Given the reputation of IIMs in India, and how it’s no cake walk to get into one of them, it’s a huge mystery as to what an IIM interview is like. What really goes on between a student and the interview panel within closed doors? How tough are the questions asked by interviewers? 
 
Here are two candidates Deeptam Tudu Saha and Nishant Shah, now proud <a href="http://insideiim.com/branded-for-life-how-i-became-a-wimwian-2/">students of IIM Ahmedabad</a>, narrating their nerve-wracking moments of <a href="http://insideiim.com/my-interview-experience-at-iim-ahmedabad-deeptam-tudu-sahas-story/">the interview</a> in pure honesty, and it’s a treat to read their encounters: 
 
First up is Deeptam’s interesting Q/A session: 
 
Panelist: Did you talk to the previous candidate and get any information about how the panelists are? 
Me: No sir 
(Totally shocked. Didn’t expect such an ice-breaker. I was expecting the traditionally question – Tell me something about yourself?) 
 
Panelist: (Smiles and looks at each other) So, you have work-experience? 
Me: I explained to them my work and what I did over there, my responsibilities and all other details. 
 
Panelist: So tell me how would you differentiate between a Stainless steel used in the industry and that of the stainless steel used for utensils? 
Me: I explained their chemical composition and tried to impress them through my mechanical fundas. 
 
Panelist: Explain it to me in layman language. 
Me: I explained - Pure Stainless steel used in industry has a dull silver look whereas the ones used at homes have a shiny look. 
After this, the panelist asked some more questions regarding my work. 
 
Panelist: (Checking my application) Do you always write everything in short form? 
(Shows me my application and points out my college and school name which I had written in short form) 
Me: Sir, due to lack of space I had to write them in short, but to be frank my frank my friends call me DTS at time (Deeptam Tudu Saha) 
 
Panelist: (smiles and check my application) So, you are interested in robotics. 
Me: Explained to them my interests and accomplishments. 
 
Panelist: Can you build a robot that can take an interview instead of you? 
Me: (That was way above what I had ever done. Thought for a while and answered) Yes, I can but the interview would not exactly be given by the robot 
 
Panelist: How? 
Me: I will make a robot that will make the movements and attach a wireless communication system to it. The robot will make the gestures, and I would be communicating through the wireless system. 
 
(They are all smiles) 
 
Panelist: So, do you know any important person with title ‘Saha.’ 
Me: (I tried to remember any important Saha, and none of the names were coming to my mind. Niprendra Nath Saha 
 
Panelist: Who is he? (Looking at each other) 
Me: We have a school in his name in our locality. 
 
Panelist: So? 
Me: Since he has a school in his name, he must be famous. 
(I totally regretted that what I had said. Both the Panelist laughed and looked at each other) 
 
Me: I am sorry, I could not actually remember a name. 
Panelist: Thank you and points towards a bowl of toffees and ask me to take any. 
Me: Thank you. 
 
On the Day of the declaration of the result, I checked the site, and yes I had become a WIMWIAN - Well Known Institute of Management in Western India! 
 
It’s interesting that Deeptam later met the professors who took his interview. One of them had taught him and so he asked what they actually look in an interviewee. The professor replied – “We easily understand who is a fit for this place once they open their mouth. We just check how they handle the situation while they answer questions which are impossible, even though we know there is no solution for that question.” 
 
LESSON: Not every question asked would have an absolute answer. It may be to test your psyche, confidence and the maturity to handle a situation. 
 
Next up- Nishant’s story is no less interesting. Read on: 
 
He recalls the date - 31st January, 2016: I reached the place an hour before the reporting time. Some nervous and random conversations followed and we were all asked to reach a document verification room. Panel 4 - This panel was going to decide my fate. Whether I could walk through those illustrious corridors and sit on those couches where Raghuram Rajan and Harsha Bhogle would have once sat to contemplate their career options (I was thinking). I was second in my panel. I took my rightful place, wondering why the hell the first in the list hadn’t shown up yet. 
 
(A lady comes in and asks those to be screened by Panel 4 to get ready for the Written Test). 
 
