By Mona Parthsarathi New Delhi, Apr 19 () The coronavirus outbreak has brought the global entertainment industry to a standstill, but veteran singer Asha Bhosle says she is hopeful that once normalcy returns showbiz will also recuperate.The 86-year-old playback singer said India is an entertainment loving nation and after the lockdown people will definitely return to movie theatres and music concerts. "This pandemic will affect every industry to an extent. But I feel that once this is over, the entertainment industry will bounce back strongly. Don't forget that we love entertainment and after being in our homes for many weeks, there may be a tendency to go out to the cinemas, attend music concerts."Humans are social animal and we have survived many calamities in the past. We shall do so again," Asha told Bhasha in an interview.Coronavirus, which originated in central China in December, is believed to have infected more than 2.3 million people worldwide. While most recover, at least 155,000 have died, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.In India, death toll due to COVID-19 has risen to 507 and number of cases have climbed to 15,712.The singer said in her lifetime she has witnessed several epidemics like TB , cholera, smallpox, plague, SARS, MERS and the current situation across the world has revived those painful memories."I am 86 and have seen many epidemics. We did not have a cure for them or there just weren't enough medical facilities. We survived by homemade remedies. Plague used to wipe out entire villages. I remember my parents evacuating us from affected parts of the country and moving us to safer zones. It was social distancing at that time too."She said while there were no fancy words like "social distancing" and "lockdown" during those times, it was the same principle which saved them."I have also seen several wars including World War II. There was food rationing and the situation was bad but we adapted and survived those days too. This pandemic is bad because the entire world has been affected," the singer added. Asha believes the only way to win the fight against the deadly virus is to follow the guidelines set by the health experts and the government."This virus is different and more deadly and it requires precautions like self- isolation, social distancing and cleanliness. I am happy with the way Indian government is dealing with the crisis. Considering the population and domestic mobility, it would have been worst," she said.The music icon also lauded celebrities for creating awareness about coronavirus and believes their efforts are giving fruitful results."People look up to celebrities and it is our duty towards them and our country. Almost all celebrities have attempted to spread awareness about the virus and I believe this has helped a lot in making people aware and follow the guidelines."Asha was also part of Sangeet Setu, a series of virtual concerts to support PM-Cares relief fund set up to fight COVID -19. She said it was a unique experience to perform without any technical support."Sangeet Setu was unique initiative because performances came from the heart. Without studio facilities or professional recording equipment, without musicians, sound engineers. I recorded my performances on a phone and uploaded it," she said.The singer, who has been in the industry for over six decades, has also recorded for another initiative to bring people of the country together in these times of crisis."It is to bring together the people of India in this time of need and bring about our sense of pride and nationalism in this great ancient country of ours. As per PM-Cares fund directives I also recorded an appeal for people to donate generously to the fund."With all her recordings and concerts being cancelled, Asha said she is happy to spend time with her family during the lockdown."All my recordings and concerts have been cancelled but I don't dwell on what has been lost. Our culture teaches us to accept and adapt to any situation."So, I am adapting too. I look at the positive side of even this horrid situation, example the entire family is together enjoying the simple things in life," she said.The singer said the pandemic has taught people the importance of human bond and also made them aware of fragility of life."I'm calling and receiving calls from friends who I haven't heard from for many years. I have lost a dear friend in the UK and it drives home the point of how fragile life can be," Asha said."I take each day as it comes and make the most of it. Josh app expands its musical library with 1.3 lakh songs from Saregama in 25 different languages

