction industry with this project, with the date of the Games a definitive finishing line," noted Engel. <br /><br />Measuring 29 metres wide by 15 metres high, and positioned approximately 84 metres off the ground, in between the first and second floors of the Eiffel Tower, the Rings appear in their coloured form of red, blue, green, yellow and black - depicting the five continents of the world. At night, they are lit up in white "because you cannot light black", explains Engel. The Agitos, meanwhile, depicted in red, blue and green, are lit up in colour 24/7. <br /><br />"Being an official partner of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games and supplier of the Torch gives ArcelorMittal an incredible opportunity to showcase the beauty, flexibility and potential of steel," said CEO Aditya Mittal. <br /><br />The company's XCarb products are made via the electric arc furnace route, using high levels of scrap steel and 100 per cent renewable energy. This means the carbon footprint of such products can be as low as approximately 300kg of CO2 per tonne of finished steel. The 2024 Olympic project was executed entirely in France and involved giving new life to scrap steel from end-of-life cars and washing machines. <br /><br />The "Spectaculars" are expected to carry on their life well beyond the Olympic Games, with the city's Mayor wanting to keep them atop the landmarks at least till the end of the year and a second life expected for the next set of Games in France. <br /><br />Meanwhile, Paris is busy getting spruced up for a grand opening ceremony on July 26, when the Torch will make its way down the River Seine to the Olympic Cauldron at a closely guarded secret location in the French capital. <br /><br />"This global event, the most famous and engaging sports event in the world, resonates with the values that drive our group and all our employees around the world: the desire to constantly raise the bar; inclusion and diversity; and the quest for net zero, illustrated by the Paris 2024 ambition to limit its CO2 footprint," added ArcelorMittal Chairman Lakshmi Mittal.

ArcelorMittal showcases low-carbon steel tie-up with Paris Olympics 2024

New Delhi, Dec 15 () Smartphone maker Infinix will soon join peers such as Xiaomi, Motorola and OnePlus by bringing its smart televisions (TVs) to the Indian market in the first half of 2020.
<p> "We are looking at getting into new segments like smart TVs and expanding smart accessories. While it's still early to talk about product specifications, we expect to bring in smart TVs in the first half of 2020," Infinix India Chief Executive Officer Anish Kapoor told .
</p><p> He added that India will be among the first markets, where smart TVs will be introduced.
</p><p> "It's important to get the hardware as well as the software right. Work is on in that direction," he noted.
</p><p> Infinix, which is part of China's Transsion Group, focusses on the sub-Rs 10,000 smartphone market in India.
</p><p> Kapoor said while a number of brands have brought in their smart TVs in the Indian market, there is still scope for a lot of growth.
</p><p> A number of smartphone players such as Xiaomi, Samsung, LG, Micromax and Motorola also have smart TVs in their product portfolio.
</p><p> Premium smartphone maker OnePlus also joined the bandwagon with two premium smart TV models that are currently available in India only. Recently, Flipkart had launched the Nokia Smart TV in India as well.
</p> The Indian television market is estimated to be about 12.5 million units annually, in which Samsung, Sony and LG control an estimated three-fourth market share.  SR  HRS