The first in the list had to go for the interview straightaway after that. Since the first didn’t show up, I was up next. It took me some time to realize this and when I did, I hurried into get my documents ready. With the lady continuously staring me, I fumbled and couldn’t find my application document for painfully long 20 seconds. And finally when I was ready, that look on her face made my heart cringe. My first impression was clearly pathetic. I just kept calming myself that she wouldn’t be the one taking the interview and I would get away with my carelessness. 
 
My written test began and I was asked: Should Airports in India be named after cities or after the famous personalities - This wasn’t a sort of topic you can’t write a thing about. I had an idea of things that were happening surrounding the issue. Could come up with one example and few logical reasons as to why Airports should be named after cities. However, as I look back, it wasn’t a coherent piece of writing. The conclusion would have seemed abrupt and not a natural extension of all that was written before that. But, I was happy that I could take my stand backed by some arguments. 
 
After this, I stood there outside the room waiting for panelists to come back and call me in for the interview. I could see the professor under whom I did an internship at IIMA standing with one of my panelists. How desperately I wished he replaced that lady who I had given a not-so-pleasant first impression. But, alas, life is not so kind. I saw he went into Panel-2. I had some task at my hand now. To undo that bad first impression was my top priority. 
 
And so the Personal interview began: 
 
Two panelists including the lady had my application form in front of them, which had my Academic history (Xth, XIIth and Undergrad). 
 
Lady: So, Nishant, tell me about yourself. Focus more on what you did in Engineering. 
Me: (I need to somehow include my hobbies here, or I wouldn’t get a chance afterwards) After a rehearsed introduction where I talk about my family background and accomplishments, I talked about the final year project, Technical internships and introduced my hobby of analysing cricket and reading literature. 
 
Lady (More interested in Technical things): Explain your final year project in detail, Nishant. 
Me: Ma’am, it is a system designed to replace the compressor in the refrigeration cycle. We are working on a Jet ejector system which currently has a low COP and we would try to optimise the design parameters so as to increase the COP to an acceptable level. 
 
Lady: You are not coming clear. Use this sheet of paper and explain again. 
(This is where I screwed up. I take a pen and the paper and start writing content in bullet points. Lady stops me in between) 
 
Lady: If you plan to explain things by writing only, then better speak them out. 
(And I realized. The whole purpose of offering me the paper was to have me draw a diagram or something and make it easier for them to understand the flow of process. By that time, the paper was already out of my reach. I decided to explain things in the simplest way possible. Luckily, it went well) 
 
Lady: You did an internship at ONGC. What all did you learn there? 
Me: During the course of those 6 weeks, I got an opportunity to see the various machines like the Lathe, Shaper, Planner, actually being operated on large scale processes. I learned the internal parts of a diesel engine and how things are different theoretically and practically. I had an opportunity to visit an oil rig and (Explained them what I had seen there and a bit about the exploration process) 
 
Lady: Okay. What is the difference between a diesel engine and a petrol engine? 
(Trust me; this is the simplest technical question for any Mechanical Engineer and I Answered more than satisfactorily) 
 
5 minutes over. Now, the male professor decides to get involved. Looks stern. Someone who would catch you if you talk shit 
 
Prof: You talked about analyzing cricket. Analyse Dhoni’s captaincy in India’s 4-1 loss to Australia. 
Me: Talked about three things primarily which are 1. Team combination 2. Bowling changes and 3. Field Placements. How the ill combination of all three resulted into India’s drubbing. 
(There was some discussion on all three parameters and I guess I could make them believe that I was really passionate about the stated hobby) 
 
Prof: So, Nishant. You have taken part in some Mathematics Olympiad. You must be good with puzzles. Are you? 
Me: Sir, I was dealing with traditional mathematics during that Olympiad and I can be reasonably good with that. 
 
Prof: Yes, Traditional Mathematics. Mind if I ask you a question on Geometry? 
(Yes, sir. I do mind. But, do I have any option here!) 
Me: No, sir. You can ask me things on geometry. 
 
