In fact, after the dismal second quarter GDP which grew at a mere 4.5%, economists have been batting for 50 basis point rate cut. <br /><br />But the decision to keep rates unchanged was 'unanimous' at the meeting held today. "Food inflation will be very high from January to March 2020," said <keyword id="6359111" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Shaktikanta-Das">Shaktikanta Das</keyword>, the governor of RBI told the press conference. <br /><br />The country’s interest rates, after five successive cuts in all the MPC review meetings meeting this year -- is already at its lowest in ten years. But it was not enough. <br /><br />And the lack of a rate cut yet again disappointed many including Sensex which dropped 100 points right after the announcement. <br /><br />"With the growth projection for the current year being revised down from 6.1% to 5%, both government and the central bank should initiate some stronger measures to break the logjam particularly in the stressed sectors of the economy," said Sandip Somany, president of industry body, FICCI. <br />

Food inflation will be very high from January to March 2020, warns RBI governor as he keeps interest rates unchanged

New Delhi, Apr 24 () The economic advisory panel of the 15th Finance Commission has suggested that the government should look to support small enterprises and avert bankruptcies in the financial sector as part of the fiscal response to deal with the coronavirus crisis. <p> At its two-day meeting held via video conferencing, the members of the Advisory Council felt that the shortfall in tax and other revenues will be large due to subdued economic activity and hence the fiscal response to the crisis should be much more nuanced.  </p><p> "It is important not just to look at the size of fiscal response but also carefully at its design... The Advisory Council also felt that the magnitude of the impact of these developments on public finances is uncertain, but will certainly be significant.  </p><p> "Governments will have substantial expenditure burden on account of health, support to poor and other economic agents," an official statement issued after the meeting said.  </p><p> The council felt that the COVID-19 pandemic and the national lockdown would slow down domestic activity and impact cash flows of financial institutions and businesses, besides loss of global demand for Indian products because of a steep global recession.  </p><p> "All of them were unanimous to suggest that the projections of real GDP growth made before March 2020 need to be relooked into entirely, and, revised downwards considerably.  </p><p> "Once the lockdown of the economy is released, the recovery can only be excepted to be gradual, depending on the ability of the workforce to get back to work soon, restoration of supplies of intermediates and cash flows and, of course, the demand for output. Therefore, the full magnitude of the economic impact of Covid will only be clear only over a course of time," the statement said.  </p><p> Among the suggestions made to the commission, the council members said small scale enterprises were cash-starved even prior to the onset of the pandemic. "As their activity levels and cash flows are affected, it is important that a support mechanism be devised to help them overcome this problem," it said.  </p><p> Also, non-banking financial companies are affected by the slowdown and in order to avoid bankruptcies and deepening of NPAs in the financial sector, measures should be appropriately designed.  </p><p> Measures like partial loan guarantee may help. The Reserve Bank of India will have a key role in ensuring that financial institutions are well-capitalised, the council members suggested.  </p><p> Also the finances of the central and state governments need to be watched carefully in the wake of increased spending to fight the pandemic. "As we move ahead, we need to think of options for financing the additional deficit. It is important to ensure that the State governments get access to adequate funds to undertake their fight against the pandemic," it added.  </p><p> Besides the healthcare cost, the government is also faced with the additional burden of giving booster or stimulus to sectors and industries hit by the nationwide lockdown. </p><p> The lockdown that began on March 25 was last week extended till May 3. Late last month, the government had announced a Rs 1.7 lakh crore stimulus package comprising free foodgrains and cooking gas to poor and cash dole to poor women and elderly. </p><p> A second package, aimed at industries, is said to be in the works and will likely be announced shortly.  </p><p> Several international agencies including IMF and the World Bank have cut India's growth forecast over concerns about the fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic. </p><p> The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has slashed India's GDP growth projection to 1.9 per cent in 2020 from 5.8 per cent estimated in January, as the global economy hits the worst recession since the Great Depression in the 1930s due to the raging coronavirus pandemic. </p><p> Similarly, the World Bank has estimated India's economy to grow between 1.5 to 2.8 per cent in the 2020-21 -- the worst growth performance since the 1991 liberalisation. </p><p> Fitch has projected India's GDP to grow at 0.8 per cent this fiscal, while S&amp;P pegs it at 1.8 per cent and Moody's at 2.5 per cent in 2020. </p><p> These growth estimates compare to an estimated 5 per cent growth rate in 2019-20 fiscal that ended on March 31. India's economy also grew by 5 per cent in 2019 calendar year.  </p><p> The council also felt that it is likely that different states may come out of the severity of the impact of the pandemic in different stages. After rubbing shoulders with CEOs at the World Economic Forum in Davos last month, the comedian has now made it to Forbes India’s 30 under 30 list. <br /><br />The 26 year old is one of the two YouTubers along with <em>Technical Guruji </em>Gaurav Chaudhary who made their debut on the list this year. “YouTuber Bhuvan Bam graduated from ‘Watch Out For’ to debut in the digital content creators category,” Forbes India said in <a href="http://www.forbesindia.com/article/30-under-30-2020/forbes-india-30-under-30-a-cut-above-the-rest/57513/1">its press release</a>. <br /><br />For Bam, the journey started in 2015 when he realized that very few people were making YouTube videos in Hindi, and started his channel “BB Ki Vines”. <br /><br />Back then, India had few homegrown comedians. The Viral Fever and All India Bakchod were creating content, but in English. <br /><br />“I thought I should bring some kind of humour. I’ve grown up watching Kader Khan, Johnny Lever, Govinda kind of movies, David Dhawan movies, ’90s and early 2000s movies. And that was a good change for people. The language barrier was at a breaking point,” Bhuvan<a href="https://qz.com/india/1456007/the-making-of-bhuvan-bam-indias-biggest-youtube-star/"> told Quartz. </a><br /><br />Five years on, Bam has a wide fan base and his videos received a billion views. He is now as famous as any other Bollywood celebrity in India — and celebrities like Karan Johar are in awe of him as well. <br /><br />He also went where no one expected this expletive spewing YouTuber will go --- to the World Economic Forum to tell the story of how he captured the pulse of young Indians. <br /><br /><strong>Jokes that no one would laugh at </strong><br /><br />In 2015, Bhuvan was yet another college boy who used to sing at a restaurant for ₹3,000 a night. The natural performer also believed he could tell funny stories though nobody in his family would laugh at them. One day, he decided to post a 15 second video — that mocked the media for their insensitive question in Kashmir floods — on his Facebook page. <br /><br />“A reporter was asking this lady ‘How do you feel, (now) that you’ve lost your son?’ It was a silly question. I couldn’t control myself. I had to make a satire of it,” says Bam. <br /><br /><br />He decided to post some more. <br /><br /><strong>Fans from Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh<br /></strong>Success did not come instantly. The first few videos received a mere 15 views. Gradually, that 15 turned to 300 and he shot to fame in his college and others. To his surprise, he built a fanbase in Karachi University. But India was still unaware of him. <br /><br />“India took a lot of time to warm up to my videos!” He moved from Facebook to Youtube after a friend suggested monetising what he was doing. <br /><br /><strong>The Karan Johar of Youtube</strong><br />Bam managed to get the attention of people after his video “Valentine’s Week Hutiyapa” went viral in 2016. He even got a million subscribers to his Youtube channel in 7 months. Since then, Bam experimented a lot - right from dancing to singing. He also co-produced a movie Plus minus. <br /><br />Soon, he became an influencer and endorsed as many as 30 brands until April 2019. He is now the face of Lenskart. His success lies in his no-cost production strategy. He created 16 characters and acted for all of them. He shoots his videos himself, edits and posts them himself. <br /><br />“I don’t spend a single penny on them. I take 15 to 16 days to come up with a video and do one or two videos a month. That’s a long time. People who have big production houses need to hire people, pay vendors etc,” <a href="https://qz.com/india/1456007/the-making-of-bhuvan-bam-indias-biggest-youtube-star/">he told Quartz. </a><br /><br />At first Bam wanted to be a part of Bollywood but he now believes Youtube is bigger. “I want to be the Dharma productions of YouTube. <ul><li>Followers can sue influencers for lying about liking a product under the Consumer Protection Act 2019.</li><li>Most online influencers in India do not reveal if they’re genuinely endorsing a product or if they’ve been paid to say nice things about it, even if it’s not true constituting ‘misleading advertisement’.</li><li>The fine can go as high as ₹10 lakh. </li><li>A Buzzoka survey finds that it’s not the brands of the influencers at fault, but influencer agencies who don’t wish for influencers to reveal whether or not they’re being paid. </li></ul>It’s not uncommon to see social media ‘influencers’ flaunt their latest purchases or talk about their favourite brands, online. In fact, it’s an integral part of being an influencer — mostly because fans believe the feedback is honest. <br /><br />If it’s not, followers are fully within their rights to sue the influencer under the Consumer Protection Act 2019. Fines for misleading advertising can go up to ₹10 lakh for the first offence. Repeat offenders can be charged up to ₹50 lakh. <br /><br />The reality is that a lot of influencers out there are raking in the big bucks, but they’re not necessarily disclosing that they were paid to endorse a particular product. Not telling a person that an ad is an ad isn’t technically wrong if you actually and genuinely believe in a product. The Nepal government has given its go-ahead to the proposal. The Nepalese Cabinet approved a draft agreement to allow the company to build the power plant, which would have a capacity of 900 megawatt.<br />
<br />
“This agreement would open the door for more foreign investment to enter Nepal to develop hydro power projects,” Govinda Pokhrel of Nepal’s Planning Commission said.<br />
<br />
It will take five years for the company to build the plant, and make it operational, including constructing the transmission lines. It will operate the plant for 25 years, and hand it over to Nepal at the end of the term.<br />

