The labour ministry in a statement said that the addition of 18.75 lakh during the month is the highest since the first publishing of <keyword id="6728095" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="EPFO-payroll-data" source="Orion">EPFO payroll data</keyword> from April 2018 covering the period of September 2017 onwards. A growing trend has continued for the last three months with an increase of around 85,932 net members over the previous month of June 2023. The data indicates that around 10.27 lakh new members have enrolled during July 2023 which is the highest since July 2022. The majority of new members joining EPFO are in the age group of 18-25 years constituting roughly 58.45 per cent of total new members additions during the month. This shows an increasing trend in youth enrollment, who are mostly first-time job seekers joining the organized sector workforce of the country, it explained. The payroll data demonstrates that approximately 12.72 lakh members exited but rejoined EPFO, which is the highest in the last 12 months. These members switched their jobs and re-joined the establishments covered under EPFO and opted to transfer their accumulations instead of applying for final settlement thus, extending their social security protection. Gender-wise analysis of payroll data shows that during July 2023 around 3.86 lakh net female members have been added to the payroll. Around 2.75 lakh female members have come under the ambit of social security coverage for the first time. State-wise analysis of payroll data denotes that net member addition is the highest in the five states of Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Gujarat and Haryana. These states constitute around 58.78 per cent of net member addition, adding a total of 11.02 lakh members during the month. Of all the states, Maharashtra is leading by adding 20.45 per cent of net members during the month. Month-on-month comparison of industry-wise data displays significant growth in the members working in establishments engaged in Trading-Commercial Establishments, Building &amp; Construction Industry, Electrical, Mechanical and General Engineering Products. This was followed by Textiles, Financing Establishment, Hospitals etc. Of the total net membership, around 38.40 per cent addition is from expert services (consisting of manpower suppliers, normal contractors, security services, miscellaneous activities etc.). The above payroll data is provisional since the data generation is a continuous exercise, as updating employee records is a continuous process. The previous data hence gets updated every month. From the month of April 2018, EPFO has been releasing payroll data covering the period from September 2017 onwards. In monthly payroll data, the count of members joining EPFO for the first time through an Aadhaar-validated Universal Account Number (UAN), existing members exiting from coverage of EPFO and those who exited but re-joining as members, is taken to arrive at the net monthly payroll.

An increase of 11.97 per cent has been registered in net member addition during December 2023 compared to the previous month, a labour ministry statement said. EPFO adds a net 15.62 lakh members in Dec; 8.41 lakh new subscribers join workforce

Retirement fund body <keyword id="6372438" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="epfo" source="Orion">EPFO</keyword> recorded a net new women subscribers addition of 28,69,688 in FY23 against 15,93,614 in 2019-20, showing a rise in employment through the pandemic, Parliament was informed on Thursday. The net addition in Employees' Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) subscriptions is an indicator of the extent of job creation/formalisation of the job market and the coverage of social security benefits to the organised/ semi-organised sector workforce, said Minister of State for Labour &amp; Employment <keyword id="2662077" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="rameshwar-teli" source="Orion">Rameshwar Teli</keyword> in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha. Teli explained that the EPFO data covers the low-paid workers in medium and large establishments of the formal sector. According to the reply, the net addition in <keyword id="19817982" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="women-epfo-subscribers" source="Orion">women EPFO subscribers</keyword> increased from 15,93,614 in 2019-20 to 28,69,688 in 2022-23. The net women <keyword id="883813" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="epfo-subscribers" source="Orion">EPFO subscribers</keyword> addition was 13,98,080 in 2020-21 and 26,18,728 in 2021-22. Teli also informed the House that the estimated female unemployment rate (UR) on usual status for persons of age 15 years and above in the country declined to 2.9 per cent in 2022-23 from 4.2 per cent in 2019-20, as per the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS). It was 3.5 in 2020-21 and 3.3 in 2021-22. The data indicates that the labour force indicators in 2022-23 for women are better than the pre-Covid period, the minister told the House. Teli said the estimated female worker population ratio (WPR) increased to 35.6 per cent during 2022-23 from 28.7 per cent in 2019-20, which shows that female employment in the country has an increasing trend. Employment generation, coupled with improving employability, is the priority of the government, Teli said, adding that the government has taken various steps to increase employability in the country, including women's participation in the labour force and quality of their employment. A number of protective provisions have been incorporated in the labour laws for equal opportunity and congenial work environment for women workers, he stated. The Code on Social Security, 2020, has provisions for enhancement in paid maternity leave from 12 weeks to 26 weeks, provision for mandatory creche facility in establishments having 50 or more employees, permitting women workers in the night shifts with adequate safety measures, etc. The Code on Occupational Safety, Health And Working Conditions (OSH), 2020, has provisions for the employment of women in aboveground mines, including opencast workings has been allowed between 7 pm and 6 am and in below-ground working between 6 am and 7 pm in technical, supervisory and managerial work, where continuous presence may not be required. The Code on Wages 2019 has provisions that there shall be no discrimination in an establishment or any unit thereof among employees on the grounds of gender in matters relating to wages by the same employer in respect of the same work or work of a similar nature done by any employee. Further, Teli stated that no employer shall make any discrimination on the grounds of sex while recruiting any employee for the same work or work of a similar nature in the conditions of employment, except where the employment of women in such work is prohibited or restricted by or under any law for the time being in force. To enhance the employability of female workers, the government is providing training to them through a network of Women's Industrial Training institutes, National Vocational Training Institutes and Regional Vocational Training Institutes. All these initiatives are expected to collectively generate employment in the medium to long term through multiplier effects, the minister stated.