Prof: Alright. Prove that every triangle is an isosceles triangle. (Offers me the same dreaded sheet of paper) 
(I am completely flabbergasted; thinking what in the world is this?) 
Me: Tried different combinations on the paper and tried to manufacture a theory on the spot. (Professor stops me in between) 
Prof: I understand this is a difficult thing to prove. Just give some logic. 
Me: Of course, there needs to be some fallacy in the proof somewhere. I cannot think of any logical move right now. (Only good thing was I could maintain an honest countenance throughout. Smiled at times on my mistakes) 
 
Prof: Okay, leave that. Prove that Zero = one. 
(I had seen the solution before somewhere and luckily I could recollect that. I proved the equation pretty quickly and highlighted the mathematically incorrect step in the process) 
 
Me: Sir, if you can give me a hint, I would like to go back to the previous question and give it another go. 
Prof: Al right, I would give you one. (Introduced some technical terms and told me to find the proof using them) 
 
[I have studied in Gujarati Medium till 12th and couldn’t place the technical terms in my mind. I really thought I would find a logic somewhere if I could get those words translated in Hindi, if not in Gujarati. I Told the professor about my study background and requested him to translate the terms. The funny part is, the professor turned out to be a Gujarati and translated the terms. The horrible part is, I could still not find the proof and was some light-years away from finding a concrete logic) 
 
Lady: It’s alright, Nishant. You can let it go. 
(10 minutes over) 
 
Prof: Tell me one thing that is going wrong with the Indian Economy. 
(The professor taught Economics, which I later found out.) 
Me: Plenty of things…(Interrupted by the professor) 
Prof: No, I want to know only one thing. 
Me: It has to be the lack of Private investment. 
(Raghuram Rajan was asked the same question in an interview a week before and he said loopholes in ‘implementation’. I saw that interview. How could I forget that?) 
Prof: Elaborate. 
Me: Talked about the four wheels of any Economy: 1. Domestic Consumption 2. Government spending 3. Private Investment and 4. Exports. Explained how domestic consumption and government spending were going all right and exports were down by the virtue of global Economic slowdown. Though we could do better in terms of exports, the primary concern was lack of private investment. Stated various reasons why that was happening (Stalled projects, Unwillingness of banks to pass on rate cuts, etc.). 
(While I was explaining, I still can’t remember when I used the word ‘Self-sufficient’. It proved fatal) 
 
Prof: What is the difference between Self-sufficient and Self- reliable? 
Me: Tried giving a crude sense of words, but I don’t think the professor looked convinced. 
(Lady and Professor look at each other and mutually decide to relieve me from the agony and let me go) 
 
Lady: Okay, Nishant. We’re done. Have a nice day ahead. Thank you. 
 
Me: (After a cursory look at the bowl of toffees): Thank you very much Sir, Ma’am. It was pleasure meeting you. 
 
Nishant later found out while in his classroom that the results were out. And well, the lad had of course made it to the institute 
 
LESSON: Everyone makes mistakes. You can feel nervous, you can make blunders. A stammering will not leave you out of the race, but lack of reason, logic and confidence in your answers may get you out of it.

Twisted questions to expect in IIM-Ahmedabad interviews: First Hand Account

<img class="gwt-Image" src="/photo/55830067.cms" />With 21 offers, Amazon emerged as the top recruiter for the summer placement process for the Class of 2018 of the Post Graduate Programme in Management at <keyword id="19483" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="IIM-ahmedabad">IIM Ahmedabad</keyword> that was completed within three clusters. 
 
As many as 130 students made dream applications to firms of their choice. They were seen being placed across 17 sectors and functions of their choice by the end of the placement process.

Apart from Amazon, other top recruiters were - Accenture Strategy which made 16 offers, the highest among Management Consulting firms; Bank of America Merrill Lynch made 6 offers, highest among global banks. American Express and FinIQ were the joint top recruiters in the BFSI cohort having made 6 offers each. 
 <keyword id="6365619" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hindustan-UniLever">Hindustan Unilever</keyword> recruited 10 students and was the highest recruiter in the Consumer Goods cohort while <keyword id="6359480" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Aditya-Birla">Aditya Birla</keyword> Group and Tata Administrative Service were the joint top recruiters in the General Management cohort with 10 offers each. 
 <keyword id="10387" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Microsoft">Microsoft</keyword> was the top recruiter in the consumer Tech cohort with 7 offers. Vedanta, a new recruiter in the core manufacturing and infra cohort made 6 offers. 
 
