Even in this age of jet travel and space tourism, highways hold an irresistible charm for travellers out to have an up, close and personal experience of the wide roads stretching ahead for miles, uninterrupted views of a breathtaking landscape, the occasional flyways and the not-so-familiar villages and towns rushing by. It’s even better than chugging along the countryside in a train. Infrastructure development in India has undergone a sea change over the past few years and the country currently boasts the <keyword id="2034191" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Second-largest-road-network">second largest road network</keyword> in the world, with a road length of over 4,689,842 km, as per 2013 data from the <keyword id="6404450" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ministry-of-Road-Transport-and-Highways">Ministry of Road Transport and Highways</keyword>. 
 Starting from FY2012-13, the <keyword id="44734" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Indian-Government">Indian government</keyword> will be also putting $17 billion over the next five years, being sourced through public-private partnership (<keyword id="6361580" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="PPP">PPP</keyword>) road projects. This will be used by the <keyword id="87432" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="National-Highways-Authority-of-India">National Highways Authority of India</keyword> (<keyword id="49448" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="nhai">NHAI</keyword>) for the planned series of <keyword id="174913" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="BOT">BOT</keyword> (build, operate and transfer) highways. In spite of several bottlenecks, the NHAI has set up impressive targets and aims to develop 20 km/day, in a bid to fast-track the country’s <keyword id="2034194" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Road-network-expansion">road network expansion</keyword>. 
 As of July 2013, <keyword id="6373156" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="National-Highways">national highways</keyword> account for 79,116 km, connecting all major cities and state capitals. Expressways, however, differ a bit in the sense they are controlled-access highways like the <keyword id="610047" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="freeways">freeways</keyword> or <keyword id="1333990" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="motorways">motorways</keyword> or autobahnen in the US and Europe, essentially designed for high-speed traffic. As of now, most of the expressways in India are 6-8 lane <keyword id="120837" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="toll-roads">toll roads</keyword> and cover a total distance of nearly 1,208.19 km. India expects to add another 3,530 km of expressways by 2014 as projects under construction get completed. Another massive programme is also under way to expand the network and the Indian government plans to add an additional 18,637 km of expressways by 2022.

8 Super Expressways
In North India That Fulfil Your Need For Speed

If all goes well, Delhi might soon be connected to Jaipur through a super expressway. This will reduce the travel time drastically. Highways minister Nitin Gadkari announced this at Dausa in Rajasthan. 
 
The distance between Delhi and Jaipur is 260 km. The proposed super expressway, between the outskirts of Gurgaon and Jaipur, will cover 200 km. It will be impossible to cover this distance in 90 minutes sticking to the notified speed limit, which is 100 kmph for expressways in India (for highways it's 90). Gadkari said the government will notify different speed limits for such super expressways, according to a news report by The Times of India. 
 
Presently it takes almost 6 hours to reach Jaipur. While Haryana government has cleared lands, Gadkari urged Vasundhara Raje to sort out lands in Rajasthan. 
 
G adkari told TOI in Delhi that the present speed limit was fixed at 100 kmph as the country has very few expressways. "We will revise the maximum speed limit. The proposed expressway will take off from the outskirts of Gurgaon and join Jaipur Ring Road (on the outer periphery of the city). We expect this total stretch to be around 200 km. Since it will be access controlled, one can maintain high speed all along the expressway," he said.

New Delhi, Apr 22 () The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday said it has attached assets, worth Rs 51.86 lakh, of a company in connection with a money laundering case linked to an alleged bank fraud in Haryana.It said a provisional order for attachment of the properties, in the form of commercial property in Gurgaon and bank balances, has been issued under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) against the company -- Green Valley Plywood Limited.The agency alleged that the company and its promoter Jagmohan Kejriwal had siphoned off Rs 70.49 crore bank loan amount by devolving letter of credit by showing fictitious sales and purchase with the help of several entities.These entities were providing a platform to Green Valley Plywood Limited for money laundering, the ED said."Probe revealed that out of the total inflow and outflow of these fictitious sale and purchase transactions, Rs 51.86 lakh was retained by seven entities named Global Interiors Ltd, Vikas Globalone Ltd, Vikas Polymers (India), Moonlite Technochem Pvt. Ltd, Shubham Chemicals and Solvents Pvt Ltd, Chemical Connection and Uniply Industries Ltd as commission for providing such platform for money laundering by layering of proceeds of crime," the ED said in a statement. This amount, retained by these seven entities, has now been attached by the ED, it said.The total value of the seized assets is Rs 51.86 lakh.Further investigation to identify the remaining proceeds of crime is going on, the probe agency said. Bank loan fraud: ED attaches assets worth Rs 52 lakh