In between pool dips, I plan my trips around hikes amid otherworldly landscapes, shop at designer boutiques, and take my family to the zoo. </p><p>Whether you're into retro design, outdoor pursuits, or family-friendly activities, you'll find so much to do in the desert. Billed as the world's largest rotating tram car, it's guaranteed to make your palms sweat over its two-and-a-half-mile ascent along Chino Canyon to the wilderness of Mount San Jacinto State Park. </p><p>Mind your wardrobe even if it's hot on the valley floor. At an elevation of 8,516 feet, it can be a lot colder than down below, by as much as 40 degrees. In fact, would you believe I once experienced a truly magical Christmas Eve snowfall here at the summit? </p><p>At the top of the mountain, you'll find restaurants, observation decks, a natural history museum, a gift shop, and more than 50 miles of hiking trails.</p><div type="image" title="A giant statue of Marilyn Monroe surrounded by palm trees." height="3268" width="4358" msid="90232877" hostid="261"></div><p><strong>Palm Springs Art Museum</strong></p><p>In addition to all that sun, soak up some culture at the <a href="https://www.psmuseum.org/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener sponsored">Palm Springs Art Museum</a>. The largest cultural institution in the Coachella Valley (and the only major art museum between L.A. and Phoenix) features a huge permanent collection spread across 150,000 square feet. </p><p>The collection features 19th-, 20th-, and 21st-century works with an emphasis on contemporary California art from the likes of Marina Abramović, Louise Bourgeois, John Chamberlain, Antony Gormley, Duane Hanson, Mona Hatoum, Anish Kapoor, Anselm Keifer, Sarah Sze, and Stanley Whitney. </p><p>The 433-seat Annenberg Theater within the museum hosts concerts and events like Broadway shows, cabaret, jazz, classical, opera, dance, and entertainment-industry speakers.</p><div type="image" title="A street fair with people and Palm Trees in Palm Springs" height="800" width="1066" msid="90232880" hostid="261"></div><p><strong>Palm Springs VillageFest</strong></p><p>If you're in town on a Thursday night, head straight to downtown Palm Springs for <a href="http://villagefest.org/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener sponsored">VillageFest</a> on Palm Canyon Drive for this great market. The street closes to vehicles and comes alive with pedestrians for a traffic-free art walk with vendor booths offering a mix of art, food, and other shoppable temptations set up on both sides of the street, from Indian Canyon Drive to the east and Belardo Road to the west. </p><div type="image" title="Giraffes grazing on a field behind palm trees." height="800" width="1066" msid="90232881" hostid="261"></div><p><strong>Living Desert Zoo &amp; Gardens</strong></p><p>The <a href="https://www.livingdesert.org/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener sponsored">Living Desert Zoo &amp; Gardens</a>, a nonprofit zoo and desert botanical gardens in neighboring Palm Desert is a favorite among families with kids who need an outing for all ages. The park focuses on desert climates, so it's not like the average zoo and is home to more than 500 animals representing more than 150 species. </p><p>The zoo includes a newly opened four-acre Rhino Savanna with 12 African species, as well as a giraffe-viewing platform where you may feed the giraffes for an added fee. Visit the <a href="https://sunnylands.org/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener sponsored">Sunnylands</a> Center, an airy glass building with rotating art exhibitions, café, gift shop, and multimedia offerings, and explore its gardens; admission is free. </p><p>For a fee, the historic estate is open for tours (outdoors only for now), and the campus also hosts an array of peaceful outdoor classes and <keyword id="12337190" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="experiences" source="Orion">experiences</keyword>. Park, hike, and then pop over to neighboring Pioneertown for a stop at Pappy &amp; Harriet's for cold beers and live music.</p><p>You can even enjoy the park as a quick pit stop as I recently did. Located just 15 miles southeast of Palm Springs, the <a href="https://indianwellstennisgarden.com/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener sponsored">Indian Wells Tennis Garden</a> is the second-largest tennis stadium in the world, with more than 16,000 seats. Serious fans will want to come for the annual Indian Wells Masters tournament in March (and expect peak hotel prices). Ivanka Trump has listed one of her New York City condos for $4.1 million

<img class="gwt-Image" src="/photo/49493225.cms" style="width: 800px; height: 600px;" />London-based NRI businessmen GP Hinduja and his brother SP Hinduja have been judged the second-most influential Asians in <keyword id="11101" type="COUNTRY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Britain">Britain</keyword>.<br />
<br /> They are next only to UK’s Business Secretary Sajid Javid, in a list of 101 prominent people including <keyword id="8954" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Nobel-Peace-Prize">Nobel Peace prize</keyword> winner <keyword id="1410347" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Malala-Yousafzai">Malala Yousafzai</keyword>. <br />
	Javid, who retains the top slot he won last year, is described as a “determined young man” who has enjoyed a “meteoric rise” since joining politics in 2010, according to the GG2 Power 101 list.

	Priti Patel, Britain’s Indian-origin Minister of State for Employment, emerged as the third most influential Asian followed by steel tycoon Lakshmi Mittal. The list was released at the GG2 Leadership awards dinner on Wednesday night in London.

	<strong>Malala youngest entry</strong>
<br /><br />

	Malala, placed at No 10, is the youngest entry on the list, aged just 18. The Pakistan-born schoolgirl, who was shot by Taliban militants for defending her right to education, is one of 23 women on the list.
<br /><br /> Others in the top 10 are Ameet Gill, British Prime Minister <keyword id="6430216" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="David-Cameron">David Cameron</keyword>’s director of strategy; Labour’s London mayoral hopeful Sadiq Khan; Sir Venkatraman Ramakrishnan, Nobel winner for chemistry and Artist Anish Kapoor. <br /><br />

	The GG2 Power 101 is compiled and published by The Asian Media and Marketing Group.