Interestingly, firms were grouped into cohorts based on the profile offered, and groups of cohorts were invited to campus across different clusters. 
 
As in previous years, students were provided with the flexibility of making “dream” applications to firms of their choice in a subsequent cluster even with an offer in hand. This gave students the flexibility and choice to build careers in sectors of their preference. This year, the students also had the opportunity to work under the mentorship of Centre for Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship on their entrepreneurial ideas. 5 students opted out of the placement process to work on their own ventures. 
 
Here’s a cluster-wise break up of recruitment: 
 
Cluster 1: Accenture Top Recruiter 
 Making 17 offers, Accenture Strategy emerged as the top recruiter during the Cluster 1 of the summer internship placements that began on November 5. More than 40 firms participated. Some of the other prominent recruiters included Bain &amp; Co., Bank of America Merrill Lynch, <keyword id="6386585" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Barclays">Barclays</keyword>, Citibank, McKinsey &amp; Co., <keyword id="48670" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Morgan-Stanley">Morgan Stanley</keyword>, Strategy&amp;, The Boston Consulting Group etc. 
 
Cluster 2: Amazon Top Recruiter 
E-commerce major Amazon emerged as the top recruiter in cluster two of the summer internship placement process that took place on November 8, by giving 25 offers across its six roles. Cluster 2 comprised of five cohorts: Consumer Goods, Consumer Services, General Management and Leadership, Retail B2B &amp; B2C and Pharma &amp; healthcare. The recruiters in the General Management cohort included Conglomerates such as Aditya Birla Group, Mahindra and Tata Administrative Services (TAS) which offered leadership roles to students. The recruiters in the Consumer Goods and Services Cohort included Coke, General Mills, Hindustan Unilever, ITC, Marico, Mondelez, Procter &amp; Gamble and others. Retail B2B &amp; B2C firms like Amazon and Zilingo recruited students for business development, product management, operations, marketing and sales strategy &amp; growth roles. 
 
Cluster 3: Microsoft 
The third cluster held on November 11 saw Microsoft as the largest recruiter with 7 offers. This cluster comprised six cohorts: Analytics, Banking and Financial Services, Consumer Tech, IT Consulting, Infra and Core Manufacturing and Government and Social Services.

The Top Recruiters at IIM Ahmedabad and all that unfolded in the campus as Summer Placements finally come to an end

In India, there are 20 IIMs at present. In all of these institutions, the selection process consists of three stages. However, each of these IIMs follow an independent admission process. A good performance in the CAT examination is mandatory for admission to any IIM. However, the other factors considered for admission include academics, diversified interests, work experience and GD-PI-WAT performance of the candidate also play a decisive role in the admission. Here is an overview of the three stages of the admission process in IIM. Stage-1: CAT Performance Performing well in the CAT examination is the primary requisite to qualify for the IIM selection process. The candidate’s percentile score in the CAT examination will decide if he or she can hope to get into IIM at all. A high score in CAT examination is the first step of the selection process. The minimum requirement prescribed for admission to different IIMs range between 70 to 85 sectional percentile and 80 to 95 overall percentile. For example, IIM Ahmedabad needs 70 sectional and 80 overall percentile for admission while some new IIMs require 75 to 85 sectional percentile and 90 overall percentile. Thus the sectional and overall percentile requirement differs between different IIMs. Stage-2: IIM Shortlisting process Once the candidate has obtained the percentile score specified by the given IIM, the shortlisting process starts. Each of the IIMs has its own policy regarding the shortlisting in the second stage of admission process. The aspects considered for shortlisting include the CAT examination score, academics, diversity, and work experience besides some others. Stage-3: Final selection process The final selection process at the IIMs comprise of personal interview, an ability test (written) and Group Discussion (in some IIMs). Those candidates shortlisted are invited to attend the PI round in number of cities depending on the choice given by the candidate while applying for admission to the IIM during the CAT exam registration process. The PI-WAT round is given a higher weightage than the CAT score by the IIMs. The final selection of the candidate will also depend on the academic performance and diversity of the candidate. IIM Shillong and IIM Kozhikode conduct GD round on the basis of WAT. Each of the IIMs have their own independent policy of preparing the merit list considering the candidate’s performance in the final selection round, CAT scores, academic profile, diversity, work experience and gender diversity. Common Admission Process (CAP) in the new IIMs Around 10 IIMs in the country including IIM Kashipur, Raipur, Ranchi, Rohtak, Trichy, Udaipur, Bodh Gaya, Jammu, Sambalpur, and Sirmaur adopt a common admission process. This common admission process is coordinated by IIM Ranchi. The two components of the CAP coordinated by the IIM Ranchi consist of WAT and PI. All the IIMs participating in the CAP will not conduct their own independent final admission round. Instead, they will take into account the scores of the candidates in the CAP along with the performance in other individual admission components to make the final admission offer.