Tata Motors has finished a difficult Covid-19 year, with good news. In the month of March 2021, its monthly sales went up by 9% all because of three of its super performers - <keyword id="7364349" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="tata-altroz">Tata Altroz</keyword>, <keyword id="3252269" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Tiago">Tata Tiago</keyword> and <a href="https://www.carandbike.com/tata-cars/nexon" data-type="tilCustomLink">Tata Nexon</a>, according to research reports. These three BS6 compliant cars which were launched in quick succession, belong to its New Forever range which includes SUVs, sedans and hatchbacks. The New Forever range includes two more cars - <a href="https://www.carandbike.com/tata-cars/tigor" data-type="tilCustomLink">Tata Tigor</a> and Tata Harrier, and these cars with ‘refreshed personas’ claim to offer better driving dynamics and improved comfort. The range helped the company its best ever monthly sales in nine years, all thanks to these new launches. “The passenger vehicle (PV) industry witnessed a strong growth in the fourth quarter of 2020-21 on a low base with robust demand for personal mobility and new launches driving demand. Tata Motors PV business posted its highest ever sales in nine years, in March 21 and fourth quarter of 2020-21. In 2020-21, the business registered its highest ever annual sales in eight years, while posting a growth of 69% versus 2019-20,” said Shailesh Chandra, President, Passenger Vehicles Business Unit, Tata Motors in a press release. Refreshed designs Many Indian car sellers have been launching new models and new versions of older models due to compliance to new BS6 norms brought in by the government. Tata Motors too had made changes in compliance and engines, the top three performers of the range boast of refreshed designs as well. One feature of the new versions is the best-in-class infotainment system like Android Auto and Apple Car play connectivity in Tata Tiago, the new <keyword id="2055885" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Nexon">Tata Nexon</keyword> features an electric sunroof, electronic stability programme along with connected car technology. Tata Altroz retains its ‘safest car in the segment’ tag in the new version with bigger steel rims around its body, an improved infotainment system, steering mounted controls - all indicating that Tata Motors has made it a point to move with times. Spike the market share In spite of new challengers in the market in the SUV segment like <keyword id="109790" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kia-Motors">Kia Motors</keyword> and MG with attractively priced offerings, Tata Motors was able to hold its own. Over the year, the market share of Tata Motors in Indian passenger vehicle business has increased to 8% from 5% a year back. This could be described as a turnaround since the company had lost market share in the last year. “The turnaround has been led by a richer product portfolio, higher marketing spends, better dealer incentive structure and focussed actions in micro markets. With the recent launch of <keyword id="595044" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="tata-safari">Tata Safari</keyword> and the sub-compact SUV Hornbill in the pipeline, we expect the PV business to further improve its scale,” said a research report by Ambit Insights. The company also seems keen on keeping the momentum going as it launched ten new state-of-the-art full-range passenger vehicle showrooms in Delhi NCR, which includes seven in Delhi, two in Gurgaon and one in Faridabad. “Our ‘New Forever’ range of products continue to witness strong acceptance in the market and the addition of new network operations across the country will provide a holistic customer experience – both online &amp; offline, as we cater to their evolving needs,” said Rajan Amba – Vice President, Sales, Marketing &amp; Customer Care, PVBU, Tata Motors, in a press release.

