As Walmart scales in India, the company will continue to partner to create sustained economic growth across agriculture, food and retail. Future investments will support national initiatives and will bring sustainable benefits to the country,” a Walmart spokesperson told <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/services/retail/morgan-stanley-warns-walmart-may-exit-flipkart-post-new-fdi-rules/articleshow/67843595.cms">ET.</a><br /><br />India’s new e-commerce rules have introduced tighter guidelines that govern Indian e-commerce companies. With the new rules, global players like Amazon or the Walmart-Flipkart entity, are barred from selling products from vendors they have own a stake in.<br /><br />According to the Morgan Stanley report, Flipkart will have to do away with 25% of its products on the platform. <br /><br />The new rules have mounted tremendous pressure on both Amazon and Flipkart, which together command over <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/small-biz/startups/newsbuzz/amazon-india-reportedly-closing-in-on-flipkart/articleshow/63407725.cms">60%</a> of the market share in Indian e-commerce. Walmart could exit from Flipkart because of India’s new FDI rules: Report

Indian e-commerce players such as <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=flipkart&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Flipkart</a>, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=amazon&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Amazon</a> will not be able to comply with few of the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=fdi+in+marketplaces&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">government’s new guidelines for the marketplaces</a>.<br />

They will not be able to meet the recent regulation to cap any vendor on their platforms at 25 per cent of total sales.<br />
<br />
"It is an accounting issue that normally has to be collated at the end of the fiscal year. The 25 per cent data can be given over a period of time and not immediately," ET quoted sources as saying.<br />

The 25 per cent rule has left many startup owners in lurch, especially those who have over 25 per cent threshold on their portfolio.<br />

For instance, Amazon India’s one of the largest vendors is Cloudtail.<br />
<br />
"We would not like to speculate on the share of Cloudtail or any other seller till we close our books for the year and given how recent the Press Note 3 is. We will put a process in place to inform sellers in case they are close to or likely to breach the 25 per cent guidance," an Amazon India spokesperson said in an emailed reply to ET.<br />
<br /> <keyword id="6354742" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Flipkart">Flipkart</keyword> is reported to trim the contribution of WS Retail in next one year to meet the new guidelines.<br />
<br /> Meanwhile, <keyword id="541988" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="SnapDeal">Snapdeal</keyword> is meeting the 25 per cent norm.<br />

"Snapdeal has nearly 300,000 sellers from across India. Given the span and depth of our seller base, even the bigger ones account for much less than the 25 per cent threshold mandated for any single seller," Snapdeal spokesperson told ET. <br />

Flipkart, Amazon may not meet new guidelines for marketplaces this year. Here’s why

New Delhi, Jan 15 () Jeff Bezos, the world's richest man, on Wednesday shared with Indian small and medium businesses his insights on taking risks to start a company, besides talking about his plans for space venture and how Amazon was the best place in the world to fail.
<p>"Amazon is the best place in the world to fail...and the reason for that is we have a lot of practice," Bezos said during his chat session with Amazon India country head Amit Agarwal at SMB-focussed Amazon SMBhav here.
</p><p>Stating that he believes failures through experiments can sometimes lead to innovation of new things, Bezos also pointed out that operational excellence failures exist and those should be avoided.
</p><p>"Nobody likes to fail... failure, even when you know it's important and good, it's embarrassing. It doesn't feel good. We're all human. We had a good idea. We thought it was a good idea, and nobody came to the party. That happens. And here's the great thing, though. One success, one winner can pay for dozens and dozens of failures," he said.
</p><p>Bezos, who is in India this week, said he had flown kites with few children and had enjoyed the time. He spoke about spending summers at his grandfather's ranch from age four through 16.
</p><p>"I have learnt so much from my grandfather, and I think it is true of many people in rural areas, they are very resourceful and very self-reliant. That really made a big impression on me," he told an enwrapped audience comprising hundreds of small and medium business owners.
</p><p>The two-day SMBhav event will see business leaders like Infosys co-founder NR Narayana Murthy and Future Group's Kishore Biyani.
</p><p>The event kicked off late, which seemed to irk Murthy, who was to deliver his address at the event on Wednesday morning.
</p><p>He started his address saying the event was delayed by more than an hour and a half, and therefore, he was paraphrasing his talk as he is "not used to delays".
</p><p>During his speech, he praised Bezos for his comment that 21st century will be India's century and said it would be the responsibility of people here to make that prediction come true.
</p><p>"Nearly 85 per cent of India's business output comes from the unorganised sector, about 10 per cent from SMBs (small and medium businesses) and probably 5 per cent from large companies. Therefore, you do play an extremely important role in making 21st century as India's century," he said, adding good work ethic and values are also critical.
</p><p>Amazon has stake in Cloudtail, a joint venture between Amazon and Murthy's Catamaran Ventures.
</p><p>Sporting a blue Nehru jacket, Bezos talked about his interest in rockets and rocket propulsion, and how that has influenced his decision to start his space venture Blue Origin.
</p><p>Asserting that the cost of access to space needs to be lowered, Bezos said: "Long term, if we have to grow our civilisation, we have to use resources in the solar system. We need space entrepreneurs".
</p><p>From a stable job in 1994 in New York City, Bezos came up with the idea of selling books online.
</p><p>"I went to my boss, Davis, whom I liked a lot. I went to him and told him that I had this idea to start a company that would sell books on the internet. He took me on a long walk in Central Park in New York and listened to me in great detail. He said it sounds like a great idea to me but I think it would be a better idea for someone who didn't already have a good job," Bezos said.
</p><p>He told the audience that he did not want to have any regrets because of the decision he was to take.
</p><p>"I pictured myself 80 years old and thinking back on my life at a quite moment of reflection. Would I regret leaving this company in the middle of the year and walking away from my annual bonus?...What I did know is that I had this great Idea, and if I don't try, I will regret never having tried. And I know also, that if I try and fail, I'll never regret having tried and failed," he said.
</p><p>Bezos embarked on the journey and has since then scaled the Seattle-headquartered Amazon to become a 7,00,000-people strong organisation.
</p><p>Asked what he would have done if things hadn't worked out, Bezos said: "I would be an extremely happy software programmer somewhere".
</p>He also advised the businesses that they should ensure they hire the right people from whom they can also learn new things.  SR  SR BAL