What is the process of Admission in IIM (Indian Institutes of Management)

21-year-old <keyword id="4403629" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Prachi-Sukhwani">Prachi Sukhwani</keyword> has recently made her way to <keyword id="19483" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="IIM-ahmedabad">IIM Ahmedabad</keyword>, thanks to her never-say-die attitude. She suffers from macular dystrophy and lost 80 per cent vision. It's a rare, genetic eye disorder that causes loss of vision. But, it did not deter this <keyword id="6356026" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="BBA">BBA</keyword> student to achieve her dream of studying in IIM-Ahmedabad. She scored 98.55 percentile in CAT 2016 while appearing under the category of person with a disability. "My short term goal is to join a company, preferably a multinational. Once I get some experience, I will have my own start-up. But my long term goal is to open an NGO for the blind", she says. The news that she had cracked IIM-A came to her on Monday when she was appearing for her last semester BBA exam. On her daughter's achievement, <keyword id="18473" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Prachi">Prachi</keyword>'s father who is a businessman said, "She got calls from all the top three IIMs, IIM-Ahmedabad, IIM-Bangalore and IIM-Kolkata, and appeared for the interviews". Swelling with pride, professor <keyword id="224631" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sharad-Bansal">Sharad Bansal</keyword>, dean of Faculty of Commerce at Prachi's college said, "I have been associated with the BBA programme since its inception in 1993. But this is one of the proudest moments. Prachi deserves special applause for her success despite all odds. Her success is an inspiration for everybody".

Meet Prachi Sukhwani, a 23-year-old with 80 per cent vision loss who has just made it to India's Top B-school

New Delhi, Apr 24 () The central government has sought interns from the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and other knowledge partners to help its empowered groups of officers responding to the COVID-19 pandemic.In a communique, the personnel ministry asked these institutes to provide MBA interns to support the empowered groups in data analysis and evidence-based policy inputs.The government of India has constituted 11 empowered groups for ensuring a comprehensive and integrated response to the coronavirus pandemic."It has been decided with the approval of the competent authority that interns may be provided for a period of eight weeks from the date of joining to the said empowered groups," the communique said.The interns proposed by the IIMs and knowledge partners will be interviewed (remotely) and selected on the basis of their bio-data and experience, and interviews, it said.The empowered groups will assign tasks and get outputs as required by the group from the interns, who will be working remotely on the work assigned to them, communique said.The satisfactory completion of the internship shall be confirmed by the relevant empowered group or department concerned to which the interns are attached, the ministry said.On receiving confirmation from the empowered groups, the interns will be issued certificates by the secretary of the department of personnel and training, it added."No stipend will be paid to the interns during their assignments," the ministry said.The request seeking interns has been sent to the 20 IIMs, including those in Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Lucknow, Indore, Kozhikode, Shillong, Ranchi, Raipur and Bodh Gaya.Besides, knowledge partners including the Indian School of Business in Hyderabad and Mohali, the Management Development Institute in Gurgaon, The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) in Delhi, the APJ Abdul Kalam Foundation in Rameswaram and the Indian Institute of Public Administration in Delhi, have also been asked to propose the names of interns. Govt seeks interns from IIMs to help it in COVID-19-related work

<img class="gwt-Image" src="/photo/49241662.cms" />Companies and startups are ready to raid engineering and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=B-school+">B-school</a> campuses across India this placement season, adding to the fierce war for talent already raging between large e-Commerce companies and established old-world recruiters. 
 