The fancy villas with infinity pool or a private gymnasium in Gurgaon or those luxury apartments in the Pune that boast of a big closet, mahogany furniture and Italian floorings, <keyword id="386983" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Luxury-homes">luxury homes</keyword> across the country has certainly been able to beat the slump in the Indian realty market. Catering the crème de la crème of the country, the luxury homes segment has ‘surpassed expectations, which were modest at best this year”. 
 “The times have changed more and more Indians are now travelling abroad regularly, and getting a taste of what the high life means in other countries. Consequently, their expectations now extend quite a bit beyond just a fancy town-side address. Though the address is still important, luxury home buyers now also expect to buy into a lifestyle that, by definition, only a few in the world can afford to have,” says Ashwinder Raj Singh, CEO of Residential Services at <keyword id="484198" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="JLL-India">JLL India</keyword>. 
 
The growing desire to live in fancy houses with the best in comfort has divided this segment in sub categories. BI India takes a look at them. 
 
Super luxury 
 
This category of homes is for uber-rich buyers who want nothing but the best. Mediterranean architecture- style interiors, a private gym, swimming pools, gardens and home automation are just a few things that this class of buyers wants. 
 
“Whether or not half of the facilities and technological embellishments they seek are available in the country or not is immaterial - today's Indian luxury home buyers are willing and able to pay for having them imported, and builders are happy to comply. The desire to stand out and be 'a cut above the rest' is creating a demand for super-luxurious homes wherein price is not a constraint,” say Singh. 
 
The prices of these properties vary from city to city, depending upon the average income levels of the buyers. 
 
Price tags: Anywhere between Rs 40 crore and Rs 100 crore in mega cities such as Delhi and Mumbai to Rs 2 crore to Rs 5 crore in Hyderabad and Kolkata. 
 
Branded Homes 
 
These are typically built by developers who expertise in building projects for the masses. But since, luxury homes are the hot cakes, hence, they too want a share of the pie. The developer ties-up with global realty builders who have experience in building luxury homes. 
 
“Apart from the knowhow, such brands also bring with them an aspirational value that immediately connects with the super-rich. The experience and brand equity advantage inherent in associating with major brands gives a developer's luxury project an extra edge,” notes Singh. 
 
And what do buyers get? Well, they are getting the rich international experience of luxury with an exotic label at an extravagant location! 
 
Out of the entire lot of luxury homes, branded luxury homes have been the most profitable proposition for both buyers and developers. 
 “Branded luxury homes are especially in vogue with <keyword id="58225" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="NRIs">NRIs</keyword> and PIO HNI investors, who prefer such properties for the simple reason that they get an assurance of the quality of services which they are used to in their adopted countries. Also, with the backing of a well-known brand, they can expect better returns on their investments which are better than the prevailing market rates,” says Singh. 
 
Price tags: Anywhere between Rs 12 crore to Rs 25 crore in Delhi and Mumbai to Rs 1 crore- Rs 4 crore in Hyderabad and Kolkata. 
 
Affordable Luxury 
 
These are for the cattle class people who are rising above the line and are now viewed as ‘the aspiring luxury home buyers’. Singh tells us home buyers in this segment get most of the amenities that any super luxury home buyer gets; however, the spin is that they are shared. 
 
“The 'a class above' ethos still comes through, but the residents of such affordable luxury projects are definitely not rubbing shoulders with the city's richest and most influential people at 'snob value' addresses,” he says. 
 
A high salaried professional who belongs to the upper middle class and has never had any prior experience of luxury generally forms the core target audience of this segment. Hence, the onus of giving them the luxury experience lies on the developers. 
 
“In the considerably rarefied stratosphere of super-luxury, everything takes place at a more languid pace befitting of the 'idle rich' ethos. Exclusive super-luxury homes take longer to be built and also to be sold. This is a high investment arena wherein exclusive customizations are the norm, and both developers and buyers take their time to ensure that the deal results in complete satisfaction to all involved,” he adds. 
 
Price tags: Anywhere between Rs 10 crore to Rs 25 crore in Delhi and Mumbai to Rs 60 lakh- Rs 2 crore in Kolkata and Hyderabad.