Net new women EPFO subscribers addition rises to 28.69 lakh in FY23

The findings are based on the analysis of monthly payroll data which the government has been regularly releasing since April 2018 as published in the SBI Ecowrap report. The data includes information from the Employees' Provident Fund Organization (EPFO), the National Pension System (NPS), and the Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC). Upon closer examination, the net new payroll (first job or fresh job) was estimated at 2.27 crore during this period, factoring in re-joined and re-subscribed members as well as formalisation based on electronic challan cum return (ECR) data. This means that India added 2.27 crore news jobs under EPFO in the above period, accounting for 47% of the total new payroll. ECR is a monthly electronic return employers submit through the unified portal, providing wage and contribution details for all members, including new and existing members, with basic information. Furthermore, the data shows that there were 2.17 crore individuals with a second job (or exited members who rejoined and resubscribed) over the four-year period ending in FY 2023. State-wise payroll figures According to the state-wise payroll figures, there is a growing trend of month-on-month net member addition in states such as Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand and West Bengal. The top five states in terms of net member addition are Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Gujarat and Delhi, which collectively account for 58.62% of the net member addition during the month. Maharashtra leads the way accounting for 20.90% of net members added, followed by Tamil Nadu, which constituted 11.92%. Expert services account for over 40% additions in the month The industry-wise analysis of payroll data reveals that "Expert Services," which includes manpower suppliers, normal contractors, security services, and miscellaneous activities, accounted for 41.17% of the total member addition during the month. In comparison to the previous month's data, higher enrollments were observed in industries such as leather products, garment-making, establishments engaged in rendering courier services, and fish processing and non-veg food preservation. Proportion of women added to workforce up significantly over last four months: EPFO data

A year-on-year comparison of payroll data reflects an increase of 21,026 in net membership in October 2022, it stated. Of the total 12.94 lakh members added during the month, around 7.28 lakh new members have been covered under the social security cover of the EPFO for the first time, the provisional payroll data of Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) showed. Among the new members, the highest number was registered for the age group of 18-21 years with 2.19 lakh members. This was followed by the age group of 22-25 years with 1.97 lakh members. Out of the total new members who joined, approximately 57.25 per cent are from the age group of 18-25 years of age. During the month, approximately 5.66 lakh net members exited but rejoined the EPFO by changing their jobs within the establishments covered by EPFO and opted to transfer their funds from the previous PF account to the current account instead of opting for final settlement. Gender-wise analysis of payroll data indicates that the enrolment of net female members has been 2.63 lakh in October 2022. Out of this, 1.91 lakh females have joined EPFO for the first time which is around 72.73 per cent of net female member addition during the month, it stated. EPFO adds 12.94 lakh net subscribers in October

Citing Employees' Provident Fund Organisation data, Union minister <keyword id="7796574" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="ashwini-vaishnaw" source="Orion">Ashwini Vaishnaw</keyword> has said an average of 15-16 lakh formal sector jobs are being generated every month in India. "In Apr, May, June, July and August, on average 15-16 lakh jobs got generated every month in the country. Data is available on <keyword id="6372438" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="epfo" source="Orion">EPFO</keyword> and Ministry of Statistics websites," said Vaishnaw, Union Minister for Railways, Communications, Electronics and Information Technology, on Tuesday while addressing the '<keyword id="1463752" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="rozgar-mela" source="Orion">Rozgar Mela</keyword>' in Ajmer which was organized by Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). The Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) provisional payroll data released last week showed that it has added 16.82 lakh net subscribers in the month of September 2022, which is an increase of 9.14 per cent in net membership as compared to the corresponding month during the last year. The Ministry of Labour and Employment said that the state-wise payroll figures highlight that a month-on-month growing trend in net member addition was observed in the states of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, <keyword id="37102" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="andhra-pradesh" source="Orion">Andhra Pradesh</keyword>, Orissa and others. As compared to the monthly average that was recorded during the last fiscal, the net enrolment during the month is 21.85 per cent higher. In line with the Centre's thrust for employment under the Rozgar Mela, Prime Minister <keyword id="6354477" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="narendra-modi" source="Orion">Narendra Modi</keyword> had distributed around 146,000 appointment letters to new recruits so far. India generates 15-16 lakh formal sector jobs every month, says Ashwini Vaishnaw citing EPFO data