The startups which are looking for fresh talents include ShopClues, LocalOye, Urban-Clap, PropTiger, Indus Insights, MyRefers, CodeNation, Embibe, Jombay, Lybrate and ShadowFax. 
 
Moreover, a survey of 11 startups suggests they will step up overall <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=campus+hiring+">campus hiring</a> to 770 students from the Class of 2016 compared with only 250 that they hired from the last batch. 
 
Bulk of this hiring will be across top engineering colleges and B-schools, including Indian Institutes of Technology, National Institutes of Technology and Indian Institutes of Management. 
 
Don’t be disappointed if you are not studying in the above mentioned institutes as a handful will also recruit at leading undergraduate colleges including Shri Ram College of Commerce, Lady Shri Ram College and St Stephen's, and design schools such as National Institute of Design and National Institute of Fashion Technology. 
 
Now comes the most interesting part- salary! Average salaries offered by these startups range between Rs 12 lakh and Rs 18 lakh at engineering colleges and B-schools, say campus sources. Prop-Tiger, for instance, is paying upwards of Rs 15 lakh plus benefits at tech schools; CodeNation will pay around Rs 24 lakh. 
 
At least three of these startups — Lybrate, LocalOye and ShadowFax — are first-timers on campus while others, at the very least, are doubling last year's numbers. In some cases, hiring targets are going up five-fold or even 16-fold compared with last year. 
 
The strategies behind the hiring are discussed below: 
1. Depending on the kind of institutes, students are being hired for a variety of roles: from <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=software+development+engineers">software development engineers</a>; core management &amp; data scientists; product, operations and marketing; merchant acquisition and servicing, to human resource management, product and graphic designers and even entrepreneurs in residence. Sanjay Mehta, a Mumbai-based angel investor who participated in and led 11 angel deals in 2015, says the reason why startups are so gung-ho about <keyword id="511161" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="campus-hiring">campus hiring</keyword> is because they want to put this talent to work on cutting-edge technology and new delivery models. Not surprisingly, several institutes where placements have started, including Birla Institute of Technology &amp; Science-Pilani and <keyword id="75110" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="NITs">NITs</keyword>, are seeing these startups go head-to-head with <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=traditional+recruiters+">traditional recruiters</a> to hire talent. At other B-schools and <keyword id="49737" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="IITs">IITs</keyword> where pre-placement offers (PPOs) have started flowing in, it is again the startups that are leading the pack. 
 
2. Much high in numbers: The numbers speak for themselves. If ShopClues is revising its hiring intake from around 100 last year to 180-250 this time, realty portal PropTiger is doubling its target to 50. Even five-month-old B2B (business-to-business) hyperlocal delivery startup ShadowFax, which raised $300,000 from <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Snapdeal">Snapdeal</a>'s founders and others in August followed by a $8.5-million Series A round by Fidelity's proprietary investment arm Eight Roads Ventures barely a month later, is looking to hire from IITs, <keyword id="46923" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="IIMs">IIMs</keyword> and other leading management institutes for its technology, data science and operations teams. 
 
3. Tapping more institutes: In the process, these companies are reaching out to many more institutes this year. "If there is a campus that attracts bright minds of the country, we want to be there. The Big Data firm made 40 offers last year, mostly at the top IITs (Bombay, Delhi, Madras). This year, it plans to make 100-plus, including at NITs (Trichy, Warangal, etc), SRCC, LSR, Christ College and Indian School of Business. 
 Similarly, Delhi-based mobile services marketplace UrbanClap, which hired 30 business development and operations specialists from <keyword id="6360099" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Delhi-University">Delhi University</keyword> last year, is extending its reach to several new institutes, including <keyword id="6431668" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="IIT-Delhi">IIT-Delhi</keyword> and IIM-Ahmedabad as it gears up to take on 80-100 this year. 
 
Salaries apart, the other drawing factors include the opportunity to work on challenging problems. "We don't have any glass ceilings. Freshers could be running entire teams within six months of joining," says Aditi Avasthi, founder and CEO, Embibe. "Students are opting for startups aggressively as some of the roles offered by them are quite challenging and inclined with their aspirations," sums up Rahul Katyal, placement manager at IIT-Bombay.

