LTV stands for loan-to-value. How rising gold prices help Muthoot and Manappuram? When someone borrows money against gold, he/she is giving jewellery (mostly) as collateral. If the market price of that jewellery goes up, it is good for the lender because the collateral would be worth a lot more in case the loan is defaulted. Assume the borrower wants to borrow more, he doesn’t need fresh collateral. The rising price of gold will allow him to get more loans for the same jewellery he had mortgaged in the first place. Gold prices have gone up 32% in 2020 so far, and that means for every ounce that Muthoot and Manappuram lent against is worth that much more i.e. better buffer and room to lend more resulting in higher revenue. “We were lending up 75%. But, people used to think that our average people borrowing is only about 65-68% like nobody takes 75% fully. In the last 6 months, the price of gold has gone up so much, the people who are having the gold can borrow much more. And, at today’s price, they have borrowed only 50%. Why gold prices may rise further? Gold prices rise whenever there is a chance of a crisis or inflation. Between the pandemic and rising geopolitical tension in the South China Sea, a continuing trade war between US and China, there are enough reasons for a rally in gold prices. There is another way in which gold prices may rise, if the dollar weakens. When the currency weakens, you need more cash to buy the same amount of gold. The uncertainty around the US election has cast a shadow of doubt on the greenback. Given these rising risk factors, global central banks have been hoarding gold. The RBI too is likely to do the same as India faces an added threat of high inflation in the coming months. All of these may prop up gold prices, which are already trading at over ₹55,700 an ounce in India, even more. And as explained above, it bodes well for Muthoot and Manappuram. But that’s not all. The two companies are benefiting from additional government measures⁠— meant for the pandemic⁠— as well. "For the coming year, in addition to further penetration into the existing geographies, Muthoot Homefin also plans to expand its operations in the southern states of India and aims to disburse up to ₹700 crore of home loans in FY 2021-22," it said. It also added that the company's credit rating has been upgraded to "AA+ (stable)" from "AA (positive)" by Crisil during the week ended Friday and the upgrade will allow the company to raise funds at competitive interest rates, thereby passing on the benefits to its end customers, it added. Muthoot Homefin aims to disburse ₹700 crore home loans in FY22

New Delhi, <keyword id="640026" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Muthoot-Finance-Ltd-">Muthoot Finance Ltd.</keyword> on Monday announced its 23rd series of Public Issue of Secured Redeemable Non-Convertible Debentures of face value of Rs 1,000 each. The Issue is with a base issue size of Rs 100 crores with an option to retain oversubscription upto Rs 1,900 crores aggregating up to tranche limit of Rs 2,000 crores. The Issue opens on October 27 and closes on November 20 with an option to close on such earlier date or extended date as may be decided by the Board of Directors or NCD committee, the company said in a statement. Muthoot Finance to raise ₹2,000 crore through bond sale

New Delhi, Nov 22 () Muthoot Finance on Friday said it will acquire IDBI Asset Management for Rs 215 crore to enter mutual fund space.
The deal, which is subject to necessary regulatory approvals including markets regulator Sebi, is expected to be completed by February-end 2020, Muthoot Finance said in a statement.
Promoted by IDBI Bank in 2010, IDBI Mutual Fund is one of the profit making AMCs in the space with an asset base of over Rs 5,300 crore. The fund house runs 22 schemes with robust asset base across products, geography and investors.
Muthoot Finance said it has "entered into a definitive agreement to acquire IDBI Asset Management (AMC) and IDBI MF Trustee Company".
Upon completion of the transaction, Muthoot Finance will purchase 100 equity shares of IDBI AMC and IDBI MF Trustee Company held by the sellers for a total consideration of Rs 215 crore.
"IDBI Mutual Fund is a trusted player in the mutual fund space with a steady loyal customer base. At Muthoot we pride ourselves in venturing into mutual fund space through such an established player.
"The business objectives and customer centric approach that we follow within Muthoot Group is well aligned with the business objectives of mutual fund industry. We are excited to venture into this new path in the financial services space," Muthoot Finance MD George Alexander Muthoot said.
ICICI Securities acted as the advisors in the transaction to sellers. AZB &amp; Partners was the legal advisor to Muthoot Finance, while J Sagar Associates acted as the legal advisor to the sellers.
In October, Baroda Asset Management and BNP Paribas Asset Management announced to merge their businesses in a bid to leverage each other's strengths to offer products for retail and institutional investors.

New Delhi, Feb 1 () The government has proposed to provide credit guarantee for the NBFC sector that has been facing liquidity crisis since the burst of the IL&amp;FS scam nearly one-and-a-half years ago.
 Besides, the asset-wise eligibility criterion to be admitted under the debt recovery process has been reduced, according to Budget documents.
 To address the liquidity constraints of non-banking financial companies (NBFCs) and housing finance companies (HFCs), the government proposed to set up a partial credit guarantee scheme for the sector after the Union Budget 2019-20.
 "To further this support of providing liquidity, a mechanism would be devised. The government will offer support by guaranteeing securities so floated," the Budget documents said.
 Pawan Singh, managing director and CEO, PTC India Financial Services, said, "The announcement of the government's intent to guarantee securities floated to provide liquidity for NBFCs is expected to help in tiding over the current liquidity crunch."
 The Budget also stated that the limit for NBFCs to be eligible for debt recovery under the Securitization and Reconstruction of Financial Assets and Enforcement of Security Interest (SARFAESI) Act, 2002, is proposed to be reduced from Rs 500 crore to asset size of Rs 100 crore or loan size from the existing Rs 1 crore to Rs 50 lakh.
 Tata Capital MD and CEO Rajiv Sabharwal said positive measures have been taken to boost the NBFC and HFC sector. "Enhancement of FPI limits in corporate bonds, abolishing of the dividend distribution tax regime and date extension of the partial credit guarantee scheme will increase flow of liquidity."
 Umesh Revankar, MD and CEO, Shriram Transport Finance, said that under the SARFAESI Act, the debt recovery has reduced from Rs 1 crore to Rs 50 lakh is one step ahead. "We would still expect it to be on par with banks which currently stand at Rs 1 lakh."