The <keyword id="19948184" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-economy" source="keywords">Indian economy</keyword> could grow more than 7 per cent during the current fiscal amid a benign global outlook and expected above-normal monsoon, economic think tank <keyword id="19959741" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="NCAER" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="NCAER" meta.hostid="83" meta.entityid="NCAER">NCAER</keyword> has said. In its April 2024 issue of Monthly Economic Review (MER), NCAER said a range of high-frequency indicators reveal the resilience of the domestic economy with the Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) for manufacturing at a 16-year high and UPI, the leading digital payments system, touching the highest volume since its inception in 2016. "Projected acceleration in both global growth and trade volumes, as well as a forecast of an above-normal monsoon, indicate that the Indian economy can again attain growth rates higher than 7 per cent during the current fiscal year," said NCAER Director General Poonam Gupta. According to NCAER, Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections reached Rs 1.8 lakh crore in March, the second best since its rollout in 2017, while UPI recorded 13.4 billion transactions (in volume) in March 2024, the highest since its introduction, registering a growth of 55.3 per cent on a year-on-year basis. "These high-frequency indicators, coupled with a more benign global outlook projected by the IMF and WTO bode well for the Indian economy during the current year," Gupta added. According to the report, Consumer Price Index (CPI) headline inflation was down to 4.9 per cent in March from 5.1 per cent in February, while core inflation came down to 3.2 per cent during the same period. The report said employment indicators again showed mixed trends, with an increase in the number of net new subscribers under the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) on a year-on-year basis. However, the overall online hiring activities, as per the Naukri JobSpeak Index, moderated year-on-year, it added. While the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Fitch Ratings have estimated India's growth at 7 per cent, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), S&amp;P Global Ratings and Morgan Stanley projected a 6.8 per cent growth rate for FY25. The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) decided to keep the policy rate unchanged at 6.5 per cent. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) kept projections for India's real Gross Domestic Product (<keyword id="35050" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="gdp" source="Orion">GDP</keyword>) growth for FY2024-25 at 7 per cent and Consumer Price Index (CPI) headline inflation at 4.5 per cent, in line with their previous projections. Indian economy likely to grow over 7% in 2024-25: Economic think tank NCAER

The <keyword id="6355302" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="rupee" source="Orion">rupee</keyword> appreciated by 10 paise to close at 82.72 (provisional) against the US dollar on Monday, as the American currency retreated from its elevated levels. <keyword id="2155647" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Forex-traders" source="Orion">Forex traders</keyword> said a muted trend in domestic equities and foreign fund outflows weighed on investor sentiments and restricted the appreciation bias. At the interbank foreign exchange market, the local unit opened at 82.69 against the American currency and finally settled at 82.72 (provisional) against the greenback, registering a gain of 10 paise over its previous close of 82.82. During the <keyword id="396295" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="trading-session" source="Orion">trading session</keyword>, the rupee touched a high of 82.62 and a low of 82.74 against the dollar. The dollar index, which gauges the greenback's strength against a basket of six currencies, rose 0.04 per cent to 103.90. <keyword id="2557147" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Global-oil-benchmark" source="Orion">Global oil benchmark</keyword> Brent crude futures advanced 1.05 per cent to USD 83.87 per barrel. "Rupee traded strong near 82.75 as dollar index traded below USD 104 guiding rupee strength. Asian currencies were trading strong on the back of weakness in the dollar," said Jateen Trivedi, VP Research Analyst at LKP Securities. Trivedi further noted that the US Fed's minutes update will be keenly watched this week for further trend. Rupee gains 10 paise to close at 82.72 against US dollar