Among 100 firms, Amazon emerged as the top recruiter at the IIM Ahmedabad with 18 offers, as the institute's final round of placements came to an end.<br />

Consulting firms, such as Accenture Strategy, Bain &amp; Company, McKinsey &amp; Company and The Boston Consulting Group, made the highest number of offers. Following Amazon was McKinsey &amp; Company; it made 15 offers.<br />
<br />
Among global banks, Goldman Sachs was the largest recruiter, picking nine students. In sales and marketing, Hindustan Unilever made seven offers followed by Procter &amp; Gamble, SC Johnson and Samsung, with six offers each. With 10 offers, TAS was the largest recruiter in the general management sector.<br />
<br />
Twenty-firms from other sectors such as fast-moving consumer goods, agricultural inputs, bank, financial services and insurance, food production and plantation extended 50 offers. Of these, Godrej and TGI were recruiters, hiring eight and four students each.<br />
<br />
According to Asha Kaul, chairperson, placements committee, IIM-A, there were more than 40 new recruiters this year.<br />
<br />
Among first-time recruiters were Pioneering Ventures, PepsiCo, Flourish Foods and Tilvila. Regular recruiters such as YES Bank, ADM, Reckitt Benckiser and Amazon–Cloudtail reaffirmed their confidence in the programme and placement process.<br />
<br />
Offering students flexibility and choice to build careers in sectors of their preference, IIM-A continued to provide this year the facility of making “dream” applications to firms of their choice in a subsequent cluster even with an offer in hand. This year, 110 such “dream” applications being made in this way.<br />
<br />
Apart from consulting, Citibank, Credit Suisse, Deutsche Bank, Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan, Kotak IB and Standard Chartered also took part in the placements process.<br />
<br />
This year, seven students also opted out of the placements process to work on their own ventures, under the guidance and mentorship of Centre for Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship.

Even after waiting for a month to discuss things with the working committee appointed by the <keyword id="6361265" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Central-Board-of-Excise-and-Customs">Central Board of Excise and Customs</keyword> (<keyword id="117272" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="CBEC">CBEC</keyword>), online marketplaces are still not clear about the final set of rules that the goods and services tax (GST) Council has announced on Saturday. <br /> <br /> While on one hand the marketplaces and sellers are relieved because of the increase in input tax credit, there lies abundant confusion over about taxation structure for returns, even as GST is set to be rolled out in less than a month. <br /> <br /> Sellers registered on online marketplaces <keyword id="6354742" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Flipkart">Flipkart</keyword> and Amazon India say that these companies have asked brands to take back their stocks from fulfilment centres since GST will be revamping the taxation structure, and they might face an additional tax liability. However, since sellers are not clear about transitional gains and losses under GST, they are forced to clear their stocks through discounts. <br /> <br /> "Despite the input tax credit, we will have to shell out 7% of the tax from our pockets," an online seller told <a href="http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/small-biz/startups/gst-return-policy-sends-online-marketplaces-into-a-tizzy/articleshow/58994239.cms">ET</a>. "The brands have been supportive with whom we have exclusivity for certain online marketplaces. They will help us in billing the goods to sister entities of online marketplaces through which they can be sold," he pointed out, adding that he has sold old stock to WS Retail and Cloudtail India, largest sellers on the online marketplaces Flipkart and Amazon India, respectively. <br /> <br /> "The finance secretary also added that for sellers who don't have an excise invoice but have a credit transfer document from manufacturer where the goods can be identified through model number, will get 100% input tax credit where value is more than Rs 25,000. In case of items attracting GST of 18% and above, the deemed credit is increased from 40 to 60%. <p>When researchers try to study the leopards in Malaysia they have a hard time telling the cats apart because instead of the amazing spotted coloring of a normal leopard, these leopards have a completely black coat ... or so it seems.</p><p>Using images caught with infrared light, just published <a href="http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/jwmg.901/abstract">in The Journal of Wildlife Management</a>, researchers at the James Cook University in Australia unveiled the black leopard's amazing spots.</p><p>Much like each human fingerprint is different, or each zebra has different stripes, a leopard's spots are unique and scientists can use their patterns to identify individual animals.</p><p>If you look at the black leopards, or visit them in zoos, your eyes might catch spots hidden underneath their black coats.