Gear up to face interviews! Engineering and business schools to witness over three-fold jump in recruitments in India

<img class="gwt-Image" src="/photo/53975357.cms" /> <keyword id="53914" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Indian-Institutes-of-Management">Indian Institutes of Management</keyword> are changing the way they admit their students, and would stress more on personal interviews than their scores in Common Admission Test (CAT), so that they can increase their number of non-engineer students. 
 As of now, engineers account for 90-95% of MBA students in these institutes, but old <keyword id="46923" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="IIMs">IIMs</keyword> including those in Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Bengaluru and Kozhikode want to steer away from this trend. 
 "One of the goals is to increase the diversity in the classroom without compromising on the quality of the students. Past data suggest that this goal is best served by giving relatively more weightage to personal interviews," an <keyword id="42512" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="IIM-A">IIM-A</keyword> spokesperson told <a href="http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/services/education/iims-cut-cat-score-weightage-to-attract-more-non-engineers/articleshow/53971814.cms">ET </a>in an emailed response. Earlier, the weightage given to personal interviews was 40%, which now has gone up to 50%. 
 
"CAT is a quant-based examination biased towards people from engineering background. We want more candidates from non-engineering background and are gradually making the changes necessary in the admission process to have more diversity," said Preetam Basu, chairperson admissions at IIM Calcutta.

Enough B. Tech-MBAs in the country? IIMs now want non-engineering students

As per reports, this year the number of applicants rose to 2, 32,434 compared to last year's 2,18,664, as per the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore. The exam was conducted in 138 cities across the country and the duration of the exam was of three hours. IIM Bangalore was the convener of CAT 2016. 
 The CAT entrance test, thought to be one of the toughest exam, is a gateway to admissions in <keyword id="125199" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Institute-of-Managements">Indian Institute of Managements</keyword> and other Business schools in the country. So, for qualifying students eyeing admissions to the Top B-schools in India, here's everything about application that you may want to know: 
 
Admission procedure: 
These are the 20 IIMs which are operational right now - IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Amritsar, IIM Bangalore, IIM Bodh Gaya, IIM Calcutta, IIM Indore, IIM Jammu, IIM Kashipur, IIM Kozhikode, IIM Lucknow, IIM Nagpur, IIM Raipur, IIM Ranchi, IIM Rohtak, IIM Sambalpur, IIM Shillong, IIM Sirmaur, IIM Tiruchirappalli, IIM Udaipur and IIM Visakhapatnam. Amongst them, IIM Calcutta is the oldest one and IIM Jammu is the youngest one. 
 
All the candidates who successfully cleared the selection process will make their way to these 20 different IIM institutes on the basis of Written Ability Test, Group Discussion followed by Personal Interviews round. However, not every IIM follows the same procedure, it also varies from institute to institute. IIMs may additionally use other factors like previous academic performance of the candidates, relevant work experience and other similar inputs in short listing and ranking of candidates at various stages of the admission process. It is best for candidates to refer to the admission policies of IIMs from their respective websites.

The candidates in the Final Year of Graduation have to show an original certificate from the Principal/Registrar/Director of the university/institution certifying that the candidate has obtained 50% marks or equivalent (45% in case of the candidates belonging to SC, ST, and PWD category) based on latest available grades/marks.

Just in case you needed more proofs, the Indian Institute of Management, <keyword id="6372577" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Calcutta">Calcutta</keyword> (IIM-C) has registered a two-fold rise over last year in the number of women admitted for the 2017-19 batch. With women accounting for 31% of the new students, this batch boasts of the highest female representation at IIM-C to date. Officials say this is also the strongest girl squad among the top three IIMs - Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Calcutta - in recent memor, according to a Times of India report. "The girls performed incredibly well in the interview and got through on their own steam," IIM-C admission chairperson Pritam <keyword id="19074" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="basu">Basu</keyword> told TOI. The only push that they got, Basu added, was at the pre-interview stage, where women were marked up "a little" after the CAT scores. Previous years saw women getting three extra points (out of 100) at the pre-interview stage. "This year girls were given two extra marks out of a total 50 marks (or 4%). This mark-up was part of a deliberate policy change to bring more gender diversity on the campus," Basu told TOI.
