Chandigarh, Feb 18 () Germany-based Freudenberg Group CEO Ulrich Kerber on Tuesday discussed with Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh the modalities for investing Rs 400 crore in the state's automotive sector.<p> Amarinder assured Kerber of his government's full support and cooperation to undertake expansion in the state, a government statement said here.</p><p> Kerber informed the chief minister that the group was in constant touch with 'Invest Punjab' team for identification of suitable site for the new project, which would soon be finalised. </p><p> He told Amarinder that Vibracoustic India, an arm of Freudenberg Group, is a leading supplier of NBH (noise, vibration and harshness) solutions for automotive industry, with a presence in 19 countries, and a market share of 18 per cent. </p><p> It is a major supplier to companies such as Audi, Mercedes and Volvo, he added.</p><p> Vibracoustic India President and Head of Operatons Jagminder Bawa informed the chief minister that the group started its operation 20 years ago in Mohali.</p><p> He also pointed out that Vibracoustic India had worked out a proposal to invest for both Vibracoustic India and Freudenberg Sealing Technologies, another group company.</p><p> Amarinder appreciated the group's endeavours and said the new proposed project would further boost investment sentiment in the state, besides generating employment. </p><p> With his government's investor friendly policies and renewed confidence of entrepreneurs, Punjab has firmed up investments worth nearly Rs 60,000 crore on the ground since March 2017, he said.</p> Freudenberg Group, a global technology conglomerate, deals in multiple sectors such as mobility, energy, chemicals, household, textile with 50,000 employees in around 60 countries, and had a total turnover of more than 9.4 billion Euros in 2018. Manufacturing Sector Gears Up For Hiring

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Darryl Howard was convicted in the killing of a mother and daughter in 1991.</li><li>New DNA evidence suggested that he wasn't responsible, <a href="https://www.newsobserver.com/news/local/crime/article256189702.html">The News &amp; Observer</a> reported.</li></ul><p>A federal jury found last Wednesday that a 58-year-old Black man spent 23 years in prison for a wrongful murder conviction, awarding him $6 million in damages, the <a href="https://apnews.com/article/crime-north-carolina-raleigh-durham-winston-salem-660b8b33dd703bace3707d1ced16509e">Associated Press</a> reported.</p><p>In 1995, Darryl Howard was sentenced to 80 years in prison for the 1991 killings of 29-year-old Doris Washington and her 13-year-old daughter, Nishonda. He was found guilty of arson and two counts of second-degree murder.</p><p>Howard's conviction was vacated on August 31, 2016, when a Durham County judge acknowledged the presence of misconduct among authorities, according to the AP. He was granted a pardon of innocence by Governor Roy in April, <a href="https://abc11.com/darryl-howard-anthony-durham-doris-washington/10564012/">according to WTVD-TV.</a></p><p>In 2017, he filed a federal civil rights suit arguing that former Durham police detective Darell Dowdy, the city, and others led to his wrongful conviction.</p><p>In the lawsuit, Howard's attorneys argued that new evidence proved that Howard wasn't involved, <a href="https://casetext.com/case/howard-v-city-of-durham-1">according to court documents</a>.</p><p>New evidence — including a tear in Washington's genitalia and semen in Nishonda's genitalia — showed that Washington and her daughter were sexually assaulted, according to <a href="https://www.newsobserver.com/news/local/crime/article256189702.html">The News &amp; Observer</a>. They were found face down on a bed in their apartment that was set ablaze.</p><p>Washington's suspected cause of death was a blow to a chest, and her daughter's was strangulation, the Raleigh outlet reported. </p><p>Howard's attorneys also argued that detective Dowdy tampered with the evidence. Last month, a jury in <keyword id="11940457" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="north-carolina" source="Orion">North Carolina</keyword> found Dowdy fabricated evidence that played a role in Howard's conviction, <a href="https://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/local/crime/article255759441.html">according to The Charlotte Observer</a>. Dowdy denied that he did so.</p><p><a href="https://www.wral.com/jury-finds-former-durham-police-investigator-fabricated-evidence-to-convict-man-of-murder/20011507/">WRAL</a> reported that Howard's attorneys argued that Dowdy shared information about the double murder to informants ahead of time in an effort to incriminate Howard.</p><p>"We have confidence in the investigation Detective Dowdy conducted," Dowdy's attorney Nick Ellis said, citing the WRAL report.</p><p>On December 1, the North Carolina jury awarded Howard $6 million in damages.</p><p>"I am happy about the verdict, but I am kind of upset about the damages," Howard told the local <keyword id="11893589" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="news" source="Orion">news</keyword> outlet. </p><p>When asked by a reporter for The News &amp; Observer if he felt justice had been served, Howard said he didn't.</p><p>"No, to be honest with you, but it is what it is," he said.</p><p>His legal team previously asked for a total of about $48 million, according to the AP.</p><p>"It's a huge number," Emma Freudenberger, an attorney on Howard's legal team, told the jury. "And you know what? It is not nearly enough."</p><p>Howard's and Dowdy's legal teams did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.</p>