Dealmaking activity witnessed a huge decline in January, with only 145 transactions worth USD 2.7 billion being undertaken by <keyword id="46431" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="india-inc" source="Orion">India Inc</keyword>, a report said on Monday. By value, the overall flows suffered due to the absence of any big-ticket deal and were 56 per cent down as compared to USD 6.12 billion in the year-ago period, and 62 per cent down compared to the previous month, the report by consultancy firm <keyword id="131240" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="grant-thornton" source="Orion">Grant Thornton</keyword> said. The volumes were down 41 per cent when compared with 244 deals in January 2022, while the same were down by 3 per cent as compared to the preceding month of December. "<keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword> managed to account for record deal values last year (2022), which made investors hopeful about the future. However, the deal momentum in January 2023 did not match the expectation and witnessed a declining trend," its partner <keyword id="12539905" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="shanthi-vijetha" source="Orion">Shanthi Vijetha</keyword> said. The mergers and acquisition (M&amp;A) deal volumes declined by 62 per cent at 26 deals worth USD 311 million, an 88 per cent decrease compared to January 2022, it said. The M&amp;A segment continued to be dominated by domestic deals, it said, adding that at USD 270 million, the monthly value was the lowest since May 2022. Private equity (PE) investments recorded 119 deals valued over USD 2.4 billion, it said, adding that while both volumes and values declined compared to January 2022, there was a 28 per cent increase in deal volumes and a 30 per cent increase in deal values when compared with December 2022. <keyword id="6363818" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="pharma" source="Orion">Pharma</keyword>, healthcare and biotech stood at the top in terms of overall deal values, recording six deals valuing USD 921 million, most of which was contributed by two big-ticket transactions in the PE space, it added. India Inc sees winter chill in dealmaking activity in January: Grant Thornton

Mumbai, Mar 15 (PTI) Equity benchmarks <keyword id="6484188" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="sensex" source="Orion">Sensex</keyword> and <keyword id="6354813" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="nifty" source="Orion">Nifty</keyword> turned choppy on Tuesday, tracking weakness in index-heavyweight IT stocks amid a mixed trend in Asian equities. Despite opening with strong gains, the 30-share Sensex turned volatile to trade 150 points lower to 56,333.72. The broader NSE Nifty fell 28.50 points to 16,842.80. From the 30-share Sensex pack, Tata Steel, Infosys, Tech Mahindra, HCL Tech and TCS and <keyword id="10862" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="wipro" source="Orion">Wipro</keyword> were the prominent losers. Sensex, Nifty off to a volatile start; Tata Steel, Infosys, Tech Mahindra, HCL Tech, TCS and Wipro big losers among Sensex 30 stocks

Mumbai, Jan 13 () The economic slowdown has adversely impacted employment generation in the country as nearly 16 lakh less jobs are projected to be created in FY20 compared to 89.7 lakh fresh jobs in FY19, a report said.
 According to the SBI research report- Ecowrap, there is a decline in remittances in a few states like Assam and Rajasthan, reflecting downsizing of contractual labourers.
 "In FY19, India had created 89.7 lakh new payrolls as per the EPFO data. In FY20, as per current projected this number could be at least 15.8 lakh lower," the report said.
 The EPFO data primarily covers low paid jobs as the salary is capped at Rs 15,000 per month. As per the calculation done by the report, during April-October 2019, the actual net new payroll was 43.1 lakh which annualised comes out to be 73.9 lakh for FY20.
 The EPFO data does not cover government jobs, state government jobs and private jobs as such data have moved to National Pension Scheme (NPS), beginning 2004.
 "Interestingly, even in the NPS category, state and central government are supposed to create close to 39,000 jobs less in FY20 as per current trends," the report said.
 It said a sample of data on remittances by migrant labourers to selected states in the last one year showed that there is a decline in remittances in states like Assam, Bihar, Rajasthan, Odisha and UP.
 "The delay in resolution of cases under bankruptcy proceedings may have prompted companies to downsize their contractual labourers," it said.
 Over the years, migration has been an important livelihood option for both the poor and the non-poor in the country.
 As a result of unequal growth, people from agriculturally and industrially less-developed states migrate to more developed states in search of job opportunities - for example from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, the southern part of Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, and Rajasthan to states like Punjab, Gujarat, and Maharashtra.
 For a large number of migrants, New Delhi is a much-favoured destination due to the abundance of job opportunities, the report said.
 "These migrants have been making significant financial contributions to their families in their places of origin," it said.
 The report further said in the last five years, the overall productivity growth has remained relatively stagnant between 9.4 per cent to 9.9 per cent.
 This slow growth in productivity manifests in low wage growth, it said. 
 The report also cautioned the policymakers of such slower productivity growth as it could encourage over-borrowing by corporations and households, which can create a big risk to economies and fiscal systems. HV ANS

This is the second revision of the limit done by India. The first was in February when the differential was increased from 5% to 10%. What is circle rate and why should I care? Right now, if there is a difference between the cost of the home and the circle rate set by the government. If that difference is more than 10%, any excess income is accounted for as the buyer’s income. Since it comes into the income basket, it is also taxed at the same nominal rates. But going forward, for homes under the price of ₹2 crore, this differential will be increased from 10% to 20% for next seven months, until 30 June 2021. This means that if for instance, if the circle rate is ₹1.2 crore, the price of the home can’t be more ₹1.5 crore for buyers to remain within the 20% differential.