Priyanka Chopra was no different. She admitted on the show that she didn’t want to go to school in India because she’d have to wear uniforms.<br />

While telling Kimmel that her aunt lives in America, she also elaborated on the fact that her mother’s side of the family live there as well. Then she added the supreme truth about Indians- “We travel in packs.”<br />

<strong>4. </strong><strong>“I was supposed to be Mrs Tupac Shakur”</strong><br />
<br /> All of us are guilty of having celebrity crushes in school that we wouldn’t be proud of right now. The family behind the renowned Sri Venkateswara Surabhi theatre has been performing plays together every week for generations ever since its inception in 1885 in Surabhi, a village in the Kadapa District of Andhra Pradesh.<br /><br />Known for their colourful adaptations of Hindu mythology which transport you back in time, the family now faces an obstacle that paints a dark future for them. With the coronavirus lockdown, the family, which lives together and puts up shows every week, is now struggling to survive and is raising funds. <br /><br />An Instagram post, that was even shared by actor Rana Daggubati, says, “Members of the family have lost their job and are going through the worst phase of their lives. The group consists of many kids and older people who are deprived of basic necessities due to this lockdown going on in India. Their first show <em>Keechaka Vadha </em>involved puppets and live drama. The show was a big success and there has been no turning back since then. <br /><br />The group is also credited to have been the first to bring women on stage. “Since the Surabhi is a family system, women were motivated to perform the women's roles on their own. It also popularised gramophone records, contributed actors to the film industry, and took theatre beyond the geographical boundaries of Andhra Pradesh,” says the group’s official website.<br /><br />They were also the first to tick off the ticketing system for plays. <br /><br />Ever since then, the troop is known for its recreation of Hindu mythology with brilliant light and sound techniques, elaborate yet meticulous make-up, and larger than life costumes and backdrops.