New Delhi, May 1 () In one of the biggest collaborations by artistes for a noble cause, a group of 100 singers, including the legendary Asha Bhosle, Kumar Sanu and Sonu Nigam have come together to record an anthem for the frontline warriors fighting the coronavirus pandemic and in the aid of PM Cares fund.The anthem 'One Nation One Voice', recorded in 14 different languages, will be dedicated to the nation by Lata Mangeshkar on behalf of Indian Singers Rights Association (ISRA) on May 3.It will be released across over 100 digital platforms such as TV, Radio and on social media.Commenting on the initiative, Bhosle said that singers are the artists who have always expressed the feelings of the public."On this occasion when all of us are fighting against the coronavirus pandemic as 'One Nation' ably led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we 100 singers of the country under ISRA decided to express our love for the nation and dedicate this song as 'One Voice'," she said.The artists, who are a part of the anthem include Asha Bhosle, Anup Jalota, Alka Yagnik, Hariharan, Kailash Kher, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Kumar Sanu, Mahalakshmi Iyer, Mano, Pankaj Udhas, S P Balasubramanian, Shaan, Sonu Nigam, Talat Aziz, Udit Narayan, Shankar Mahadevan, Jasbir Jassi among others.Sanjay Tandon, CEO of ISRA said, "One Nation One Voice in aid of PM Cares is a dedication from ISRA where 100 artists pay tribute to all the people in the forefront of the battle against the coronavirus and all the people at home who have supported the lockdown.""One Nation One voice is not just an anthem but it is a national movement - we have over 100 broadcast, social, amplification and tech platforms supporting the launch," said Sukrit Singh of XP&amp;D BeLive digital platform.The anthem is the brainchild of Nigam, singer Srinivas and Tandon.Nigham said, "It is our collective tribute to the mammoth struggle and effort our government and the entire medical and health workers are putting together in these times of global crisis. New Delhi, June 3 (IANS) Saregama on Wednesday announced a global deal with the social networking giant where Facebook and Instagram users can add music to their posts and stories from Indias oldest music label. The partnership will allow users to choose from a rich catalogue of over 100,000 songs across several different genres including film songs, devotional music, ghazals and indipop in more than 25 languages. People will also be able to add songs to their Facebook Profile. "We are pleased with this partnership as now millions of Facebook users will be able to add music from our vast catalogue to stories and videos they create and share," said Vikram Mehra, Managing Director of Saregama India. Starting from today, people will be able to use music from legends likes Lata Mangeshkar, Kishore Kumar, Mohammed Rafi, Asha Bhosle, Gulzar, Jagjit Singh, R.D Burman, Kalyanji Anandji, Geeta Dutt and Laxmikant Pyarelal, making their experience on the platform more vibrant, personal and engaging. The songs played on flute, tamboura and tabla are winning hearts in the UK. The band gained popularity in the UK when it came up with a new song in 1998 called ‘<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lM7H0ooV_o8">Brimful of Asha</a>.’ The song topped the charts at number one in February 1998 and even displaced Céline Dion’s foghorn Titanic theme, at that time. The album then was dedicated to Indian playback singer Asha Bhosle and was lauded as an indie-rock triumph, as it called Bhosle “Sadi rani”. ‘England is a Garden’ is the first full-length studio album released by Singh and his partner Ben Ayres, after a five year gap. The previous album of Cornershop was ‘Hold On It’s Easy’, which was released back in 2015. Although the band also released ‘Demon is a Monster’ in 2017 to express their anti-Brexit sentiments. ‘England is a Garden’ follows an Indian Bollywood opening, starting with birds singing in their melodious voice in a garden. Tabla and sitar, which adds a mellow flow at the beginning of the music is followed by woodwind instruments that blend the airs of English folk-rock with Indian folk music. A UK origin newspaper daily, Financial Times, called the album “unmanicured” and said in its <a href="https://www.ft.com/content/2f572f8a-5c90-11ea-8033-fa40a0d65a98">review</a> that, “Singh sing-speaks his vocals in the manner of Lou Reed, although gentler in tone,” in the album. Singh grew up listening to Punjabi folk music in Britain, when his father, who was a headmaster back in India, had moved to Britain in 1965. His father used to work on London buses as he trained to become a teacher in the UK. The Bhujhangy Group, a popular bhangra band in Handsworth, England was a favourite band of Singh before being exposed to the Smiths and the Stooges, he said in an interview with <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/music/2020/mar/01/cornershop-tjinder-singh-brexit-morrissey-music-england-garden">The Guardian</a>. The band has been quite vocal about its Anglo-India ties, and it has reflected widely in its albums. Singh during an interview said, “My uncle was in Wolverhampton before us, and he’d said to my dad, come here, it’s all right. But my father said to me once, they’ll not always want you here in this country. That’s always stuck with me. And that’s why our songs have always reflected that right from the start.” The song released on March 6 gained a lot of attention on social media, as many of the listeners tweeted, showing their excitement even before its release.
