 12:00 PM As protests rage on in Delhi over opposing factions over Citizenship Amendment Act, a high level urgent meeting was convened in the national capital to discuss the events. Union Home Minister Amit Shah met representatives of different political parties including Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to appraise them on the status of violence caused by the protests. As many as seven people died in the violence in which also includes a police head constable. The number of injured also rose to 150 as of 12:45 today. The protests which took a new turn late Saturday (Feb 22) in the Maujpur area and raged on as pro and anti CAA clashed with each other. It was reported that some used guns, other pelted stones and some even tried to set a petrol pump on fire. All of North-eastern Delhi remained tense as Section 144 was imposed in the areas of Maujpur, Kardampuri, <keyword id="3354144" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Chand-Bagh">Chand Bagh</keyword> and Dayalpur.areas on Monday. However, the riots and protests went on through Monday night showing little indications of cooling off. Congress president Sonia Gandhi asks Amit Shah to quit over Delhi violence

New Delhi, Jun 30 () The three teams of medical experts constituted by the Union health ministry will conduct regular and surprise inspections at various COVID hospitals in the national capital, officials said. Each of the three teams will have domain experts from the AIIMS, Directorate General of Health Services in the Union health ministry, Delhi government and civic bodies. "The teams will conduct inspections and submit their report for the preceding week to the Secretary, health ministry and Chief Secretary of Delhi every week by 5 pm on next Tuesday," according to an order issued by the Delhi health department on June 29. It said, the Union health ministry on June 14 had constituted the three teams of domain knowledge experts comprising doctors from the All India Institute Of Medical Sciences, Delhi, DGHS (Health Ministry) and the Delhi government, assisted by officers from municipal bodies. The aim is rapid assessment of the existing capacity, patient care amenities and associated aspects of the COVID care facilities under the supervision of the Delhi government in order to have efficient and timely decision-making, the order said. The teams shall perform the work as per the orders of the Supreme Court on June 19, officials said. The order said it is directed that the teams will inspect each of the dedicated COVID hospitals in Delhi, as per the plan, on a weekly basis and also conduct surprise visits, and suggest specific measures for betterment of facilities and patient care services. "The doctors from AIIMS and DGHS are empowered to co-opt other doctors from their institutes or organisation to assist them in this endeavour," it said. First team will inspect nine hospitals, including LNJP Hospital, Max Hospital, Shalimar Bagh and Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, the order said. Health experts teams to do regular, surprise inspections of COVID facilities in Delhi

New Delhi, Jun 11 () There have been complaints of non-availability of beds or denial of treatment to COVID-19 patients in the national capital despite nearly 70 per cent of beds in five designated hospitals run by the Delhi government lying vacant, with experts attributing it to people's aversion towards state-run facilities. As per the latest information shared on 'Delhi Corona' app on Thursday afternoon, more than 3,000 beds are lying vacant in these five dedicated COVID-19 hospitals that have a total capacity of 4,344 beds. However, almost all beds at several big private hospitals are shown to be occupied. Families of many COVID-19 patients, confirmed or suspected, have alleged in the past few weeks that they have been denied admission at many facilities or have not been able to get a bed for their kin. Medical and public health experts feel it may be because of the image associated with government hospitals, related to infrastructure and hygiene conditions, and perhaps shortage of staff. According to the latest data available on 'Delhi Corona' app on Thursday afternoon, a total of 9,444 beds are available in private facilities and hospitals run by the central and Delhi governments. Out of these, 4,371 are vacant. The app shows that beds are available at Delhi government-run hospitals dedicated for COVID-19 treatment such as LNJP Hospital (1,219), GTB Hospital (1,314), Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital or RGSSH (242). However, almost all beds at several big private hospitals are shown to be occupied. At LNJP Hospital, there are a total of 2,000 beds, out of these 781 are occupied. GTB Hospital has total 1,500 beds, only 186 of which are occupied. Even at RGSSH, 258 of the 500 beds are occupied. Beds are available at other dedicated COVID-19 facilities in the national capital too, according to the app. Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital has 94 unoccupied beds out of a total 176 and Satyawadi Raja Harishchandra Hospital has 145 vacant beds out of a total 168. This makes a total of 4,344 COVID-19 beds at these five dedicated Delhi government hospitals, out of which 3,014 or 69.38 per cent are vacant. A senior doctor at the RGSSH said, "We are only admitting very serious COVID-19 patients in the hospital. Those with mild symptoms, or asymptomatic, are either being home quarantined or being sent to COVID Care Centres. Our beds are on stand-by also to accommodate serious patients in case there is a sudden rush." Delhi Heath Minster Satyendar Jain had recently said that some private hospitals could have been denying admission, but the Delhi government-run hospitals have not denied beds to any needy COVID-19 patient. He had also said that main private hospitals are almost full to their capacity in terms of number of COVID-19 beds. According to the app, at prominent private hospitals like Indraprastha Apollo, Max Hospital in Shalimar Bagh, Fortis Hospital in Shalimar Bagh, BL Kapur Hospital are fully occupied. Max Hospital in Saket has a total of 200 beds for COVID-19 patients, and only one is vacant. On June 9, the Delhi government had directed 22 private hospitals in the national capital to dedicate a total of 2,015 extra beds for treatment of coronavirus patients, revising its earlier allocation limit of 20 per cent. Lawyer and public heath activist Ashok Agarwal said infrastructure and hygiene are two main factors, and people still want to "avoid government facilities". "I know of cases, where people were willing to be on waiting list of private hospitals but did not go to a government hospital, even though beds were available," he said. Even those who went to a government hospital for COVID-19 treatment, complained of "dirty toilets, and these being used by multiple patients", Agarwal said. "Also, as the cases erupted successively over the months, many people got scared and were in two minds to go to a government hospital, as admitted patients were making allegations in videos and on social media about lack of proper services. Besides, there is shortage of medical staff at various facilities, and each patient needs to be attended to," he argued. Nearly 70 pc beds vacant in COVID-19 hospitals run by Delhi govt, private facilities almost full

New Delhi, Jun 5 () Delhi Police Friday filed charge sheets in two separate cases in which two brothers were killed in riots that took place in northeast Delhi in February this year. Both the charge sheets for various offences, including murder, criminal conspiracy and rioting, were filed before Metropolitan Magistrate Richa Parihar. In first case, in which one Aqil Ahmed was killed in the violence, 10 accused persons were arrested by the police. The charge sheets was filed for various offences punishable under various sections of Indian Penal Code, including murder (section 302), criminal conspiracy (120-B), rioting (147 and 148), dacoity (395) and destruction of evidence (201), attracting maximum punishment of death penalty. In the second case, the deceased was identified as Musharaff and Delhi Police arrested nine people. Both the deceased were brothers, the Crime Branch of Delhi police said. In the first case, the final report claims that on February 26, at around 09:30 PM, 40-year-old Aqil Ahmed was returning to his home at New Mustafabad and waylaid and murdered by a mob at Jal Board Puliya, Bhagirathi Vihar. "His dead body was thrown in the Johripurdrain. Ahmed was a car Painter/Mechanic by profession and has left wife and four children," the report says. During the investigation in the second case, it was found that on February 25, 2020, "at about 08:00 PM, rioters disconnected the electricity of Bhagirathi Vihar area. In the darkness, mob attacked the house of deceased Musharraf in C Block, Bhagirathi Vihar, grabbed and dragged him out in the street and bludgeoned him to death and thrown his dead body in the open drain". Deceased Musharaff, also 40, used to work as Auto driver/labourer and has left wife and three children, the report said. "Both the places of incident were not covered with any CCTV cameras. Based upon source information, it was revealed that some Hindu men had joined hands on February 25 and 26, post the riots on February 24 in which Muslim mobs had done rioting in which large scale loss of lives and properties of Hindu community had taken place. "The group was identified and some of the group members were picked up. During questioning, it was revealed that on February 25 and 26 a 'WhatsApp' group was created, which had 125 members. Several members of the group were silent in the 'WhatsApp' group. Subsequently, eye-witnesses were identified and examined. Bases upon oral evidences and the chat in the WhatsApp group, the identity of the perpetrators was fixed," the report said. According to police, the rioting started from Kardampuri, Maujpur, Chand Bagh and thereafter at 'Shiv Vihar Tiraha' near DRP School and Rajdhani Public School on February 26, 2020. On February 27, 2020 at about 9:40 am, three dead bodies were recovered from the drain in Johripur. The dead bodies were of un-identified Muslim men. On the same day at about 4:00 PM, another dead body of a Muslim person was recovered at some distance from the three dead bodies in Johripur Nala. Subsequently, four FIRs were registered at Police Station Gokalpuri, Delhi respectively regarding each of the dead bodies. By Gunjan Sharma New Delhi, Apr 7 () With all lessons revised and new stationary bought, 14-year-old Ravi Kumar was ready to spend a relaxed evening before his class 10 board exam the next day when the news of communal violence in northeast Delhi broke, ultimately leading to postponement of the exam by CBSE in affected areas.But, for the students in northeast Delhi, the wait for the exams has become an "test of patience" with it being postponed again, this time due to the coronavirus outbreak, and no