	At the ceremony, Rakesh Kapoor, CEO of Reckitt Benckiser (RB) won the GG2 Hammer Award.
<br /><br />

	Mr. Kapoor took over the helm of one of U.K.’s most successful and profitable company in 2011, spent four years developing its portfolio and turned it into a $65 billion company.

	Film maker Asif Kapadia, bagged the GG2 Media and Creative Arts Award for his film production company ‘On the Corner.’
<br /><br /> Gaurav Atreja, Consultant Neonatologist, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, won the <keyword id="3109884" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="GG2-Pride-of-Britain-Award">GG2 Pride of Britain Award</keyword>. <br /><br />

	<strong>Woman, Man of the Year</strong>

	Ms. Priti Patel was also declared GG2 Woman of the Year, while Lord Kamlesh Patel emerged as the GG2 Man of the Year.

	Other recipients were Polly Harrar, Chief Executive of the Sharan Project, the first online support network for South Asian women in the U.K. (Spirit in the Community Award); Sandy Rashty, Editor of the Jewish Chronicle (Young Journalist of the Year); Kwai Tsun Staneley Tse, Chairman of SeeWoo Foods Limited (World Food Award).<br />

Hinduja brothers second-most influential Asian people in the UK: GG2 Power 101 list

<img class="gwt-Image" src="/photo/50171333.cms" style="width: 800px; height: 600px;" /><br /> It is a known fact that India’s capital <keyword id="6358777" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="New-Delhi">New Delhi</keyword> is facing a crisis when it comes to <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=delhi+air+pollution">air pollution</a>, to an extent that it was one and a half times worse than the pollution levels in Beijing over the past week.<br />

Recently, an Indiaspend analysis of <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/This-is-how-bad-Delhis-pollution-is-and-its-goingto-get-worse-if-we-do-nothing-about-it/articleshow/50140542.cms">PM 2.5 concentration levels</a> found that "the average weekly PM 2.5 concentration in <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=delhi">Delhi's</a> air was 230.9 micrograms per cubic metre (g/m³), giving it a 'very poor' rating of air quality under the guidelines of the Central Pollution Control Bureau (CPCB). This rating means that it could lead to 'respiratory illness on prolonged exposure'.<br />

Another study by the Kolkata-based Chittaranjan National Cancer Institute (CNCI) shows that nearly half of Delhi’s school children suffer from permanent lung damage while around 10,000 people will die prematurely from air-pollution in Delhi.<br />
<br /> Additionally, the hazardous <keyword id="68139" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Smog">smog</keyword> which engulfed the city in the past few days reducing visibility down to about 200 metres has also forced a handful number of residents to move out of Delhi or atleast contemplate living somewhere which doesn’t resemble ‘living in a gas chamber.’<br />

Even as the dangers of breathing the polluted air looms right in front of the citizens residing in what is being considered as the most polluted cities in the world, why then are they so blithe in taking steps to protect themselves from the choking air?<br />
<br />
Granted, the sale of air purifiers are on the rise with more and more people bringing it in their homes in a bid to chase clean air to breathe, but it should be kept in mind that air purifiers work only indoors, not outdoors.<br />
<br /> <keyword id="3171236" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="anti-pollution-masks">Anti-pollution masks</keyword> are widely considered the easiest way for an individual to protect themselves from not just dust but also contaminants present in the air, but in the city of Delhi, residents using such masks are still a rarity.<br />
<br />
The reason for this is undoubtedly the lack of awareness. Anish Kapoor from Shiva Industries which makes a variety of anti-pollution masks (used even by the Delhi police) available online says that there has been no change in his sales numbers as people are least bothered about masks.<br />
<br />
“Not only are they not aware of the dire consequences of the pollution, but they are also quite unaware of the existence of anti-pollution masks and where to get them. The fact that wearing a mask is not considered ‘cool’ doesn’t help either,” Kapur states.<br />
<br />
The anti-pollution masks are available both online and offline. They can be bought from chemists and from Select City Walk and shops in Khan Market, being judiciously priced from Rs 180 to Rs 750. There are designer varieties as well, which are priced Rs 2,000 onwards.<br />
<br />
According to Vikas Yadav, shopkeeper at Khan Market whose medical store sells about 20-30 masks on a good day, the majority of people who buy them are either people with existing respiratory illness or foreigners.<br />
<br />
“I expected more people to buy the masks considering how difficult breathing has become in the city, but unfortunately sales have been maegre,” Yadav summed up.<br />
<br />
He is of the belief that for the situation to improve, it is imperative that the government takes steps to educate the people on the importance of these masks and the dire effects of the air quality in the city.<br />