The ICD lists possible signs of burnout as:</span></p><p><span>1) Feelings of energy depletion or exhaustion.</span></p><p><span>2) Increased mental distance from one's job, or feelings of negativism or cynicism related to one's job.</span></p><p><span>3) Reduced professional efficacy.</span></p><p><span>Even though burnout seems like a recent phenomenon, psychologists have been studying the feeling for the last four decades. According to <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2019/05/27/health/who-burnout-disease-trnd/index.html">CNN</a>, American psychologist Herbert Freudenberger coined the term in 1974. Since then, hundreds of studies have attempted to explain the disorder, likening it to anxiety or mood disorders. Severe cases of burnout, according to one study, actually <a href="https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0191886916300083">stem from depression</a>.</span></p><p><span>High-stress professions such as doctors are <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/cost-of-physician-burnout-to-us-healthcare-system-2019-5">burning out twice as fast</a> as the average American worker, and the US is paying billions of dollars as a result. Doctors (over half of whom experience burnout) leave healthcare systems that flood them with too many patients, putting a strain on the system.</span></p><p><span>Workers in the United Kingdom are feeling burned out as well. Because most of us are, in some way, in the business of helping people, few are immune to burnout.</p><p style="font-weight: 400;"><strong>Prescription for Preventing Burnout</strong></p><p style="font-weight: 400;">To navigate my way forward in stagnant times, I've found that partnerships, productive pauses, curiosity, and stewardship can serve as instruments to steer through the doldrums.</p><h3><strong>Partnerships</strong></h3><p><a href="https://www.ehstoday.com/health/mentors-valuable-assets-both-employees-and-organizations" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.ehstoday.com/health/mentors-valuable-assets-both-employees-and-organizations&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1556817351609000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFHCNWsu3XIdRph9n9JsA8sYIGKxg">Scientific research</a> in the work environment tells us that meaningful mentorship is protective against burnout. This resonated with me because I was shepherded through my own early career by some excellent mentors including Drs. Jannetta and Haid. In fact, I still call my Fellowship director, "Coach" when I reach out to him during challenging situations. I have also modified it to a "mini" session I hold for myself at multiple times during the day, utilizing it whether I'm in the operating room, seeing patients or about to speak to a classroom of cadets. I close my eyes for anywhere from 10 seconds to a minute or two and step out of the external world. I imagine experiencing a beautiful vista on a trail along Chimney Pond in Baxter State Park, Maine. This is a "go to" strategy for me in a stress-filled day or even during a break in surgery. <em>It's creating your own green room in your mind. I don't share Bill Maher's political or secular views, yet I'll hear what he has to say because he's intelligent and provocative. He gets me out of my comfort zone. Sometimes an ice cold bucket of water on your face wakes you up to all kinds of experiences. My motto is: <em>if it doesn't challenge you, it doesn't change you</em>. I enjoy listening to podcasts recommended by my younger medical staff and premed students. My mentor Dr. Jannetta always told me young people should read old books and old people should read young books. I did a McLaughlin Modification and added a few more options to achieve a form of eternal life. My version states,</p><p style="font-weight: 400;">"If you want to be immortal plant a tree, write a book, coach a child." <a href="https://gbr.pepperdine.edu/2016/04/live-your-life-in-crescendo/" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://gbr.pepperdine.edu/2016/04/live-your-life-in-crescendo/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1556817351609000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFW8wZlaYOuZ4J0OO8T1048d-46Xg">Stephen Covey</a>, who had a doctorate in religion but who chose to speak, at least initially, to business people, told us long ago that sharing and helping others be their best is a critical element of a life in which we are effective and happy. Sharing your own pearls of hard-won wisdom with others can keep you grounded and focused.</p><p style="font-weight: 400;">Doing so can make you less susceptible to burnout yourself, by giving you a new sense of purpose and a source of personal satisfaction. I haven't planted many trees in my day, but it's on my "to do" list. But I do coach kids in wrestling and I am writing a book. Many people have asked me how I can coach, be a brain surgeon and an author. I confess that the book and coaching are not just for altruistic purposes- there are personal reasons, too.</p><p style="font-weight: 400;">They GIVE me energy and serve as my version of fire retardant to keep me from burning out as a neurosurgeon. Maybe five% of the time these extracurriculars will physically tire me out more. But the other 95% of the time they energize me even more at work.</p><h2 style="font-weight: 400;"><strong>Strange bedfellows for neurosurgeons: Burnout <em>and</em> job satisfaction</strong></h2><p style="font-weight: 400;">Interestingly you can love your job and still get burned out. I was recently surprised by a <a href="https://thejns.org/view/journals/j-neurosurg/123/1/article-p161.xml" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://thejns.org/view/journals/j-neurosurg/123/1/article-p161.xml&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1556817351609000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGe4PTWIFzIzYDqrXJ9xk6MEDgETA">survey</a> of my colleagues in the <em>Journal of Neurosurgery</em>. Despite this finding, more than 80% reported satisfaction with their career and 70% said they would choose a career in neurosurgery if they could start all over again.</p><p style="font-weight: 400;">This juxtaposition of seemingly incompatible states is not surprising when one considers the whole picture. Although the demanding work of neurosurgery wears me down, I get a tremendous lift, sometimes even euphoria, when I help my patients through some of their darkest and dangerous moments.</p><p style="font-weight: 400;">When I feel burned out it's rarely because I'm physically tired. More often I believe it's when I'm mentally overdrawn. It's when I sense a disconnect with my purpose and what my job sometimes requires me to do. This can happen commonly in medicine - too much paperwork, regulation, oversight, and seemingly useless mandatory education seminars can crush your spirit. Sometimes just carrying your own can too. Perhaps you have felt that looming despair of helplessness and burnout.