clarity emerging yet on when the exams will be held.Rani Kumari says that while trying to concentrate on studies amid the fear of knock on doors during the communal violence over the amended citizenship law that brought northeast Delhi to a standstill, she was confident that "this too shall pass"."It has become an endless wait and now I don't feel like studying too. Earlier I thought that this too shall pass. How much can one study the same thing over and over again? May be I will begin revision when the date sheet is announced," said the class 12 student from Maujpur who wants to join nursing school.Kumar, a resident of Chandbagh, told , "Right from childhood, we are taught that board exams are too crucial and have to be focussed at least two years in advance. It all seems immaterial now, the entire enthusiasm is gone. Bigger than board exams now is this exam of patience."Gagandeep Singh, who lives in Gokalpuri area, said, "I think I will remember how disturbed I was during my class 10 exams all my life. The stress of exams and scoring well seems immaterial now, when we are facing riots and global pandemic."In February, the northeast part of the national capital was rocked by violence in which 53 people were killed and over 200 injured. The areas worst affected in the violence included Jaffrabad, Maujpur, Chand Bagh, Khureji Khas and Bhajanpura.In view of the violence, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) had postponed exams at over 80 centres in northeast Delhi area till February 29.The exams were, however, conducted as per original schedule from March 2 onwards as board officials opined that any further delay in conducting exams will affect the students' prospects in undergraduate admissions.The board had announced a fresh schedule, according to which class 12 exams in the area were supposed to begin on March 31 and conclude on April 14, while exams for class 10 were scheduled from March 21 to March 30.However, the exams had to be again postponed in view of the coronavirus outbreak its resultant 21-day nationwide lockdown.According to board officials, students will be given a 10-day notice before exams are conducted when the lockdown is lifted.The death toll due to novel coronavirus rose to 114 and the number of cases in the country climbed to 4,421 on Tuesday, according to the Union Health Ministry. For three days now, India’s national capital has been the centre of violence and communal clashes, with mobs running wild on the streets and Muslim-majority areas under attack. Localities like Chand Bagh, Bhajanpura, Maujpur-Babarpur, and Jaffrabad are witnessing the most violence. Srivastava’s appointment came in place as the rapid rise in death toll shocked the nation. Currently, as many as 17 people have died as mobs attacked each other with guns, petrol bombs, stones and iron rods. Over 150 have been brought injured to GTB Hospital, and fire services and ambulances are running furiously all over the city for two days now. Right after his appointment, Srivastava attended an emergency meeting with the Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Srivastava was called out from the Central Reserve Police Force to take over in Delhi. He held the position of Special Director General (Training). Since his appointment as the Special Commissioner, a shoot-at-sight order was issued in Yamuna Vihar on Tuesday night. Late in the night on Tuesday, Patnaik along with National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval reached Seelampur in North East Delhi to take stock of the situation. Early in the morning on Wednesday, water cannons were sprayed by the Delhi police on protestors who had gathered in front of the Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence. Srivastava is from the 1985 batch of AGMUT cadre – a common cadre for Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram and union territories. He is a batchmate of the incumbent Delhi police commissioner Patnaik. In 2017, he was also considered to be in the running for the <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/delhi/1985-batch-ips-man-new-tihar-boss/articleshow/60888285.cms">Director General</a> position of the Tihar Jail but was reportedly not keen on the job. Srivastava is known for being a hard taskmaster with a no nonsense approach. In 2015, Srivastava held the position as Chief of Delhi Police’s elite anti-terror unit but was transferred to the Recruitment Cell and Delhi Armed Police 3rd Battalion. His transfer had come at a time when he was being criticised for the arrest of Liaquat Shah. I have been left helpless due to the situation. it is our hard earned money." Another depositor, <keyword id="8827022" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="tajinder-pal-singh-gujral">Tajinder Pal Singh Gujral</keyword>, a resident of Janakpuri, had deposited Rs 2.5 crore in the bank after he sold his house, a day before the bank shut down in September. "I had sold off my house and the payment from that deal had come into my account with the PMC bank. I had booked another house and given Rs 5 lakh as down payment and was supposed to pay for it from the PMC account. But, now, those Rs 5 lakh are also gone and this money is also stuck. I cannot buy a house or do anything for my business," he said. The bank, over a long period of time, had given over Rs 6,500 crore in loans to HDIL, which is 73 per cent of its total advances, and which has turned sour with a shift in the fortunes of the now bankrupt company.
