In the ongoing <keyword id="6387088" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="campus-placement" source="Orion">campus placement</keyword> season in the <keyword id="55119" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Institute-of-Technology" source="Orion">Indian Institute of Technology</keyword> (<keyword id="108320" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="iit-kanpur" source="Orion">IIT Kanpur</keyword>), a total of 49 offers above ₹1 crore were received in the first eight days. "In the first eight days, the institute received 47 international offers. This is a big jump of 150 per cent over last year when 19 international offers were received. The highest packages so far are USD 274,250 for international and ₹1.2 crore for domestic," an official statement said. The top recruiters are Axtria, EXL, Graviton, Goldman Sachs, <keyword id="6653" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="icici-bank" source="Orion">ICICI Bank</keyword>, Intel, Microsoft, OLA, Rubrik, Samsung, Quadeye, Uber, Tiger Analytics, among others. "IIT Kanpur has witnessed excellent hiring trends across sectors this time. The numbers are very encouraging and much higher than the previous years. This growing trust the recruiters are bestowing upon the institute and its students is reflective of IIT Kanpur's resolution to thrive for excellence," the IIT-K spokesperson said. IIT Kanpur gets 49 offers above ₹1 crore

According to Bar &amp; Bench, the Chief Justice of India Sharad Arvind Bobde-led bench has sought a reply from the Competition Commission of India (CCI). During the court <a href="https://www.devdiscourse.com/article/technology/1358278-sc-stays-nclat-order-for-cci-probe-against-flipkart">proceedings</a> on December 2, 2020, Senior Advocate Harish Salve representing Flipkart said that Amazon being a competitor, is not a dominant player, which means that predatory pricing doesn’t apply to Flipkart as well. He said, “predatory pricing is an issue to be considered against the dominant player as a case of abuse of power but his client has not been held as a dominant player.” Salve added that the “CCI didn’t look at the findings of the Government and instead relied on the tax department findings, thus misread the findings of the tax tribunal.” The NCLAT order from March had allowed the CCI to launch a probe against the e-commerce giant. The order was based on the allegations made by All India Online Vendors’ Association (AIOVA). The Indian e-commerce giant has often come under scrutiny, along with its US-based rival Amazon, for predatory pricing, deep discounts and more, from India’s various trade associations. An e-commerce policy from the Indian government is still in the works to regulate India’s booming e-commerce sector. The case so far: Flipkart vs AIOVA The AIOVA had moved the CCI in March 2018 and stated that “that small vendors have become allies of the big vendors and suppliers to leading sellers such as Cloudtail, WS Retail etc. on the Flipkart and Amazon platforms, rather than selling directly to consumers through the online e-commerce marketplace sites.” CCI had then absolved Flipkart of any such allegations. “...looking at the present market construct and structure of online marketplace platforms market in India, it does not appear that any one player in the market is commanding any dominant position at this stage of evolution of the market,” the order had said then. Following the plea to CCI, the AIOVA had moved the NCLAT in January 2019.

New Delhi, Jan 15 () Jeff Bezos, the world's richest man, on Wednesday shared with Indian small and medium businesses his insights on taking risks to start a company, besides talking about his plans for space venture and how Amazon was the best place in the world to fail.
"Amazon is the best place in the world to fail...and the reason for that is we have a lot of practice," Bezos said during his chat session with Amazon India country head Amit Agarwal at SMB-focussed Amazon SMBhav here.
Stating that he believes failures through experiments can sometimes lead to innovation of new things, Bezos also pointed out that operational excellence failures exist and those should be avoided.
"Nobody likes to fail... failure, even when you know it's important and good, it's embarrassing. It doesn't feel good. We're all human. We had a good idea. We thought it was a good idea, and nobody came to the party. That happens. And here's the great thing, though. One success, one winner can pay for dozens and dozens of failures," he said.
Bezos, who is in India this week, said he had flown kites with few children and had enjoyed the time. He spoke about spending summers at his grandfather's ranch from age four through 16.
"I have learnt so much from my grandfather, and I think it is true of many people in rural areas, they are very resourceful and very self-reliant. That really made a big impression on me," he told an enwrapped audience comprising hundreds of small and medium business owners.
The two-day SMBhav event will see business leaders like Infosys co-founder NR Narayana Murthy and Future Group's Kishore Biyani.
The event kicked off late, which seemed to irk Murthy, who was to deliver his address at the event on Wednesday morning.
He started his address saying the event was delayed by more than an hour and a half, and therefore, he was paraphrasing his talk as he is "not used to delays".
During his speech, he praised Bezos for his comment that 21st century will be India's century and said it would be the responsibility of people here to make that prediction come true.
"Nearly 85 per cent of India's business output comes from the unorganised sector, about 10 per cent from SMBs (small and medium businesses) and probably 5 per cent from large companies. Therefore, you do play an extremely important role in making 21st century as India's century," he said, adding good work ethic and values are also critical.
Amazon has stake in Cloudtail, a joint venture between Amazon and Murthy's Catamaran Ventures.
Sporting a blue Nehru jacket, Bezos talked about his interest in rockets and rocket propulsion, and how that has influenced his decision to start his space venture Blue Origin.
Asserting that the cost of access to space needs to be lowered, Bezos said: "Long term, if we have to grow our civilisation, we have to use resources in the solar system. We need space entrepreneurs".
From a stable job in 1994 in New York City, Bezos came up with the idea of selling books online.
"I went to my boss, Davis, whom I liked a lot. I went to him and told him that I had this idea to start a company that would sell books on the internet. He took me on a long walk in Central Park in New York and listened to me in great detail. He said it sounds like a great idea to me but I think it would be a better idea for someone who didn't already have a good job," Bezos said.
He told the audience that he did not want to have any regrets because of the decision he was to take.
"I pictured myself 80 years old and thinking back on my life at a quite moment of reflection. Would I regret leaving this company in the middle of the year and walking away from my annual bonus?...What I did know is that I had this great Idea, and if I don't try, I will regret never having tried. And I know also, that if I try and fail, I'll never regret having tried and failed," he said.
Bezos embarked on the journey and has since then scaled the Seattle-headquartered Amazon to become a 7,00,000-people strong organisation.
Asked what he would have done if things hadn't worked out, Bezos said: "I would be an extremely happy software programmer somewhere".
He also advised the businesses that they should ensure they hire the right people from whom they can also learn new things. SR SR BAL

They will not be able to meet the recent regulation to cap any vendor on their platforms at 25 per cent of total sales. 
 
"It is an accounting issue that normally has to be collated at the end of the fiscal year. The 25 per cent data can be given over a period of time and not immediately," ET quoted sources as saying.

The 25 per cent rule has left many startup owners in lurch, especially those who have over 25 per cent threshold on their portfolio. 
 
For instance, Amazon India’s one of the largest vendors is Cloudtail. 
 
"We would not like to speculate on the share of Cloudtail or any other seller till we close our books for the year and given how recent the Press Note 3 is. We will put a process in place to inform sellers in case they are close to or likely to breach the 25 per cent guidance," an Amazon India spokesperson said in an emailed reply to ET. 
 <keyword id="6354742" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Flipkart">Flipkart</keyword> is reported to trim the contribution of WS Retail in next one year to meet the new guidelines. 
 Meanwhile, <keyword id="541988" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="SnapDeal">Snapdeal</keyword> is meeting the 25 per cent norm. 
 
"Snapdeal has nearly 300,000 sellers from across India. Given the span and depth of our seller base, even the bigger ones account for much less than the 25 per cent threshold mandated for any single seller," Snapdeal spokesperson told ET.
